Nature-friendly hiking and boating• Please respect wildlife, other visitors, and private homes, gardens and holiday homes in the area.

• It is forbidden to land on small islands and islets during the birds’ nesting season, from 15 April to 31 July.

• The lean-to shelters and their surroundings in and nearby the park are recommended for temporary camping.

• The roads are recommended for cyclists.

• Lighting a campfire is permitted only on designated campfire sites but prohibited when the forest fire warning is in effect.

• Follow the rules of litter-free hiking. Safely combustible litter can be burned in fireplaces and organic waste left in toilet com-post. Please take all other wastes away when you leave.

• Fishing under the Fishing Act (eraluvat.fi). Everyman’s right allows you to engage in angling and ice fishing with a rod except in flowing waters.

• You may pick berries and edible mushrooms, but do not collect rocks or plants. Please do not disturb the wildlife.

• Please note that toilets are not equipped with toilet paper.

• Pets must be kept on a leash.

In Southern Konnevesi National Park, visitors can enjoy the wide open waters of the lake in a boat, or canoe through a maze of islands among smooth glaciated rocks and vertical rock walls. In the clear water, you will be able to catch a glimpse of the depths that are the domain of the wild lake brown trout. Breathtaking contrasts char-acterise this national park. You can trek from herbrich forests to high cliffs for a view over the magnificent landscape of the osprey.

Southern Konnevesi National Park offers a unique wilderness experience for visitors arriving by boat, canoe or on foot. In the western part of the lake, the vast open waters and glaciated rock islands invite visitors to spend a summer day boating. The maze created by the Kodan ovinen islands leads paddlers to ancient landscapes amidst vertical, shoreline cliffs. Boats or canoes can be launched from Häyrylän-ranta, Kivisalmi or Kalasatama in Hanhitaipale.

At Enonniemi, the trail leads trekkers from old-growth forest guarded by giant aspen trees to the top of Kalajanvuori hill, where they can admire the magnificent views extending over the national park. The trails in the park are very demanding

due to steep and rocky terrain. However, the trail between Kalaja parking area and Vuori-Kalaja campfire shelter is quite easy. This landscape is the home of the osprey and a large number of rare insect, plant and bird species. Lake Konnevesi and its rapids on the Rautalampi water-way are the domain of the threatened brown trout.
