INTRODUCTION

Solos for young Violinists is a six volume series of music books with companion CDs

featuiing *otàthan 50 pieces for violin and piano. {tany of the works in this collec-

tion havË long been recognized as stepping stones to the major violin repertoire, while

others are newly published pieces which offer further choices for study; most are

recorded in this séries for thè very first time. Compiled, edited and recorded by vio-

linist BarbaraBarber, SolosforYoungViolinists is a graded series of works ranging frop

elementary to advanced léveh and represents an exciting variety of styles and tech-

niques foi violinists. The collection hal become a valuable resource for teachers and

Simpte Folk Songs for violin and piano are arrangements offolk songs taken from Volume 7 of the Concord Seriespublished by the E. C. Schirmer Music Company inl92l.Each "piece," as it should be referred to when being playedon violin, is preceded by a preparatory scale whichintroduces a new finger pattern. The lyrics at the end ofeach selection are provided not necessarily as a leamingdevice, but only as a point of interest and to indicate thestyle in which each should be played.
