Getting startedDefault settings

2

 9SHPWES EN 1.0

2 Getting started

2.1 Default settings

For all Windows Embedded Standard 2009 images, two users and a permanent IP addressare defined. The default settings are as follows:

Default user Default password Rights

Administrator admin Administratior

MyUser (no password) User

Observe case sensitivity when writing your password!

Settings for the first network connection:

IP address: 192.168.5.99

Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

Default gateway: 192.168.5.1

This is required both for an automated system login and for a remote desktop connection.

2.2 Change user settings and create more users

Go to the user management of the system control to change the settings (password, account type etc.) for existing users and to create new users.

 Note!

If you assign a password to a user with restricted access rights, please ensurethat the "Password does not expire" flag is set.

This is important, in particular, because limited access rights for systempartition C:\ entail full write protection by default which makes it impossibleto write a new password to the system partition. The password may beaccepted but is only saved volatilely to the RAM and will be gone when thesystem is restarted.

Please follow the path below to check if the "Password does not expire"control field has been selected:

Right−click My computer "Manage" "Local users and groups" "Users" <User name> "General" register

Getting startedAutomated Login

2

 10 SHPWES EN 1.0

2.3 Automated Login

Automated login for the preset user (administrator) is factory set. If you wish to set anautomated login for another user, proceed as follows:

1. Start the Windows registration editor (select <Start> Run "regedit").

2. In the editor, select the following path:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\

3. Enter the desired user name into key DefaultUserName.

4. The following keys must be generated as string values (<Right−click> New StringValue):

AutoAdminLogon: value 1

DefaultPassword: respective user password

When Windows Embedded Standard is restarted, an automated login is performed for theselected user.

2.4 Change Language

The standard installation is always done in English. However, the language can be changedto German.

How to change the language:

1. Start the Control Panel (<Start> Control Panel).

2. Activate the registry Languages in the dialog box Regional and language options.

3. Select the desired language in the list Language used in menus and dialogs and click<OK>.

4. Confirm the prompt for a new system login.

5. User Log Off (<Start> Log Off)

6. User login.

Setup of the File Based Write Filters (FBWF)

 11SHPWES EN 1.0

3 Configuration

3.1 Lenze Write Filter Manager

The Lenze Write Filter Manager in the Windows Embedded Standard image supports theFile Based Write Filter (FBWF) which denies write access to files on file level.

Any write access to a protected object is only saved volatilely to the RAM and will be gonewhen the system is restarted.

The administrator is able to define certain files or folders as unprotected. Any write accessto an unprotected object is saved non−volatilely and will still be there when the system isrestarted.

 Note!

ƒ To change the Write Filter Configuration, administrator rights are required.

ƒ System partition C:\ has full write protection. Files and folders cannot bedefined as unprotected.

ƒ Generally, it should be impossible to write from a software application tothe system partition if the write filter is activated. Otherwise, the RAM mayfill up and overflow.

3.1.1 Setup of the File Based Write Filters (FBWF)

1. Start Lenze Write Filter Manager (<Start> System control LDC Write FilterManager).

2. Activate the registry File Based Write Filter (FBWF) .

– Disable / Enable FBWF: Activates and deactivates, respectively, the File BasedWrite Filter (FBWF)

– Volume: The here selected data media or partitions are protected against writeaccesses. If a data medium or a partition is removed from the list, allcorresponding unprotected files and folders will be removed, too.

– Unprotected Files and Folders: Files and folders can only be entered as unprotectedif the corresponding data medium or the corresponding partition is listed on thevolume list.

– Remove: The removal of files, folders, or data media from the list is feasible bymarking the elements on the list and subsequent selecting the remove button.

 Note!

The File Based Write Filter cannot be activated or set up for the currentsession. This is only possible for the next session after restarting the system.

ConfigurationLenze Write Filter ManagerStatus information

 12 SHPWES EN 1.0

3.1.2 Status information

The Task icon displays the current status of the Write Filter:

Task icon Message Description

Activated Write Filter. System is protected (C:\ and protected foldersand files)!

Deactivated Write Filter. System is unprotected!

Write Filter settings have been changed. The changes are activated when the system isrestarted! The system is protected at themoment!

Write Filter settings have been changed. The changes are activated when the system isrestarted! The system is unprotected at themoment!

 Note!

The status of the Write Filter is only displayed if the active user hasadministrator rights.

3.1.3 Delete Folders or Files

Unprotected folders can be deleted in the Windows Explorer by pressing <SHIFT> + <Del>on the keyboard. This key combination bypasses the recycle bin and deletes the fileimmediately. This is necessary because the recycle bin is a protected folder that cannot beclassified as unprotected. Unprotected files and folders cannot be moved to a protectedfolder.

Deactivating the recycle bin is another possibility to delete an unprotected folder or file:

1. Deactivate FBWF.

2. Restart the computer.

3. Choose Properties after right−clicking the recycle bin.

4. Activate option Do Not Move Files To The Recycle Bin. Remove Files ImmediatelyWhen Deleted.

5. Activate FBWF.
