Serving cities such as Detroit, Grand Rapids, Saginaw, and Flint, the PM provided freight, and passenger service throughout the state. e Pere Marquette also reached into Indiana, Ohio, and Ontario as well as carferry service across Lake Michigan. e Chesapeake and Ohio Railway absorbed the PM in 1947, making the trackage the Pere Marquette District. Much of the former PM has lasted into the CSX era, and the name lives on as a part of Amtrak’s service between Chicago and Grand Rapids. At the time of the absorption into the C&O, the Pere Marquette rostered a fleet of over 14,000 freight cars. Many of these cars were specially suited for the heavy percentage of automotive traffic on the PM’s lines, but the vast majority were common, general-purpose freight cars that roamed the North American rail network freely. e Pere Marquette’s freight car fleet had longevity as well. Because of equipment trust restrictions, many cars remained in full PM lettering well past the merger. Several hundred cars lasted into the 1960s in their PM paint jobs. Suitable Models e list of freight cars owned by the Pere Marquette and lettered in this style is too extensive to be listed here. However, there are may cars on the market that easily fit into PM classes. Several are listed here: Basic Decal Application Prepare model with a glossy surface prior to decal application. Cut the desired decal from the sheet. Dip in warm water for about 10 seconds. Set decal on clean cloth to remove excess water. Place decal and backing paper near final location on model. Slide decal film from backing and onto the model. Move into desired location. Once pleased with the location, remove remaining water and trapped air with clean cloth or swab. Re-wet and reposition if needed. Once completely satisfied with the position of the decal, use setting solution of your choice if desired. �e Prototype�e Pere Marquette Railway was a major regional railroad throughout Michigan. Serving cities such as Detroit, Grand Rapids, Saginaw, and Flint, the PM provided freight, and passenger service throughout the state. �e Pere Marquette also reached into Indiana, Ohio, and Ontario as well as carferry service across Lake Michigan.
