Hello everyone, Well, it appears that we are off to a beautiful spring. Oh, wait it only it’s only a

few days to summer and it feels like April. So, I guess we are not off to the best

start, but I was down at the club last night and the weather was fantastic. I even

saw 5 or 6 boats leave the harbor with plenty of fish being caught. Hopefully the

switch has been thrown and it’s time to start our boating season.

Thank you to everyone that was able to make it out for the blessing of the fleet.

Tara and Tom have been sponsoring this event for several years now and it is al-

ways a great time. I would also like to give a shout out for the people that came

out to help clean up the grounds, planted the flowers and went to pick them up for

us. One final thanks to the lift crew who managed to get all the boats in over this

long drawn out weather ridden spring.

With the summer season hopefully approaching fast I would like to encourage

everyone to come down to the club to have a good time. If you are a new member

don’t be bashful, we have a good group of people and everyone will be more than

happy to hang out with you and answer any of your questions. When I joined the

club the way I got to know everyone is to bribe them with drinks. For some reason

around our club that seems to work well. If you are in the mood to put in some

hours there is a book behind the bar with projects but remember it isn’t all about

work the primary focus of the club should be the play side.

I would like to apologize for the recent interruptions in fuel service, the gate oper-

ation, electrical, etc. While to some it might feel as if nothing is moving forward,

in the background we have a lot of people trying to determine the best course of

action to move forward with the proper repairs to not only serve our immediate

needs, but to also provide the club with a long term solutions that will benefit its

members for years come. When dealing with some of our older infrastructure,

there are items that many may not realize need to be considered, codes, costs, etc.

While some of our decisions might not give us instant gratification, the delayed

gratification of working toward a sustainable infrastructure should be well worth

the wait. By the way I hate the word sustainable and love instant gratification.

Unfortunately, as I get more involved with this position, I realize the party can’t

go on forever if somebody isn’t setting up the occasional beer run.

Well enough ranting for this month

See you at the club,

Bryan Gahan SMYC Commodore (c) 906-369-4098 (e) [email protected] Past Commodore Comments quote of the Month.

I have one of those low swim platforms on the back of my boat. I

noticed a hen mallard with seven cute little ducklings in tow, pad-

dling around our harbor. They will grow up to be adult mallards

in a couple months. Check out my swim platform then!

Greetings, Congrats on becoming Commodore and the start of yet another boating season @ SMYC! Having read several High Tide newsletters, I really enjoy the "throwback" picture of the month as well as other included images. My brother and I loved coming to the club during the 80s as kids. We were members of the Juniors, set up and cleaned up after parties, even ran to the basement getting ice and took out garbage for the bartenders during events. Oh, yep - we had plenty of fun too! I witnessed the new hall (1989) under construction. Although I was not around when the gas dock new piers went in, I'm glad to see you have a travel lift bay - only a dream back in the 80s. So, I sent you a "throwback" image of Price Erecting lifting Gracious Lady (our family's wood 42ft Richardson) in the late 80s. She is likely one of the largest lifts in club history. Your newsletter honored lifetime members the Brucks and Muellers - wonderful people. The very year of Gracious Lady's inaugural launching at SMYC the Brucks let us use their large water pump to keep her from sinking until the wood swelled the next day. The prior owner had her stranded in outside storage for many, many years so the wood was quite dry. Here are some of the names I recall from my time at the club (I move away back in 1998): Thompson, Bruck, Mueller, Stienhaus, Klamrowski, Pasniak, Hudzinski, Gilmore. Darlene Pasniak is the mom of a friend of mine from the college years. I did not know her from the club. Small world. Also attached are several images of the new harbor entrance being constructed. My father (club member at the time) won the bid and completed the job on time and on bid. I believe the guy with the cutting torch is Jim Kruse. One image shows boats double and triple "parked" during some summer popular party. Have a happy and safe summer! Chris Schumacher [email protected] P.S. Trivia Qustion: See how many members know what the club "Flintstone" was.

Skillet Chicken Jalapeno Popper Sliders

These sliders were made in a Presto electric skillet. The cooking time may vary in different skillets.

1/3 cup cream cheese spread (about 3 ounces)

1/2 cup shredded Monterrey Jack cheese

½ jalapeno, seeded and minced

½ tsp garlic salt

¼ tsp black pepper

1 cup cooked shredded chicken

6 slider buns

1 Tbl butter, melted

• Cover skillet and preheat for 10 minutes.

• In a bowl, stir cheeses, jalapeno, garlic salt, and pepper until well mixed. Stir in chicken; set

aside.

• Cut buns horizontally in half; place bottom halves on a piece of aluminum foil. Spread with

chicken mixture; cover with top of buns. Wrap excess foil around sides of buns.

• Drizzle butter over sandwiches.

• Place in skillet, cover and bake for 15 minutes or until filling is heated through. Watch carefully

so the bottom of the bun doesn’t burn.

Notes: Recipe may be doubled One large chicken breast cooked should yield about 1 cup shredded. Use store-bought rotisserie chicken. For added heat, add 1 tablespoon of hot sauce to chicken mixture.
