NOTES ON PLANTING
1 Topsoil in accordance with BS3882:2015. It shall be spread to min 450mm depth over planting beds and 150mm depth over turf areas and graded to fall.
2 Herbicide and Cultivation: Topsoil to be treated with an application of herbicide prior to planting, where necessary, strictly in accordance with the Control of Pesticides Regulations1986 (or otherwise updated/ supercededlegislation), and following manufacturer's instructions by qualified staff. The topsoil shall then be cultivated to 150mm depth.
3 Container Grown Shrubs, Transplants and Whips: Shrubs and transplants shall comply with the National Plant Specification. Shrubs shall be planted in pits 300 x 300 x 200mm depth, and the backfill shall include 3 litres PeatFree Tree and Shrub Compost. Specimen plants to be planted in a pit 400 x 400 x 250mm depth with 5 litres Tree and Shrub Compost. BR whips should be notch planted as required and healed into position. Hedge plantingareas excavated to a minimum of 300mm depth over subsoil and 350mm depth over fill material. Native hedge to be planted in double staggered row, 30cm apart, protected with spiral rabbit guards.
4 Herbicide: Spot treat with herbicide throughout the maintenance period in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.
5 Bark Mulch: All Ornamental Planting beds to receive 75mm depth pulverised ornamental bark mulch.
6 Position of Plants: Final position of trees and shrubs subject to confirmation of service location and approval of statutory undertakers.
7 TREES - MULTISTEM Tree pit to be 600x600x600mm backfilled with good quality topsoil. Pit backfilled with 1 parts topsoil, 2 parts tree planting compost to depth of 500mm, loosen and shape base to be to depth of 100mmfill with clean stone. If within lawn tree to be set in circle area of bark mulch 75mm depth at 500mm diameter.
Tree to be secured with 1nr stake, to be 65mm diameter treated softwood driven firmly into the ground. Stake to be pointed at one end. Stake fix to tree with adjustable soft tree tie with spacer. Rubber tree strap secured with1No nail (galvanised round head).
TREES - HEAVY STANDARDS / EXTRA HEAVY STANDARD: Tree pit to be 1000x1000x900mm depth. Pit backfilled with 1 parts topsoil, 2 parts tree planting compost to depth of 750mm, loosen and shape base to be to depth of150mm fill with clean stone. If within lawn tree to be set in circle area of bark mulch 75mm depth at 500mm diameter.
Tree to be secured with 2nr of 100mm round treated softwood stakes driven firmly into the ground, 600mm above ground level and fixed to tree with suitable rubber tree tie. Stakes to be pointed at one end. Stakes fix to treewith adjustable soft tree tie with spacer. Rubber tree strap secured with 1No nail (galvanised round head).
All the trees to be planted with irrigation ring (e.g. RootRain Metro as supplied by Green Blue Urban) wrapped around the root-ball, the end of the pipe to be secured to the tree stake.
Root barriers (ReRoot 1000 from Green Blue Urban or equivalent ) to be included adjacent to buildings and services where necessary.
TREES IN HARD LANDSCAPE: Tree pit 1200x1200x900mm depth with 150mm depth of clean stone to the base and 750mm depth good quality topsoil. Tree to be set in Porous Arboresin, in a Dorset Gold colour as suppliedby GreenBlue Urban or similar approved. Standard galvanised frames are available to provide a paving/bound gravel edge and help support paving loading for light traffic. To have an inner circular aluminium collar to supportthe expansion of the tree stem. Tree to be secured with 4 x Timber stakes with 4mm guy wire to anchor the tree in place. Top of rootball to be secured with a gripple tensioner 2no. per tree and 125 x 25mm timber frame toprotect the rootball. ReRoot root barrier to be set around the tree pit. All the trees to have irrigation pipe (to wrap around the rootball of the tree) and secure the end of the pipe to the tree stake (e.g. RootRain Metro assupplied by Green Blue Urban).
8 Watering: Watering: Plant only into moist soil and water thoroughly to the full depth of soil immediately after planting. Water regularly through the establishment period (minimum 3 months) to prevent dehydration. Treeshould be watered in when planted, and at the point of bud burst in the spring and should be continued throughout the spring and summer until the leaves have fallen in autumn. Water should be applied to the base of thetree, evenly distributed over the entirety of the root-ball to encourage even root development. Watering is advised for the first 2 summers after planting, further to this the tree should be able to access water from thesurrounding soil. During the height of summer, water should be applied at a rate of 2 domestic bucket fulls (or 20 liters of water) every other day. This figure is the aim to reach during the height of summer and can be graduallyincreased to this in the spring and decreased before ceasing watering in the autumn.
Plants to be supplied in accordance with the HTA 'National Plant Specification' and from a HTA certified nursery. All plants and trees to be planted in accordance with BS3936 & BS8545(2014). Delivery and handling of all plantmaterial to be in accordance with BS4428/JCLI/CPSE Code of Practice for 'Handling and Establishing Landscape Plants' Parts I, II and III. All excavated areas to be backfilled with either on site topsoil or imported topsoil to beBS3882-General purpose grade. All tree pits including planting and associated operations shall comply with BS8545, BS4043, BS4428 and BS5837.
