Special Needs Mom's
You may think us “special moms” have it pretty rough. We have no choice. We just manage life when things get really tough. We've made it through the days we thought we'd never make it through. We've even impressed our own selves with all that we can do!
We've gained patience beyond measure, love we never dreamed of giving. We worry about the future but know this “special” life's worth living! We have bad days and hurt sometimes, but we hold our heads up high. We feel joy and pride and thankfulness more often than we cry.
For our kids, we aren't just SUPERMOMS, No, we do so much more :) We are cheerleaders, nurses, and therapists who don't walk out the door. We handle rude remarks and unkind stares, with dignity and grace. Even though the pain they bring cannot be erased.
Therapies and treatment routes are a lot for us to digest, We don't know what the future holds, but give our kids our best. None of us can be replaced, so we don't get many breaks. It wears us out, but to help our kids, we'll do whatever it takes!
We are selfless, not by choice you see. Our kids just have many needs. We're not out to change the world, but want to plant some seeds. We want our kids accepted. That really is our aim. When we look at them, we just see kids. We hope you'll do the same.

Does your child have outgrown shoes, afo’s, braces, etc and they are sitting just
taking up space, then please email Heather at [email protected], or you can take them to Madonna, in Lincoln, to the Hangar Orthotics office, and Jamie
is the person they go to. The used equipment will be collected and distributed overseas via a local orthopedic
specialist who travels and fits children with this special equipment that is not

Easter Seals Nebraska offers the experience of a lifetime! We are a residential camping program serving

Camp Abilities Nebraska is a residential sports camp for youth ages 9-‐19 who are blind, visually impaired or deaf-‐blind. Applicants with experience in the areas of Adaptive Physical Education and Special Education, or other relevant disciplines, are needed; staff orientation is July 15 & 16.
Please apply as soon as possible, preferably by March 15. A $150 stipend is offered for the week of Camp.

First Free Church welcomes kids of any age with special needs. We provide Buddies for children who need more support in the Sunday School Classroom as well as Canopy Room for kids, PreK to 5th grade, who need less sensory stimulation.
We provide programming for children in both hours of our services. Hand in Hand is a Sunday School Class that meets for
adults with intellectual disabilities.
We also offer a free respite program for parents, called Masterpiece Respite R&R, that is offered quarterly. Look under Lincoln Events for the next respite night.

What We Believe!
These churches all believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, who was
sent to humanity to be the sacrificial lamb for all our wrongdoings, allowing for us to spend eternity
with Him in Heaven.
The only thing that we as sinful humans need to do in order to be saved and spend eternity in Heaven, is You just have to accept the FREE Gift of Salvation, from Christ Jesus. Repent of your sins, Acknowledge that
Jesus Christ died on the cross for your sins. He died to save YOU!
That’s all you need to do, & each of these churches can help you with any questions you may have about
Salvation & the Gift of it through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Kids City Friends is a NEW Ministry at Westside Church for children who have special needs. We have 2 ways of meeting children’s needs, 1) by having a friend system where an adult is
with the child in the Sunday School Class, or 2) we have a classroom set up just for those kiddos who need a one-on-one
experience and less stimulation. Kid City Friends meets at 9:30 am during our service on Sundays. This allows parents to attend worship service or become involved in a Life Group. Kid City
Friends meets in room 221. You will start at the children’s kiosks, located on the west side of the church. You will check in, and
then one of the volunteers will bring you up to our room. **Westside does have an elevator.
Westside also offers accommodations for children with special needs during their VBS week, including a class for those children
who need less stimulation.

You may think us “special moms” have it pretty rough. We have no choice. We just manage life when things get really tough. We've made it through the days we thought we'd never make it through. We've even impressed our own selves with all that we can do!
We've gained patience beyond measure, love we never dreamed of giving. We worry about the future but know this “special” life's worth living! We have bad days and hurt sometimes, but we hold our heads up high. We feel joy and pride and thankfulness more often than we cry.
For our kids, we aren't just SUPERMOMS, No, we do so much more :) We are cheerleaders, nurses, and therapists who don't walk out the door. We handle rude remarks and unkind stares, with dignity and grace. Even though the pain they bring cannot be erased.
Therapies and treatment routes are a lot for us to digest, We don't know what the future holds, but give our kids our best. None of us can be replaced, so we don't get many breaks. It wears us out, but to help our kids, we'll do whatever it takes!

v Respite Care Available for Air Force Families * FREE to them * U.S. Air Force (USAF) Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) families stationed throughout the country have children who require unique child care considerations due to the child’s special needs. Finding & paying for quality child care for children with special needs can also present significant challenges for military families. The U.S. Air Force EFMP program has established a quality respite program for families with children having special needs & who are enrolled in the USAF EFMP. USAF EFMP Respite Care is specifically designed for Air Force families who have children diagnosed with moderate or severe special needs under EFMP. This includes exceptional family member children whose medical conditions require assignment near major medical facilities in the continental United States, or whose needs are complex and require specialized community of care. What is included in the USAF EFMP Respite Care? Twelve (12) respite care hours per month regardless of condition severity. Your choice of an approved in-child’s home or licensed Family Child Care or Child Care Center. Approved providers are background screened and have the following pre-service training: CPR, First Aid, Medication Dispensation, & Child Abuse Recognition & Prevention as well as subject matter training in the care of children with special needs. What is this type of service called and what does it offer? What this service is not: Respite is not hospice care, nor does it have any affiliation with hospice or palliative care. Respite is not a day program or child care center. The Nebraska Respite Network
Do you know about the Lifespan Respite Subsidy Program? This program pays for respite services (someone to come into the home to care for a person with special needs, to give the primary caregiver a temporary break). The program serves people of all ages. It is for people who are NOT receiving the services from another government program.
Who Needs This Program? Caregivers who need a temporary break from providing care to persons of any age, with special needs. Examples of special needs are developmental & physical limitations, emotional or behavioral disorders, chronic illness. Alzheimer’s disease & related health concerns, or persons at risk of abuse & neglect. Eligibility is based on income guidelines. HOWEVER, if you have expenses directly related to the disability, these can usually be subtracted
from the counted income. The person applying must have a caregiver. The program will provide up to $125 per client per month!!
How do I become a Respite Provider? How do I get qualified for the Lifespan Respite Subsidy Program?
What if I need help finding a respite provider, so I as a Caregiver, can have a break?

Covenant Cedars Bible Camp near HORDVILLE
Operation Shine Camp is for kids ages 7 – 12 with autism or related conditions. The days will include arts/crafts, swimming, fishing, archery, crate stacking, sensory activities and more! Each Camper has at least one “1-‐on-‐1” Dream Big Camper, All Staff & Volunteers have received training in the specific disorders that will be present at camp, there is a nursing staff 24/7, there are 2 mental health therapists on-‐site 24/7, and all cabins have
handicap accessible full bathroom facilities.

PROJECT EXPLORE CAMP Provides special needs youth between 8 & 17 years of age, with a positive summer camp experience. Project Explore is specifically designed for children identified with a learning disability, attention deficit disorder,
or other high functioning disabilities such as Asperger’s syndrome, without primary emotional or behavioral problems.

Campers will be involved in small groups of up to 10 children led by 2 staff. Campers experience nature and participate in camp activities that emphasize the enhancement of self-‐esteem. Camper relationships help develop the realization of the unique abilities in each individual.
Camp Activities are all supervised by trained staff and presented in a way that is both safe and fun. Activities include: horseback riding, songs and skits, paddle boating, Jungleland, cookouts, nature, crafts, riflery, canoeing, swimming, campfires, picnics, archery, hiking and so much more!
Safety is a primary concern with every precaution taken to ensure the well-‐being of your child. All staff are trained in first aid procedures. A full-‐time, on-‐site health specialist treats minor ailments at the health lodge, and a doctor is on call 24 hours per day.

Special Needs Mom's
You may think us “special moms” have it pretty rough. We have no choice. We just manage life when things get really tough. We've made it through the days we thought we'd never make it through. We've even impressed our own selves with all that we can do!
We've gained patience beyond measure, love we never dreamed of giving. We worry about the future but know this “special” life's worth living! We have bad days and hurt sometimes, but we hold our heads up high. We feel joy and pride and thankfulness more often than we cry.
For our kids, we aren't just SUPERMOMS, No, we do so much more :) We are cheerleaders, nurses, and therapists who don't walk out the door. We handle rude remarks and unkind stares, with dignity and grace. Even though the pain they bring cannot be erased.
Therapies and treatment routes are a lot for us to digest, We don't know what the future holds, but give our kids our best. None of us can be replaced, so we don't get many breaks. It wears us out, but to help our kids, we'll do whatever it takes!
We are selfless, not by choice you see. Our kids just have many needs. We're not out to change the world, but want to plant some seeds. We want our kids accepted. That really is our aim. When we look at them, we just see kids. We hope you'll do the same.

Camp Quality is a summer camping experience and year-‐round support program for
children with cancer. Mandy difficult physical and emotional challenges face a child, and his or her family, when battling cancer. At our summer camps we have developed an important type of “therapy” . . . We like to call it Smile Therapy!! With a laugh in their
hearts and smiles on their faces, Camp Q Kids find themselves capable of more than they may have dreamed possible!! Camp Quality has built its reputation on personalized care. Every camper is paired with a companion who is dedicated completely to his or her care. Companions are the life-‐blood of Camp Q. They are fun to be with, adventuresome, great listeners, and are always sharing their love of life. Their primary responsibility is to make
sure their camper has the most enjoyable, safe, relaxing and restoring experience possible. This relationship creates a beautiful bond that continues long after camp is
over, and oftentimes for years to come.

Camp High Hopes offers a fun, safe, & adaptive recreational environment to waiver
& non-waiver campers with disabilities. Each day is designed to offer a fun, safe, & adaptive recreational environment for
people with disabilities, their friends, & families. Our high quality programs include experiences in archery, canoeing, & outdoor
education, amongst others, for individuals & groups with disabilities. Coming from Iowa, Nebraska, & South Dakota, campers arrive with anticipation & excitement,
leaving with smiles, new friends, & fond memories for years to come!
Free support for Children, teens & adults who have experienced the death of a family member or friend.
All family programs are offered FREE of charge, but families must register in advance to attend. Unless otherwise noted, all programs are for youth ages 3 – 18 accompanied by an adult caregiver.
Here are programs that we offer:
CARE: Coping Around Real-Life Experiences Support Group: CARE is a free grief support group for families coping with a serious illness or injury. Join us for an opportunity to share your grief, build healthy coping skills, & meet others who “get it”. This is for youth ages 3 – 18 & their adult caregivers dealing with a serious illness or injury. This is an open group that you may join at any time, & we encourage you to attend as many sessions as you can. Just be sure to register in advance so we know you are coming! Held the 2nd Saturday of every month, from 12:00 – 1:30 pm. See monthly information under Omaha Events. Monthly Support Groups: This group is open for families to attend at any time, and is a great way to get started with our programs. A light breakfast is provided. Children & adults then work with trained facilitators in separate age/developmental groups. See info in Omaha Events 8-Session Support Groups: Series are held throughout the year in which the same families attend for 8 sessions. Having the same people in your group provides comfort & security. Following a potluck meal, children & adults work with trained facilitators in separate age/developmental groups.
KidsKamp: Held in the spring, KidsKamp is an afternoon filled with crafts and activities to honor and remember special people who have died. Families work together with volunteers in this a fun, light-hearted camp. Tinsel & Tears: This afternoon camp helps grieving families as they prepare for the holidays. Families work together with volunteers to make special holiday memories and crafts to honor the lives of those who have died. Check out the upcoming events under these towns in OKN: Fremont, Omaha, Plattsmouth, Council Bluffs. If you are interested in being a volunteer at one of these events, call us at the number below.
YAG (Young Adult Group): This is a special group for 19 – 40 year olds who have experienced death, meeting on its own night separate from our family programs. This is an open group so that new members can join at any time. See monthly information in Omaha Events
AHA (Adults Helping Adults): An 8-session group for adult caregivers who have already attended our 8-session family support groups. This group provides an opportunity for further support and education focused specifically on the caregiver. No children’s program is provided.
Camp Hope: A Retreat for Grieving Teens: This weekend, overnight, camp is a special program for teens who have attended TEBH programs with their families. Campers enjoy hanging out with other teens and participating in a variety of activities such as horseback riding, drumming, hiking, photography, & a campfire. All food and drinks for the weekend are provided.

Staying informed and up to date on issues affecting the child welfare system are also important.
