MIND, HEART AND WALLET: TRENDS IN SOCIALLY RESPONSIBLE INVESTING

Things have come a long way in “SRI” since its introduction in the 1960s. The evolution of SRI has seen an increase in investors who are not only seeking investment performance, but also are looking for impactful ways to align their values with their investments. Our presentation will explain ways to integrate envi-ronmental, social and governance (ESG) factors with financial analysis which can lead to an investment strategy that speaks to -- and for -- each investor.

Our presentation will explore the field of behavioral finance, how our brains work and the ways we make decisions. We will discuss some of the frequent behavioral pitfalls investors make and the effect they can have on investments. Most capital market theories are based on fundamental and economic factors, ignoring the impact of perceptions of the human participants. Our hope is that by being cognizant of our common mistakes we can avoid falling prey to them.

THE INTERSECTION OF POLITICS AND INVESTING

The seemingly endless news cycle has created an ever-growing fog of political noise for investors to navigate. Within this cacophony, however, there are social and political trends that appear to be growing in terms of market relevance. Our presentation will explore the increased political polarization in the U.S., the resurgence of populist policy platforms on both sides of the political spectrum, the debate over our healthcare system, growing federal budget deficits, corporate governance reform, environmental policy reform, calls for technology sector regulation and a nascent reexamination of traditional monetary policy.

MANAGING FIXED INCOME INVESTMENTS IN A RISING INTEREST RATE ENVIRONMENT

This presentation will focus on the many risks fixed income investors face. Much attention has been given to the fact that interest rates have been declining for nearly thirty years since the inflation bubble burst in the early 1980s, and rates are currently near their lowest levels in decades. We will focus this discussion on fixed income risk factors facing investors. This presentation will focus on the importance of defining and committing to an investment objective.
