able to express yourself.– How many words do you know?– How mane words in a phrase do you
use?– How do you use your words in a
phrase?

sounds of the words you say:– Can you say the sounds correctly?– Can people understand what you
say?
The 3rd year – Los 3 anos
• Language/ Lenguaje– Use phrases with 3-4 words– Talks about action of others– Answers simple questions appropriately– Asks lots of questions– Joins in social language– Uses between 500 to 1,00 words– Comments about objects around them– Uses plurals and present continuous markings– Frequently practices talking to themselves

• Language/ Lenguaje– Points to colors red, blue, yellow, and green– Identifies geometrical forms– Follows commands– Asks lots of questions and compares to
their own thoughts– Asks why and who questions– Uses past tense correctly– Uses prepositions “ in, on, under”

The 5th year• Language/ Lenguaje
– Define objects and know their functions– Know where they live– Use phrases of 5 to 7 words– Have a vocabulary of about 1,500 words– Tell familiar stories– Name about 8 colors

– They use all sounds correctly with the exceptions of the Spanish / R/ or possibly the English /th/

• Extend her conversation. If your child says something with 2 words you extend it and make it a 3 word phrase
• Use the words that your child has trouble with in your own speech
• Encourage your child to tell stories from books• Read for your child• Give your child plenty of time to respond• Ask your child about her day
3 year olds

• Help your child classify objects and things- maybe you can do it as you ride home. “ think about as many ______” as you can.
• Talk to your child as you would with any person
• Let your child make up stories for you• Give your child more responsibility• Try to not expect perfection! They are just
learning it.
4 year olds

• Listen to your child when he or she talks to you
• Encourage your child to express his/her feelings using words
• Continue to read stories• Read signs to your child as you drive
around• Remember that your child will
understand much more than she or he is able to say.
5 year olds
What to do if you think your child has a
problem?• Talk to the teacher! Express your
concerns so that teachers can pay closer attention to their speech and language.
• Your child may be referred to a speech and language evaluation to determine the need for services
• If you child indeed has a Speech or a language disorders he or she will receive services in the school.
