Dear Brownsburg:

As many of you know, the Brownsburg Community & Recreation Center will close on December 31, 2009. It has been a pleasure for our staff to serve the community in this capacity over the past five years and we hope to do so again in the future.

We would like to provide some information about our future regarding the offices, programs, community events and parks:

Parks & Recreation OfficeThe park office will be relocating to Town Hall the week of December 28th and will be closed. The Parks and Recreation Office will reopen on January 4, 2010. The hours of operation will be 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. At this location, the public can register for programs, reserve facilities and correspond with department staff.

Programs & Community EventsThe recreation guide that the department prints will continue to be mailed three times annually; Winter Spring in January, Summer in April, and Fall in August. The contents will include some of the programs that have been offered before as well as some new ones at various locations around Town. Most of the community events that are widely attended will continue as they have in the past.

ParksThe parks and open spaces we currently have will continue to be gathering places for the community to use and enjoy. The amenities in the parks are still available as gathering places where there are playgrounds to play on and trails to use at your leisure.

We are grateful to all that have expressed their sadness over the closing of the Community & Recreation Center and appreciate the understanding and continued support of the members, sponsors, residents and local businesses. The comments shared have meant a lot to the staff of the department. We look forward to the future and hope that all of you will take an active role in shaping the future of your park system.

Enthusiastically,

Philip ParninDirector of Parks and Recreation

Veterans Memorial at Williams Park

Located north of Williams Park, this garden is dedicated to all service men and women who have served in the United States military. The

beautifully landscaped garden surrounds a pathway of brick pavers which are inscribed with the names of veterans, the branch of the military they served in,

and the dates of service. The bricks encircle a granite monument with the names and dates of the military actions participated in by this country.

Bricks for the garden can be purchased through the Parks Department

The last day of operation for the Community and Recreation Center will be December 31, 2009. As you may be aware, the lease on the Brownsburg Community and Recreation Center building expires March 1, 2010. The Brownsburg Parks and Recreation Department had worked with the Brownsburg Community School Corporation to look at all possibilities. After close examination and many discussions, the Brownsburg Parks Board concluded that we could not continue to operate the Brownsburg Community and Recreation Center.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Brownsburg Community School Corporation for their unyielding support and partnership with the Parks Department in providing better services to the community. Despite what some people may have heard, the School Board is not kicking the Parks Department out of the building. In fact, they have worked with us in every way to see how we could continue this endeavor. Ultimately, it boiled down to the resources available for operating and maintaining the quality of our entire parks system.

It is the sincere hope of Brownsburg Parks and Recreation that each of our members will continue the healthy lifestyle that the Community and Recreation Center has provided to the citizens of the Brownsburg area for the past 5 years. Thank you for your continued loyalty and support. It has truly been the pleasure of the Brownsburg Community and Recreation Center to serve this great community.
