  • SK180 Chamber Installation Guideline

    Uponarrivaltotheprojectsite,visuallyinspectthechamberstoensureaccuratequantities.Anydamagethatmayhaveoccurredduringtransportshouldalsobenotedatthistime.

    Forefficientshippingandtoalloweaseinhandlingandstorage,thechambersarestackedneatlyuponthemselvesandsecuredtoapallet.Unloadingisbestaccomplishedviaforklift.

    Chambersshouldbestoredinanareathatisflatandfreeofdebris.Toavoidthepotentialfordamage,thisstorageareashouldbeisolatedwellawayfromthetravelingpathsusedforconstructionvehicletraffic.

    Usingtheprojectplansandtheappropriatedetails,excavatethechambersystembedinamannertosufficientlyaccommodatethechambersandmanifolds.Toensureanadequatefit,andtoallowforastoneborder,anadditional12ofexcavationisrequiredbetweenthetrenchsidewallsandthechambersystem.

    Ifstandingwaterispresent,dewateringmeasuresshouldbeutilized.

    Ifasoft,unstablefoundationisencountered,itshouldbeoverexcavatedandreplacedwithasuitablematerialasdeterminedbytheprojectengineer.

    Uponthepreparedfoundation,placea4oz.nonwovenfabriconthebedbottomandupandalongthesidewalls.Maintaina24overlapoffabricatallseams.

    Usingtheprojectplansandappropriatedetails,providealevelbaseof-2cleancrushedangularstoneovertheentiretrenchbedbottom.Foundationstonedepthasindicatedontheprojectplans(minimum9).See Fig-ure 1.Usingavibratoryroller,compactthestonebasetoachieveaflatlevelsurface.

    Ifspecifiedontheprojectplans,theperimeterunderdrainpipingmaybelaidatthispoint.

    Priortoinstallationofthechambersystem,adequateattentiontothefollowingguidelinesisrequired.Inaddition,thechambersupplier,chamberinstaller(sitecontractor)andthedesignengineermaymeetforapre-constructionmeetingtodiscussanyquestionsrelatingtotheinstallationprocess,andtheguidelinesherein.

    Anybackfillwhichprovidesadequatesubgradefortheprojectpertheengineersplans.Plansshallindicatesubgraderequirements.

    Well graded granular material,

  • Usingtheprojectplansandappropriatedetails,fullyassemblethemanifoldsystem.

    Toalleviatethepotentialforscourattheinletlocations,laya15widestripofwovengeotextile,alongtheentirelengthofthemanifoldmainline,adequatelycarpetingthebeddingbeneaththeinletlocations.See Figure 2&3.

    Positionthefirstchamberandendcapofeachrowwiththeinletpipes.Atthedesignatedlocations,coreanopeningintheendcapandinserttheinletpipe.Theinletpipesshouldpenetrate12intotheendcap.Repeatthisprocessforeachrow.

    Maintainingan8minimumclearspacebetweeneachrowisrequired.Theassem-blyofeachrowisachievedbyovertoppingthelastriboftheinitialchamberwiththefirstribofthesucceedingchamber.Overlaplocationsarelabeledoneachchamber.Rowassemblyshouldnotexceedthereachofthebackfillplacementequipment.Thefinalchamberofeachrowshallalsobeequippedwithanendcap.

    Endcapsareplacedwiththeendcapoverlappingthetopofthereducedsizejoiningcorrugation.Theendcapshouldbeheldinplacebyscrewsduringbackfilloperations.

    Backfillmaterialusedforembedment/anchoringandforsurroundingareaswillbe-2particlesize,clean,crushedangularstone.

    Placementofbackfillmaterialforembedmentandsurroundingareasisbestaccomplishedbyusingthelongreachofanexcavatororstoneshooter/conveyorsystem.No construction equipment shall be situated atop of the chamber system.

    Inordertopreventchambershiftingandtomaintainrowspacing,carefullydepositthestoneevenlyalongthecenterlineofthechamber,allowingthestonedepthbetweentherowstoriseequally.Duringthisphase,stoneheightbetweenrowsshouldnotdifferbymorethan12atanytime.

    Aftertheanchoringphaseiscomplete,stoneplacementmaycontinuetosurroundthechambersandaroundtheperimeter.Stoneshouldcoverthetopofthechambercrowntoaminimumheightof11.5.

    Smalllightweighttrackeddozerswithgroundpressurelessthan1100lbs/sfmaybeusedatthispointtofinalizethegradingofcoverstone.Stonemustbepushedparalleltorowsatalltimes.Wheel and Roller Loads Not Allowed.

    Covertheentiretopofthestonebedwithalayerof4oz.nonwovenfabric.Overlapallseams24.Utilizingexcavatorpositionedoffbed,placeinitialbackfill.Begincompactionat24.Rollertotravelparallelwithrows.Note: See Figure 5 and Table 1
