Have Your Say about Providing Care Closer to Home in SomersetHealth and care services in Somerset are running an engagement programme to gather feedback from local people about providing care closer to home. Health and care services in Somerset aim to support people to live independent, healthier lives by having the right services in the right place for their needs, available at the right time and delivered by the right people. The engagement programme runs until 12 April 2020. Everyone who lives and works in Somerset is invited to join in, think about and help shape a new way of providing services which is, where practical, closer to where they live, supports independence and maintains health. Everyone’s input, ideas and suggestions are vital to helping them make sure that we have the right services in the right place. The engagement document shares with everyone the reasons why current services need to change and the challenges faced in continuing to run them. Using all the feedback received, a number of ways that health and care services could be delivered differently will be developed. There will be public consultation about these potential options in the future. Health and care services would like to know what you think about their ideas so far and get your feedback. You can read the full engagement document on their website at www.fitformyfuture.org.uk or contact them by email [email protected] or telephone 01935 384119.

Bishops Hull Hub – For the Community, By the CommunityUpdate from the Bishops Hull Hub Fundraising team:
We had a great turn out at our Quiz at the end of January, a full house of 11 teams, and made £450 profit. Our next quiz will be Friday 1st May so put it in your diary and watch this space for further details. We also had a wonderful turnout at the Harry-Potter inspired woodland trail and cafe on 8th February, making another £350. The kids did a tree-identification trail around Netherclay Woodland and returned to the church hall to decorate wands. A special thank you to the Friends of Netherclay woods and Tilda Gibbs for your help in creating so much magic.
Our next Hub Cafe is on 14th March 10am-12noon and is a Cycle Cafe. Bring your bike along if you would like to have a basic service (for a donation) and there will be local cycle interest groups too.
On Saturday 11th April we will host our annual Easter Egg Hunt on the playing field from 10am - 12 noon. There will be the cafe and raffle in the hall. All ages welcome!
Parish Council NewsAt the January meeting the following resolutions were made:• Following a change of Council Tax Base rate at SW&T Members agreed a revised Precept Request of £26,294.48. • Members agreed to pay the Clerks increased pension contributions, after being added to the Local Government Scheme.• Bishops Hull Parish Council offer to take out an agreement of a loan up to the maximum of £80,000 in the event of there being a shortfall in the amount raised to cover the construction of the Bishops Hull HUB.
The next meeting of the Parish Council is on Thursday 12th March at 7.00pm in the Church Hall.
Did you know about the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Lanyard Scheme?Upon leaving a council meeting in Taunton recently, I ‘bumped into’ my friends from My Day, who are an outcome-based support service for Adults with Learning Difficulties, based here in Bishop’s Hull. My Day staff members, James and Wayne were keen to draw my attention to the green Lanyards, decorated with bright yellow Sunflowers, being worn by their students and they were in town promoting the lanyards to retailers and the public. So, what is the significance of these Lanyards? Not all disabilities are visible – some are not immediately obvious, such as autism, chronic pain, dementia, anxiety, visual or hearing impairment. Living with a hidden disability can make daily life more demanding for many people, but it can be difficult for others to recognise, acknowledge or understand the challenges you face.
Wearing the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Lanyard discreetly indicates to people around you including staff, colleagues and health professionals that you may need additional support, help or a little more time.
Back in 2016 staff at London Gatwick Airport asked “How can we recognise that one of our passengers may have a non-obvious disability?”. The solution was to create a lanyard with a simple sunflower design on a green background. It was intended to be a subtle but visible sign enabling airport staff to recognise that the wearer (or someone with them) may require some extra help, time or assistance when moving through the airport, thus the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Lanyard was born.
To view a video from my meeting with My Day, please visit Facebook.com/JohnHuntIndependent or search on YouTube for ‘John Hunt Taunton Sunflower’
Lanyards, are available free of charge from Tesco in Castle Street.
