SBJH WASC ACCREDITEDWhat is accreditation? Accreditation is a voluntary dual-purpose process that schools
(1) Must be worthy of the trust placed in them to provide high-quality learning and (2) Clearly demonstrate continual self-improvement. An accredited school is focused on a mission and goals for students; it is student-oriented and examines its students’ performance continuously; it accepts objective evaluation from a team of outside peer professionals trained by Accrediting Commission for Schools, Western Association of Schools and Colleges (ACS WASC); it maintains a qualified faculty within an effectively organized school; it collaboratively assesses the quality of its educational programs on a regular basis; and it plans for the future.
SBJH GOLD RIBBON SCHOOLThe Gold Ribbon Award recognizes California schools that have made gains in implementing the academic content and performance standards adopted by the State Board of Education.
SBJH EXPECTATIONSOur mission as a staff -- At Santa Barbara Junior High our purpose is to establish and maintain a community of learners and learning through relationship, relevance and rigor. We want all students on the path to being career and/or college ready by the time they graduate from high school. In order to achieve that goal the staff at SBJHS: Must challenge students academically, provide academic and emotional support, communicate effectively, ensure a safe environment, and develop relationships with the school community. In order to achieve this, all students must be present, be punctual, be a participant and be productive. We will promote a culture of mutual trust and respect among students, parents, staff, and community members. It is only by working together, student, staff and family that we can ensure each student has the opportunity to achieve academic excellence.
