INTERNET OF THINGS (IOFT)
With the growth of the Internet of Things (IofT) and smart cities, everything from our mobile phone to lamp posts to traffic lights can now create vast amounts of data.
But, it is only with the correct analytical skills, joined up thinking and political will that this data can used to help solve our cities problems.
Town planners are one of the groups looking at how this information can be used effectively, in order to work smarter and add value to the decision making process.
URBANIZATION TRENDS
Urbanization trends will influence Smart City Development
needs from emerging deurbanized cities and corridors will
create new challenges and opportunities.
Branded Cities Western Hemisphere will face an increasing
trend of deurbanization creation of the historic center and
districts.
Suburbanization Urban Sprawl - highways and ring road,
network city with suburban areas and cities along the
highways created.
Emerging urban layouts will have a tremendous impact on
smart city development in the future, For example- the ring
road motorway, living areas growing outside the ring road as
seen in London, Chennai, Delhi etc.

URBAN FUTURE
Most urban futurologists say that more than 90% of the world population growth will be in developing countries, and that urban poverty will be the fastest growing trend in the world.
They also say that the disparity between the poor and the rich will continue to increase. But is a great task for the developing countries to accommodate the poor people in urban development.

URBAN INDIA
Working population is the driving factor in growing urban population by more than 1.23 times by 2020 i.e. 465 Million which is 35% percent of total population and is the largest youth workforce in India’s Urbanization Opportunities by 2020.
Smart City Attributes Government is trying to address the urban problems by investing in smart city initiatives. The Ministry of Urban Development under Central Government is the governing body for all smart city related work Smart Environment, Smart Transportation, Smart Energy, Smart Health, Smart Education, Smart Buildings, Smart IT & Communication, and Smart Governance.
Multiple foreign countries are looking forward to invest and participate in the development of smart cities in India.

CHIEF MINISTER OF ANDHRA PRADESH INDIA CALLS
FOR COOPERATION FOR SMART COMMUNITY
DR. Razak SPAV
WHAT IS A COMMUNITY
It is groups of People – homogeneous/ heterogeneous social and economic character – physical proximity –geographical area
It is Place - location
It is Sentiments – we feeling neighbourliness – relationships –reciprocity – dependency
DR. Razak SPAV
WHAT IS A NEIGHBOURHOOD
It is houses – buildings and people
Buildings – utilities and services such as water, sanitation, electricity, telecommunication,
Buildings - community facilities such as roads, health, education, shopping, open spaces, community halls
It is People with wants and needs – individuals, families, specific groups such as children, youth, women, elders, differently able, visitors etc.
It is natural areas with plants, animals, insects etc.
It is many other things under the roads such a pipes carry water, sewer, drain water, power etc.
DR. Razak SPAV
WHAT MAKES A COMMUNITY
SMART
The question that merits an answer is what makes a community smart
It is the wisdom to make community collective and make collective decision at the crucial moment, and knowing how to make the best out of the bad situation.
Maybe it is the ability of the community to take as many aspects as possible into consideration before deciding on the future course of action.
Of course, if the community is smart and successful, it is hard to pinpoint what exactly is responsible for that community success and wellbeing.
Truth be told, it is far easier to notice what these smart community don’t do, and arrive to a conclusion as to what is to be avoided.
As long as the community circumvent the negative things, the rest will come naturally.
DR. Razak SPAV
WHAT MAKES A NEIGHBOURHOOD
SMART
Make the Houses into “HOMES”
Raise Green Plants and Reuse water and food waste -Home waste could be food for nature.
Build Communities - Collectives- children, youth, elderly, women and special groups
Build Residents Welfare Associations (RWA)
Work with local knowledge – Neighbourhood Resource Centre – experts and specialists at your work at the same time be resource persons to take part in raise awareness and build knowledge among your neighbours

6 WAYS TO MAKE PEOPLE SMART
Focus on people around you
Open to learning
Questioning
Look for New things
Consider the knowledge you lack
Open mind and eye
DR. Razak SPAV
1.FOCUS LESS ON
YOURSELF AND MORE ON
THE PEOPLE AROUND YOU
Many people go through life thinking mostly about themselves.
Sure, there are truly altruistic people, but most are relatively
self-centered.
Smart people understand that it's the people around you that
generate support and opportunities, provided you show them
your capacity to make it about them.
In any given situation, listen first and consider how you can
improve the lives of those in your purview.
DR. Razak SPAV
2. CONSIDER YOURSELF THE
LEAST INFORMED IN THE
ROOM.
When you walk into the room thinking you are the smartest, your mind is closed to infinite possibilities.
Smart people love to position themselves as ignorant. That way they are open to the learning adventure ahead.
If you start by thinking that you don't have the right answers, in the best case you'll gain the truth and in the worst case you'll verify your accuracy.
DR. Razak SPAV
3.ALWAYS BE QUESTIONING
Many people think they can show their smartness by providing answers all the time.
Smart people know that people can truly assess your intelligence by the questions you ask.
DR. Razak SPAV
4.LOOK FOR SOMETHING NEW EVERY
DAY
It's easy to stagnate and get into a rut thinking you have seen it all before
Smart people know that the world is way too large and too complex to master in a single lifetime
Just the act of looking for one new thing to learn each day will increase your sensitivity to all that you never before considered.
DR. Razak SPAV
5.CONCENTRATE ON THE
KNOWLEDGE YOU LACK INSTEAD
OF THE KNOWLEDGE YOU HAVE
Often people lack the nuance that means the difference between competence and brilliance.
Smart people see any obtained knowledge merely as a bridge to learning even more.
They know the learning process is a never-ending journey to be enjoyed over a lifetime.
DR. Razak SPAV
6.EXPLORE THE ORIGIN OF
EVERYTHING
Everything, no matter how simple, has a most
wondrous story.
Smart people find fascination in the most mundane
of items and industries.
Explore the world with open eyes and you'll gain
useful knowledge from the most surprising places.

URBAN CHALLENGES
The challenges for urban poverty –from pollution to crime are not negotiable. Many cities are finding successful solutions.
The concept-“SMART CITIES” in the West recognize the importance of (a) good governance, (b) basic services for all, (c) Technology, and (d) streets and public open spaces where women and children feel safe.
Also recognize that better cities can help to (a) mitigate global challenges such as climate change, and (b) by promoting energy conservation and environmental sustainability.
URBAN PLANNING
PLANNING
PLAN means FUTURE
PLANNING for PEOPLE "Planning" of settlements means the scientific,
aesthetic, and orderly disposition of land, resources, facilities and services with a view
to securing the physical, economic and social efficiency, health and well-being of urban and rural communities.
PLANNING
Planning (also called forethought) is the process of thinking about and organizing the activities required to achieve a desired goal.
Planning combines forecasting of developments with the preparation of scenarios of how to react to them.
Forecasting can be described as predicting what the future will look like, whereas planning predicts what the future should look like.
ARCHITECTURE
Architecture has to do with planning, designing and constructing form, space and
ambience
to reflect functional, technical, social, cultural, environmental and aesthetic considerations.
A general term to describe buildings and other physical structures
is both the process and the product of planning, designing, and constructing buildings and other physical structures
DESIGN
the creation of a plan or convention for the construction of an object or a system architectural blueprints, engineering drawings,
business processes, circuit diagrams and sewing patterns.
Design has different connotations in different fields. It is construction of an object pottery, engineering, management, cowboy coding and
graphic design, indstrial design, research design etc.
HOUSE
A house is a building simple dwellings ranging from rudimentary huts of nomadic
tribes
complex structures composed of many systems.
The social unit that lives in a house is known as a household.
Most commonly, a household is a family unit of some kind, although households may also be other social groups or individuals
HOME
A home is generally a place that is close to the heart of the owner, and can become a prized possession.
Psychologically -- The strongest sense of home commonly coincides geographically with a dwelling
Popular sayings – Home "a man's home is his castle",
"there is no place like home",
"to be at home",
"make yourself at home",
"home is where the heart is" and
"home is where you hang your hat".
A SMART HOME
When you're not home, nagging little doubts can start to crowd your mind. Did I turn the coffee maker off? Did I set the security alarm? Are the kids doing their homework or watching television?
With a smart home, you could quiet all of these worries with a quick glance at your smartphone or tablet. You could connect the devices and appliances in your home so they can communicate with each other and with you.
A SMART HOME/HOUSE
The Internet of Things is a phrase that refers to the objects and products that are interconnected and identifiable through digital networks.
This web-like sprawl of products is getting bigger and better every day. All of the electronics in your home are fair game for this tech revolution, from your fridge to your furnace.
HOME AUTOMATION
What if all the devices in your life could connect to the internet? Not just computers and smartphones, but everything: clocks, speakers, lights, door bells, cameras, windows, window blinds, hot water heaters, appliances, cooking utensils, you name it.
And what if those devices could all communicate, send you information, and take your commands? It's not science fiction; it's the Internet of Things (IoT), and it's a key component of home automation and smart homes.
APPLICATIONS AND TECHNOLOGIES
Heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC): it is possible to have remote control of all home energy monitors over the internet incorporating a simple and friendly user interface.
Lighting control system
Occupancy-aware control system: it is possible to sense the occupancy of the home using smart meters and environmental sensors like CO2 sensors, which can be integrated into the building automation system to trigger automatic responses for energy efficiency and building comfort applications.
Appliance control and integration with the smart grid and a smart meter, taking advantage, for instance, of high solar panel output in the middle of the day to run washing machines.
Security: a household security system integrated with a home automation system can provide additional services such as remote surveillance of security cameras over the Internet, or central locking of all perimeter doors and windows.
Leak detection, smoke and CO detectors
Indoor positioning systems
Home automation for the elderly and disabled
Pet Care, for example tracking the pets movements and controlling access rights
