1 Fundamentals of Merchant Ships, 14 March 2016 Speaker Profiles Capt. Robert Gordon, LLB, LLM, Master Mariner, Solicitor and MD of SeaProf Executive Education Capt. Gordon spent 20 years at sea as a deck officer, shipmaster and pilot before coming ashore to study maritime law at the University of Southampton. He then qualified as a Solicitor and practiced as a partner with admiralty lawyers, Thomas Cooper, in London. Capt. Gordon moved to Singapore in 1995. He founded SEAsia P&I Services, specialising in marine casualty investigation and P&I correspondent defence work, as well as creating a unique franchised network of 20 P&I correspondent offices throughout Asia. Capt. Gordon has provided lectures on marine insurance and maritime law on numerous maritime education and university level courses (including NTU’s MSc in Shipping) in Singapore) as well as at seminars and conferences in Europe and throughout Asia. He is also the joint creator, producer and moderator of Singapore’s now iconic “Key Elements of Shipping” course. Rupert Bray, Marine Services Director, Swire Pacific Offshore Rupert Bray has worked with the Swire Group for 20 years. He is currently Marine Services Director of Swire Pacific Offshore. Based in Singapore, Rupert oversees Swire Pacific Offshore’s marine services division. This includes the seismic, subsea, windfarm, salvage, emergency response and oilfield logistics business segments. Prior to joining Swire Pacific Offshore, Rupert served as Chief Operating Officer of UK based, Swire Oilfield Services. During this time, he was responsible for the acquisition of eight competitors and establishing new ventures in India and Brazil as well as field fracking development in Texas, USA. Prior to this, Rupert undertook numerous management roles for Swire Group’s Cathay Pacific Airways in Hong Kong, Phillipines, Indonesia and India. Rupert holds a BA (Honours) in Geography from Bristol University, UK as well as an MSc in Maritime Studies from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. Graeme N. Temple, Regional Director, Braemar Technical Services Graeme Temple is qualified as a Marine Engineer and holds a Class 1 Chief Engineer’s certificate. Before coming ashore to work as a marine surveyor and consultant, he spent twenty-five years at sea which included fifteen years as Chief Engineer. His seagoing experience extended to general cargo ships, container ships, LPG carriers, offshore supply and salvage vessels. Graeme now specialises in marine technical investigations and quantum issues. In this role, he has provided expert witness opinions and testimony for leading firms of Singapore and foreign solicitors on numerous occasions. Graeme is also a well known lecturer on maritime topics. His professional qualifications include Consultant membership of the IIMS and he is an Incorporated Marine Engineer, MIMarEST (I Eng).
