The Forum Digital City is a joint event of virtualcitySYSTEMS GmbH and CADFEM GmbH. Both companies are 100% part of CADFEM Group. We develop smart city solutions towards a “digital twin” of cities, urban districts and buildings based on many years of experience in the field of geoinformatics (virtualcitySYSTEMS) and numerical simulation of physical behavior (CADFEM). The “digital twin” based on CityGML (existing buildings), BIM (new buildings) and OpenDRIVE (road space) makes it possible to plan new projects, monitor construction and lifecycle processes, to investigate what-if scenarios and to find sustainable solutions for the complex urban challenges of our time.
The Forum brings together an international group of specia-lists, pioneers, researches and planers, from business and municipalities. They share their experiences and challeges, exchange innovative ideas and discuss solutions for the City of the Future.

7TH FORUM DIGITAL CITYSMART 3D CITY MODELS FOR PLANNING, ANALYSIS AND SIMULATION
CityGML
“CityGML is an open standardized data model and exchange for-
mat to store digital 3D models of cities and landscapes. It defines
ways to describe most of the common 3D features and objects
found in cities and the relationships between them. It also defines
different standard levels of detail (LoDs) for the 3D objects, which
allows the representation of objects for different applications
and purposes, such as simulations, urban data mining, facility
management, and thematic inquiries.” (Source: Wikipedia)
OpenDRIVE
“OpenDRIVE is an open format specification to describe a road
network‘s logic. Its objective is to standardize the logical road
description to facilitate the data exchange between different
driving simulators. They do not describe the entities acting on or
interacting with the road.” (Source: Wikipedia)
BIM
“BIM involves representing a design as combinations of „objects“
– vague and undefined, generic or product-specific, solid shapes
or void-space oriented (like the shape of a room), that carry
their geometry, relations and attributes. BIM design tools allow
extrac tion of different views from a building model for drawing
production and other uses. These different views are automati-
cally consistent, being based on a single definition of each object
instance.” (Source: Wikipedia)
AGENDA
WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 10, 2018
Innovations based on 3D-Geodatainfrastructure (3D-GDI)
3D-GDI – Research and InnovationRepresentatives from universities, research institu-tions, and virtualcitySYSTEMS present their research priorities and discuss the latest developments of 3D technologies.
3D-GDI – Future-oriented ApplicationsUsers get the possibility to share their experiences and challenges. They are invited to exchange innovati-ve ideas and discuss their strategic roadmap towards their individual goals.
At the end of the first day of the Forum, all participants enjoy good food and relaxed music in the exhibition. There are plenty of opportunities to continue networ-king and technical discussions.

Various Facets of Urban Simulation
Urban SimulationOn Thursday, the forum offers developers from various areas of simulation the opportunity to exchange ideas. One focus will be on the new groundbreaking ANSYS Discovery Live. A new software tool that supports the design process by instantaneous simulations results even for urban areas. In combination with our city model interface a new cloud-based solution called Urban Discovery Cloud will be presented.
Building Models & City ModelsThe boarders between building information modeling (BIM) and city information modeling (CIM) vanish. Interface solutions between both domains are appe-aring and will be presented. Modern simulation ap-plications request the link between planning models and existing buildings in the urban surrounding. This requires seamless processes and individual model integration. Detailed building models are converted into a simulation model in just a few steps and are available for any simulation application from the interior to the urban environment.
Mobility & AutomotiveInnovative mobility solutions like the developments in autonomous driving (AD) and advanced driver assistant systems (ADAS) urgently require integrated solutions for virtual modeling, testing and simulati-on. This becomes reality by linking semantic 3D city models with detailed road space models in the open standards CityGML and OpenDRIVE.
This will be followed by the closing plenary session of the 36th CADFEM ANSYS Simulation Conference and the evening event in the Moritzbastei in the city center of Leipzig.
