Our thanks again to Mrs Buckley and Mrs Vickers for their excellent organisation and our P&C, school staff and parent/ community volunteers for their terrific support. These type of events again showcase what an outstanding school community we have at South Grafton Public School where everyone pulls together on these big occasions. On Monday our school Tigers debating team debated against Alstonville Public School in the Quarter finals of the Premier’s Debating Challenge. Our team was the negative case and the topic of the debate was ‘Misbehaving Rockstars should be banned from performing in Australia”. Our team performed very well and argued their case extremely strongly and were very unlucky to lose this debate in a very close decision. Thankyou to everyone who supported Grafton Legacy recently we raised $155.10 for this worthy cause. Our Infants Silver Badge Morning Tea will now be held on Wednesday 20th September. Parents will be notified if their child is involved. Our final parent workshop on homework was held yesterday and it was a great evening. Thank you to everyone who attended and thank you to our Stage’s Assistant Principals who presented on the night. Our next workshop will be held in Term 4 on the 18th October and the topic is Spelling which will be presented by Mrs Buckley, Mrs Berry and Miss Clapham. Tonight 5/6AP are holding their annual presentation evening in the school Library from 6.00pm - 7.00pm. This year’s presentation is called ‘War on Waste’. Our thanks to Mrs Pope and our students for preparing this excellent presentation.

Good luck to Rhani McGrath, William Tibbett, Tim Simpson and Hannah Horstman who are competing tomorrow in the Dudley Jones Memorial Tennis Shield to be held at Grafton City Tennis courts commencing at 9.15am.

Congratulations to Zoe Rayward, Esther Barker, Tom Lehman and Ben Woolfe who competed in the finals of the Premier’s Spelling Bee last Wednesday at Maclean Public School. We are very proud of our Spelling team who all performed very well!

Currently our new Primary bus shelter is being installed. We are hopeful it will be completed next week. Our thanks also to Mr Masson and Mr Vallette who are doing an outstanding job reinvigorating our Primary rainforest. Have a great week Mr Peter Hickey Principal

This year SGPS is celebrating our Sesquicentenary 1867-2017. This occasion will be celebrated on Saturday 21st October 2017. Our team is currently working very hard with the organisation and we are looking forward to a fabulous day. Our school is presenting a Performing Arts concert as part of the formalities. Students involved in this concert will be informed next week. They will be required to perform on the Saturday and we will need to know asap if they are going to be available on this date.

Congratulations to our four artists, Ella Sinclair, Lily Vidler, Elisha Scott and Haley Williamson who had their artwork exhibited last weekend at the 22nd Operation Art exhibition at The Armory Gallery at Sydney Olympic Park. Two thousand visitors viewed the artworks on the day and amongst them were Haley and her family. Haley said it was an amazing experience seeing all the artworks and finding hers with two stickers indicating that her work had been chosen for further accolades- the Art Bank where it is selected to be hung in Regional hospitals or NSW Educational offices and Paw Print which means it is selected to illustrate various teaching strategies. Lily’s artwork was also given the Paw Print sticker. Elisha’s artwork was selected to be hung in the NSW Office of the Children’s Guardian and will later be hung in a regional hospital. We are very proud of our four artists’ achievements.
