Everyone is welcome. We have several positions that will be available because some of our volunteers have moved from our community or stepped down. We are currently looking for a Hall Rental Coordinator, Kids Party Planners, a Chair for the Trail Days Committee, and a couple of other positions. Getting involved with your community league is a great way to meet your neighbors and help plan events in our community. We have funds to offer activities and there are also grants available – we just need a little help to make things happen. A large time commitment is not required. Meetings are held once a month for about an hour and a half. Some of our current members have been in these roles for a number of years and if we don’t find a few replacements, our Board may not be able to continue to operate. Please contact Heather at [email protected] for more information. Just let us know the amount of involvement you are comfortable with and we will find a role that works for you! The cost is $20/year per family and the membership gives you discounts on classes and events at the Hall and voting privileges at meetings. Community Roadside Cleanup Fundraiser Thank you to our volunteers who helped out with the Roadside Cleanup on Saturday, June 1 st . Community League Annual General Meeting on Thursday, June 13th

Would you be interested in a summer day camp for kids at the SCL Hall? Please let us know for what ages you are looking for and what kind of programming you would like to see. We'd love to see a rural option available for families in our area. We are also looking for people who may be able to help plan and run the program. This would be a paid position. Registration for the SCL Girl Guide Units Now Open!

Are you looking for an activity for your daughter to gain new skills, develop her confidence, discover herself and the world around her, and be supported so she can become everything she wants to be? Girl Guides of Canada offers activities in STEM, community service, saving the environment exploring the great outdoors and more. She’ll create lifelong friendships and develop skills to take on challenges that girls face today. If this is something you think your daughter might enjoy, contact Shari at [email protected] for more information. Meetings for girls age 5 to 17 are offered at the South Cooking Lake Community Hall. The meetings run from September until May or June. You can also visit www.girlguides.ca for more information. SCL Scout Group Resuming in September

We are excited the Beaver Scout group will be continuing to meet at our Hall next year. Boys and girls welcome! Beavers is for ages 5 to 7 and the meetings will likely run on Wednesdays again. We are also looking into offering a Cubs unit for ages 8 to 10 but we need a couple more volunteers to go ahead. Would you like to be in the Trail Days parade on Saturday, August 17th? For more information, contact Karen at 587-340-9850. There is no cost to participate. Day and Evening Fitness Classes For the Fall and Winter?

We are looking for interest in fitness classes for the Fall. What would you like to see? Strength training or cardio bootcamps, pre and post natal fitness, yoga, Barre fitness, Zumba, kickboxing, Pilates, Strollercize workouts ... let us know what you would like to see offered and we will do our best to make it happen! We know of several local fitness instructors and we'd love to add their classes to the programming we offer at the Hall. Contact Heather at [email protected]. Self Defence course at the Hall?

Would you like to see a Self Defence class at the Hall for kids, teens or adults? Please contact Heather at [email protected] to be added to our contact list for when we have more details. Crochet Classes May Resume Soon

Parent and Tot Music & Movement Class For the Fall

We're excited about this new class for little ones and their parent, taught by local elementary school music specialist and mom, Liz Driedger. We are just looking for a few more families who are interested. A discount is available for multiple children attending, and older children can play quietly in the same room at no charge. Looking for Interest in Daytime Yoga Classes

Dance, yoga, meditation, Girl Guides, Scouts, art, indoor soccer for kids, photography, martial arts, drama, learn to crochet, and belly dancing classes have recently been offered at our Hall. What other classes would you like to see? Contact Heather at [email protected] with your ideas. Facebook Group Provides Updates on Classes and Events at the Hall

Have you joined our Facebook group to receive news about classes and events going on at the Hall? The group is called “South Cooking Lake Events and Classes at the Hall”. Also please “like” the South Cooking Lake Community League Facebook page as well. It’s a great way to stay connected with what’s going on in our community. Looking for Instructors

Would you or would someone you know be interested in teaching a class in our community? Some suggestions for classes have been gymnastics for kids, sewing, art, etc. Other suggestions for classes are always welcome. Please contact Heather

at [email protected] with your ideas. Do you have shoes that could be recycled?

The Strathcona County South Contact Office at the SCL Firehall is accepting shoe donations. Shoes in good shape will be given to local people in need and the remaining shoes will be sent to Sole4Souls, a not for profit group in Ontario that helps developing countries build their economies while diverting waste from the landfill at the same time. Last year Strathcona County saved 24,000 shoes from being sent to the landfill. Let's help make this year's number even higher! Childcare and Babysitter Group on Facebook
