At 1935 Mr. Vecihi HÜRKUŞ and two Russian instructor pilot were organize the first course with US-4 and PS-2 model 4 Russian glider at Ankara/Ergazi. The course was had 20 student and one of them was Sabiha GÖKÇEN and they get "A" and "B" certificate.

After that course 7 student was traninedat "Koktabel Glider High School"

How it begin?

During the course they understand that the Ergazi Airfield was not suitable for glider training.

For advanced courses they need to find more suitable places so they begin to look for.

At the end they find İnönü (35 km. west of Eskişehir) at 10th July 1936 then "İnönüHigh Gliding Camp" was establihed.

How it begin?

At 1937 first course was given to Air Force Academy. Then that course was go on until 1947 as "Noncommissioned Officer Prep Course".

Later on besides military courses civil courses was organized.

How it begin?

At 1938 Turkish flight time record was

18 hour 35 minutes.

At 1937 the altitude record was 4200 m.

that is renewed with 7300 m. at 1993.

How it begin?

Later on the target was changed to cross-country.

At 1964 they had fly between İnönü-Eskişehir Karahöyük 61 km. then many flights realized. At 1998 free distance was İnönü-Tomarza (Kayseri) 522 km. and that is the record.

Eskişehir Bus Station there is coach services

in each hour from 08:00 to 19:00.

İnönü Training Center is located 1 km. west of İnönü town and had two runway, 34-16 has 900 m. and 29-11 has 1200 m. long grass runways.There is a Control Tower, AdministerativeOfises, Hangar, Dining Hall, Canteen,Student dormitory and Flats.

Inonu airfield has a very good atmosphere for gliding sport. It has generally North wind from the begining of the May to end of September.So the hills,which are situated at the south of the airfield,take the north wind and so you can fly as much as you want by means of using ridge soaring techniques.Especially when you fly for training flights with your student pilots,and there is no thermal activities you can fly all the lesson by using ridge techniques easily.

We fly towards South-East of the Inonu,especially Afyon and Aksehir,because north side of the airfield has no good thermal activity and sea breeze effects thermal activities in bad way. west side of Inonu is a mountainous region,so it can be dangerous for performance soaring,for this reason we prefer to fly,especially performance flights,towards South-East of the region. Mr.Metin Ozbey flew a 652 kms.performance flight in 2009 and it is Turkey record for performance flight in Turkish Gliding History.
