  • The Future of Energy...

  • A new Generation...

Activ8 Energies is the nations leading installer of Solar water heating systems.

Activ8 Energies was formed with a mission.

To change peoples attitudes towards solar energy in Ireland

To educate and promote public awareness to the benefits of modern solar power

To offer the customer the most efficient and cost effective methods of harnessing free solar energy

To provide the highest standard of installation and customer service

  • The Future of Energy

SOLAR POWER IS The Future of Energy

The long term plan of the Dept. of Energy is that12% of heating energy should be provided by renewables by 2020. A rough calculation translates this as 1/3 of all houses in Ireland to have a solar water heating system installed.

Eamon Ryan TD, Minister for Communications (right),

Energy and Natural Resources officially opened

the new Activ8 Energies national installation and service

centre on the 15th of May 2009.

  • Why invest in Solar?

  • Energy bills have risen continuously from 1970 to the present day and by 2050 the worlds fossil fuel supplies will be 75% less than what they were in 1850

It is predicted that Fossil Fuel consumption will exceed production by 2014 and by 2050 the worlds fossil fuel supplies will be 75% less than what they were in 1850

    Why invest in Solar

    Middle East 41%

    Former Soviet Union 38%

    Rest of the World 15%

    Europe, US& Japan 6%

    The biggest Fuel reserves

Gas resources are currently being pipelined through politically unstable and volatile countries assuming that these countries are willing to export their gas resources!

Ireland is not self sufficient, and unless prepared, will not avoid the consequences of this global crunch

When demand grows and supply falls... Prices rise

  • Between 2003 - 2013Increase in fuel costs in just 10 years

  • A solar water heating system on a typical house can reduce CO2 emissions by around 400kg or half a tonne.

Carbon tax in 2010 was 6.5% on Oil (Kerosene) and 7% on Gas, both set to rise in the future if emissions are not reduced

The amount of raw pollutant produced by your boiler every year is equivalent to a tipper truck unloading a tonne and a half of soot on your driveway.

Carbon tax on coal will be charged at the rate of 26.33 + VAT per tonne. This rate is applicable to coal, anthracite, smokeless mixes, ovoids and lignite.

The carbon tax will be charged on peat products at the rate of 18.33 + VAT per tonne of briquetts and 13.62 per tone of sod peat

The new tax which is already charged on heating oil and gas will increase the price of a 40kg of coal by about 1.20. Peat briquettes will increase by about 40c a bale

In 2012 Carbon Tax has raised 370 million. The VAT charged on top of the Carbon Tax will raise another 39 million.

Cutting was stopped on 24 bogs last year, and the ban was extended to another 31 in June 2013. Cutting at a further 75 bogs will cease by the end of 2013.

  • The BER is the Energy Performance certificate; that informs prospective buyers about the energy performance of your house a rating between A-G.

    Energy Efficiency

    Building Energy Rating (BER)

The average property in Ireland falls within bands D-E for both ratings.

Do buyers care how efficient my home is?

Yes. The SEAI claim their research proves buyers will pay up to 12,000 more for an environmentally friendly house and that 70% of all buyers consider energy efficiency to be of high importance when buying a home.

  • Myth: Ireland is not sunny enough

Myth:Solar energy is not efficient enough

    Myth: Solar is too expensive

Myth: Most of our energy is not for hot water

Myth: The payback is too long

Myth: It wont make any difference to the environment

One thing is certain; you will never get any money back from your current energy supplier!

    Myths and Misconceptions

WHAT MOST PEOPLE THINK ABOUT SOLAR ENERGY

  • One thing is certain, you will never get any money back from your current energy

    supplier!

Our collectors do not need direct sunlight. They work from natural daylight.

Activ8 systems are extremely efficient, especially in the transitional periods between spring and Autumn

Its never been cheaper! You will be paying for it with money that you would otherwise give to the utility companies.

Unlike seasonal central heating, hot water is a year round requirement

Typically a system will pay for itself several times over, not only by the energy savings but also due to the potential increase in property value.

Climate change is a fact! Any contribution to a better environment for our future generations is better than no contribution.

  • How the Activ8 Energies system works

The collectors capture and absorb the suns radiation. The heat is then conducted to the fluid flowing through the collector

    4

The hot fluid from the collector is circulated via flexible stainless steel pipes by a pump through to a coil inside the insulated tank.

    2

The coil conducts the heat and the resulting hot water flows from the outlet valve

    3

The hot water is delivered to wherever it is needed throughout the house

All cylinders are designed and manufactured in Ireland so that Activ8 can ensure the highest qualitystandards are met.

Due to the variable speed pump within our pump station we can reduce the overall running cost. On average the yearly cost of running the pump is only 8.

Once you have sufficient hot water in your cyclinder the contoller automatically stops your pump running to maintain system efficiency.

  • Activ8 Energies solar panels are marked with the KEYMARK which means that they comply with uniform European (EN) Quality Standards.

A product may only be marked with the KEYMARK if it has been tested and certified by a neutral, independent and competent body. The factory inspection and Initial Type Testing (ITT), apart from the regular inspection, constitute an important element of the procedure for granting the KEYMARK.

    Key Mark Certificate

    Accredited to the highest standard

Therefore our solar panels conform to the high standards indispensable in ensuring safety technology, in protecting health, the environment and customer interests.

  • Poor Installation

A picture of dislodged panels due to high Irish winds which were incorrectly mounted. (Meathhill, Co. Meath)

Short cuts, such as poor pipework insulation can increase heat loss in the system. Other short cuts like that show in the picture of an inappropriately used TV cable are potential fire hazards.

Panels installed vertically on the gable of this house. This is not only unsightly but also extremely inefficient.

Solar panels completely shadowed by chimney resulting in minimal heat output from system. This is not up to industry standards.

  • Activ8 ensures the highest standards are met for installations to maximise the highest efficiency and peace of mind for your home.

    Good Installation

Panels secured properly to the roof ensuring no damage to your home.

Panels installed on the roof to which it blends in with the structure of the house and takes advantage of the suns energy.

Activ8 carry out full site survey of your home to ensure our solar panels are installed with no shading and correct orientation. This guarantees maximum performance for all Activ8 installs.

  • WE DONT JUST MEET STANDARDS

    WE SET THEM...
