Welcome Back !!!!!!

Welcome to our first AAA newsletter for the year which is a little

late due to a very busy start to 2014.

On the 4th of February Hampden Hurricanes took part in a “Super

Clinic” with Richmond footy club and two of our players, Graham

Smith and Ben Everall were invited to speak about the Hurricanes

at a Civic Reception hosted by Warrnambool City Council to

welcome Richmond players and coaching staff to the South West.

Graham and Ben represented the Hurricanes in style and should be

very proud of their efforts.

Our next big event was a Charity Cricket Match held in

Warrnambool with all proceeds going to the Peters Project Cancer

care centre appeal. Backyard Cricketers were invited to stage an

exhibition match during the cricket break and did a brilliant job of

showcasing their skills.

The rush doesn’t end there, we had our first ever All Abilities

Triathlon on the 1st of March closely followed by new Boccia

seasons in Warrnambool and Hamilton kicking off on March 2nd.

Howzat Cricket was back from March 5th for 5 weeks. The Coburg

Tigers will make the journey to Warrnambool to take on the

Hurricanes on March 16th and our second All Abilities Community

Surf Day will be held at the Warrnambool Surf Club on Sunday

March 23rd. Fingers crossed for some warmer weather this year!

So apologies for the late newsletter but it’s been an action packed

start and the pace doesn’t look like letting up any time soon.

We’ve got plenty more to come so we look forward to seeing you

all out and about and getting active this year

Promoting Inclusion

All Abilities Triathlon

Eleven brave souls dusted off their bikes, dragged on the bathers and pulled on

the running shoes to take part in the Warrnambool Triathlon Club ’ s inaugural All

Abilities Triathlon in Warrnambool on Saturday, March 1st.

Billed as a precursor to the Tri-Club ’ s annual Sufferfest, the All Abilities version

was slightly less gruelling but challenging enough and required competitors to

complete a 50 metre swim/wade, 200 metre bike/trike/wheel and a 250 metre run/

walk or wheel. Sam Beugalhole took out line honours on the day, putting in a fan-

tastic effort in all three legs and was thrilled to be first across the line. Sam ’ s

Dad, Rob who accompanied his son around the course was delighted for Sam as

well as pretty happy to be finished!

Other competitors who put in a fantastic performance to finish the in fine style were

Drew Miller, Dom Mauribito, Sebastian Serra, Justin Dwyer, Harvey McCorkell,

Christian Bailey, Loretta Thorpe Young. Troy Brown and last minute contenders,

Phil Brown and Kev Nailon who joined in for the run/wheel leg.

The event was wonderfully supported by Tri-Club volunteers and family and friends

and with a lot of positive feedback from participants, volunteers and club members

we hope it will be the first of many. Congratulations everyone!

Congratulations Warrnambool

Springers!!!

We would like to congratulate Warrnambool Springers Gymnastics on being a finalist for Gymnastics Victoria - Inclusive Initiative of the year Award. Gymnastic Victoria in conjunction with VicHealth have initiated an award to be presented to the club which best promotes and demonstrates positive inclusion practices within the sport of gymnastics. Warrnambool Springers is currently involved with the Healthy Sporting Environments program, taking up the challenge of providing healthier, more welcoming, supportive and inclusive environments. The Healthy Sporting Environments program encourages clubs to make positive changes to attitudes and cultures by addressing six health topics, one of them being Inclusion, Safety and Support. Being a finalist for this award is an amazing recognition of all the hard work Warrnambool Springers have put in to making sure their club is inclusive for all.

Congratulations
