Language Profi ciency TestsInternational language profi ciency tests are available for most of the second language pro-grams taught in Alberta. Many of these tests stem from the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). A set of common language profi ciency descriptors adopted by the coun-tries of the council of Europe, the CEFR is organized into six reference levels. It describes what a learner should be able to do in reading, listening, speaking and writing at each level – A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 and C2.

Based on the common reference levels, countries develop specifi c language profi ciency mea-surement tools. For example, Spain off ers the Diplomas de Español como Lengua Extran-jera (DELE), Germany the Deutsches Sprachdiplom, and France has developed the Diplôme d’études en langue française (DELF) for levels A1 through B2 and the Diplôme approfondi de langue française (DALF) for levels C1 and C2.

For more information on specifi c language profi ciency tests, visit these links: Chinese language tests: http://www.confuciusedmonton.ca/chinese-language-tests.html
