PROTECTING YOUR IDENTIFICATIONSecurity concerns in the present world continue to grow ever more complex. There are many concerns regarding the threats to identity management measures such as access cards, employee identity cards, password protection, personal identification numbers (PINs), passports, and so on; which can be forgotten, lost, disclosed, or changed. Identity theft is now doubling every year, and the cost of fraud in the U.S. alone totals more than USD 55 billion. As a consequence new levels of security and multifactor authentication are required for ID, passports, access control and transactions. By replacing passwords and pin codes with fingerprint authentication, restricted access can be provided in a secure and user-friendly manner. Authorized users get secure access simply by swiping a finger across the SmartFinger® Film sensor.

SMARTFINGER® FILM VARIANTS

SensorThe IDEX® SmartFinger® film swipe sensor can be customized for easy integration into any biometric based product. The SmartFinger® Film technology is available to OEMs and system integrators as either components for integration into products, or by technology licensing using their own in-house production capabilities, supply-chain and distribution.

Embedded solution The ultra thin and flexible SmartFinger® Film sensor in combination with the efficient low resource embedded software algorithms allows IDEX® to offer a complete embedded biometric authentication solution for design into embedded applications. Personal fingerprint information never leaves the secure environment of a SmartFinger® enabled device. On-device or on-card fingerprint systems enable personal ID verification to be accomplished independent of online connections and centralized fingerprint databases, and utilizes existing infrastructure. Reference designs are available to customers upon request.

SoftwareThe biometric algorithms run on a separate microcontroller, performing the functions of real-time image reconstruction, feature extraction, and matching. The algorithms are highly optimized to minimize the requirements for processing capacity and memory (both RAM and flash). Everything is provided in relocatable library files that are independent of operating system, compiler and development environment.

Development kitsIDEX offers development kits and reference designs in order to enable simple design-in of the SmartFinger® Film technology into biometric authentication products and solutions. The PC development kit includes a USB based development module, demo software and a Software Development Kit (SDK). The embedded development kit includes a sensor module interfaced to a controller board, along with the biometric library and sample implementation.
