Universities, companies and society cooperation drive workforce employability and economic competitiveness for South Mediterranean region http://www.smweld.com/ South Mediterranian Welding center for Education, Training and Quality Control - SM WELD OBJECTIVES IMPACT and RESULTS SM Weld’s overall goal is to implement the International System for Higher Education and Practical Qualification of Welding Personnel based on the harmonized European System for Welding. Based on this, the SM Weld project objectives are: Develop and integrate the module Welding and Joining Specialization MSc in manufacturing programmes and training for International Welding Engineer certification; Develop and integrate the training modules in Welding for non-tertial education and certification training for International Welding Technologist certification; Developing a common European recognized EdTrCert system for Partnership Countries (PCs) - Tunisia and Algeria; Establish the Welding Center in PCs to coordinate the partnerships and implement welding quality certification of companies; Contribute to welfare and improve the standards of life in PCs by securing and creating new jobs in strategic manufacturing areas. The SM WELD project has the purpose to bring the university, enterprises and society close to join the efforts to foster employability - through learning innovation, specialization, training and qualification - and enhancing entrepreneurship - through the creation of welding and joining consultancy, welding trainers and welding audit firms. SM WELD addresses to three main audiences - the Academic community, Welding Personnel and Companies who need certification in welding in compliance with ISO 3884. The project is being developed with a long-term vision of its regional role and its impact in students, teachers and the industry: Create education programmes in Welding and Joining specializations in PCs according to Bologna process system that will increase student and staff mobility between SM and European universities, Implement the System for Education and Qualification of Welding Personnel and create a Welding Center in PCs that will built a fruitful partnership between universities of SM region, companies and other stakeholders (e.g. governmental and local agencies) for knowledge transfer; Develop and implement welding Open Educational Resources (OERs) in both SM and European regions that will increase the welding knowledge and practical skills of students in Universities in Algeria and Tunisia, allowing the workforce to be appropriately educated at all levels; Increase the number of jobs and employability of students in SM region and outside; Allow the recognition in SM region of the EU Certification programmes for International Welding Engineers and Welding audit for Quality assessment of companies according to ISO 3834, which will improve the competitiveness of the SM region companies on the global market. South Mediterranian Welding center for Education, Training and Quality Control - SM WELD

OBJECTIVES IMPACT and RESULTS SM Weld’s overall goal is to implement the International System for Higher Education and Practical Qualification of Welding Personnel based on the harmonized European System for Welding.
