When Soap and Paper Fac-tory’s business boomed, it was time to outsource. It

was time to make the piec-es of the buiness puzzle fit. Connex was there to sync

up their business.

The CustomerStarting off as a hobby in a New York basement, Lisa found love in the art of soap. After the events of 9/11, it was time to move from the big city to the quiet suberbs and focus on family. Lisa’s soaps were so popular with family and friends it was time to make some money! Lisa started selling her products at lo-cal farmers markets. From there, word of mouth kept Lisa very busy. Next, it was time for Lisa to find a part-ner.

Enter Shannon, someone with a history in computers and technology, making her a perfect fit for Lisa’s growing business. This let Shannon focus on what is truly important to her...fam-ily. With Shannon on board and family at the forefront, Soap and Paper Facotry continued to boom. Cus-tomers became, “Addicted to Lisa’s products.“ Accomo-dating their rapid growth, Lisa and Shannon began selling on Yahoo Stores, and once a week they would have a ladies night spent wrapping and shipping soaps. Inital employees (friends) were paid in prod-uct; yes Lisa’s products are that good! After sucess online and at local markets, it was time to tackle the world of whole-sale. The wholesale market made it clear it was time to move from the basement to a studio. As amazing as the wholesale success was, it’s also, “terrifying.“ That meant it was time to grow yet again and manual data entry was becoming in-creasingly tedious.

The Challenge

Soap and Paper needed to outsource in order to con-tinue expanding. Outsourc-ing comes with managing many moving parts, from filling orders, to shipping, and everything in between.

Soap and Paper was hav-ing to manually enter or-ders, then send them to their shipping solution. Once the order shipped, it would have to manually entered again with updat-ed shipping information. “We depended on cut and paste,” Shannon said. Next, Shannon had to find a way to make her QuickBooks talk to the Soap and Papers shipping solution. It was time for Connex to join the family.

The SolutionShannon needed to make an organic connection, and Connex was just the company to do that! Soap and Paper Factory had a diverse set of needs, as they wanted to both import orders to their shipping solution, while syncing a spreadsheet. Shannon was easily ‘on-boarded’ by Connex staff. Therefore, Soap and Paper was now able to remove the tedious manual labor. “You guys [Connex] are a major play-er, and Sandi is a hero.”

The ResultsSoap and Paper has been part of the Connex family for a whole year now, and growth continues to be at the forefront. “We are moving on to Amazon, and because of Connex we can!” After partnering with Connex, all of the pieces were finally connected: ”The biggest thing is we can get information to our fufilment center, which is incredible. Then, the informa-tion can also go back! Our sales person would have to wait for our shipper to send the tracking number back, in order to update QuickBooks. We depended on cut and paste. We send all orders to ShipStation now, and that information all feeds back to QuickBooks. Magento talks to ShipStation; Connex pulls all the information from ShipStation. Now we can get retail information all in once place. We were printing orders and manually entering them for our wholesales cus-tomers before we had Connex.”
