The importance of vitamin CVitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid, is a water-soluble antioxidant vitamin that plays a role in many body functions.* It is essential in helping to maintain collagen (a protein neces-sary for forming skin, ligaments, bones, and teeth) and for helping to maintain healthy blood vessels.* Vitamin C is also essential for the function of white blood cells, which are critical components of the immune system.*
