Power Patrol!Power Patrol!Start a Classroom
Encourage your students to celebrate Earth Day, Every Day with help from the Power in EnergySM program. How? Create your own classroom Power Patrol! It’s a fun and easy way to teach your students about saving energy at school and at home.
The Mission:Deputize your students to find ways to help your classroom save energy and teach your school how to go green!
The Tasks:First download your Power Patrol Badges at
http://bit.ly/gsjjtA. Then pass one out to every
student in your class and assign one student to be your
classroom’s Power Patrol Monitor. Let this student
lead your class to:
• Make sure the classroom lights are turned off
when the room is empty.
• Turn off computers at the end of the day.
• Close all windows to prevent drafts.
• Recycle paper and other materials.
• Make sure that the classroom sink faucet
is turned all the way off.
You can change your Power Patrol Monitor daily,
weekly, or monthly. Feel free to add, change,
or update the checklist!
Questions about the Power Patrol? Contact your Power in EnergySM State Coordinator for help or to discuss a schoolor classroom visit!

The Prize:Your students will have a clear effect on your power consumption—
saving your school money and helping the earth! Also consider turning
your attention to helping your entire school.
Celebrate Earth Day by reminding your students to mail in their Home Energy Survey (or fill it out online with their families at www.powerinenergysurvey com). It’s the best way to put the energy-saving tips they learned in the classroom to use!
