LESSON EXEMPLAR IN MATHEMATICS VSOLVING PROBLEMS INVOLVING CIRCUMFERENCE MEASURE (Third Quarter)

I. Competency

Solving word problems involving circumference measure.

II. Topic

Solving Problems Involving Circumference Measure

III. Activity

1. A teacher-made problem is drawn from a box and read to the class by a pupil or leader. The pupils will explain their individual strategy to solve the problem mentally.2. The teacher flashes multiplication card using socialized recitation.3. Teacher then flashes again multiplication flash cards with the pi(3.14) as multiplicand. Pupils writes their answers on a piece of paper.

IV. Discussion

Ask questions about the previous lesson on circumference (e.g. The distance around the circle is __________.; A line that passes through the center of a circle is _____________.; The formula for finding the circumference of a circle is ____________.)

Present a real-life problem involving finding the circumference of a circle. Let the pupils analyze the problem using the process for problem-solving.

Present different problems for pupils to solve. If possible, let them solve in peers or groups to inculcate cooperation.

Have pupils solve more problems in pairs.

V. Assessment

Read the problems carefully. Fill in the blanks with the correct answer. Write your answers neatly.

1. Lornas circular garden is 5 meters in diameter. How many meters of wire are needed to put a fence around it?

2. The diameter of a tricycle tire is 60 cm. How far will the tire go in one rotation? In 15 rotations?

3. Find the circumference of a circle with a diameter of 21 meters.

4. Your friend is finding the circumference of a circle with a radius of 25 cm. Help him solve for the answer.

5. If the circumference of a circle is 250 meters, how long is its radius?
