VALVE STEM AND STEM ADAPTER DIMENSIONS AND BRACKET DRILLING PATTERNS FOR ACTUATED QUARTER TURN VALVES.

1. INTRODUCTION. This technical specification is developed by specialists of Akzo Nobel, Dow Benelux, DuPont de Nemours, DSM and Shell.

This specification shall be used to standardise for quarter turn valves the:

- valve stem dimensions and valve top flange drilling patterns,

- stem adapter dimensions and

- bracket dimensions and drilling patterns

until International Codes specify proper requirements for these.

Any deviation from this specification shall be acceptable only after receipt of a written approval/acceptance from the Principal.

Compliance with this technical specification does not exclude the Manufacturers or Suppliers warranty for this design.

1.1 SCOPE This specification prescribes the design requirements for quarter turn valve top-flanges, actuator brackets and stem adapters.

The purpose of this technical specification is to standardize the design of part turn actuators, stem adapters and brackets, in order to retrofit bracket, stem adapter and actuator on each brand quarter turn valve.

1.2 This specification gives amendments / supplements to standard ISO 5211 with the purpose of compliance with Shell Group requirements.

1.3 Clauses of ISO 5211, which are not amended by this specification, shall remain valid as written.

1.4 This specification shall be considered to be part of the valve buying description, when referred to in a MESC description or purchase order requisition.

1.5 The numbers in brackets at the section headings refer to the relevant sections in ISO 5211.

3. DEFINITIONS.

3.1 Top flange: Integral cast-on top flange on a quarter turn valve (not the end-flange) on which a bracket can be fitted.

3.2 Bracket: Interface between ball valve and actuator.

3.3 Actuator (part turn): Actuator which transmits torque via an adapter to the valve for a rotation of one revolution or less. It does not have to be capable to withstand trust.

3.4 Stem adapter: driver shaft between actuator and valve stem.

4. DESIGN.

4.1 The design shall specify the: - stem dimension, upper part only, in relation to the valve top flange - actuator interface requirements (Bracket and adapter) - use of a centering spigot on the valve top flange.

4.2 The design back ground for developing this specification is the possibility to: - use either single- or double acting or actuators. - use existing standards and recommendations (e.g. ISO 5211 and/or Namur NE14) - use standard girders as a bracket (DIN 2395-1 and 2 and/or EN-10210-1), - create stability, stiffness and right alignment of bracket and stem adapter with the fitted actuator in all mounting positions (even with a step-load of 1000 N), to avoid fugitive emissions of the stem packing or malfunctioning of the valve.

4.3 DIMENSIONS

4.3.1 Drilling pattern and stem dimensions are given in table 1 and figure 1 (see section 6.1).

4.3.2 Girder type bracket may be trapezoidal shaped. Dimensions and drilling pattern are given in table 2 and figure 2 (see section 6.2).

4.3.3 Stem adapter dimensions are given in table 3 and Figures 3a & 3b (see section 6.3).

4.4 (5) Add to Clause 5 - 2nd paragraph: The recess on the flange of the valve shall be optional as it is not always functional.

4.5 (8.2 and Figures 10 & 11)

Add to Clause 8.2 and Figures 10 and 11: The position according Figure 10 is the preferred one and the position according Figure 11 is optional.
