Reflection:

I grew up in an attitude of "Be prepared," made popularized by the

Boy Scout Organization in my younger years. But this was not new,

since Jesus himself in our gospel have constantly invited us to be pre-

pared, to be watchful, to be ready. The invitation can refer to any situa-

tion in which people should be ready to accept the Word of God. The

immediate application of being watchful during the time of Christ was

Jesus' return at the end of the world. The disciples then believed that

the second coming of Jesus was imminent. Jesus had gone to prepare

the heavenly banquet and would come back to bring them there.

To be prepared, to be watchful, to be ready, means Jesus expects from

us today our readiness to welcome Him in our lives. To be prepared is

to be present to Him. To be prepared is to be ready to encounter Him

even in unfamiliar ways. It is to recognize His presence in our midst.

This is the invitation for all of us, to continue searching for God, finding

Him in everything and every time but most of all is to be found by HIM.

The Lord still knocks at our heart everyday in our lives. Allow Jesus to

enter into our lives.

SPECIAL MESSAGE AND THANK YOU Dear Parents and Guardians, Thank you to the many people who contributed to the beautiful Celebration of Life - Memorial Mass for our Beloved Sister Judith Abique, SPC. and to everyone who were able to attend this special celebration. We thank our Pastor, Father Efren, and Parochial Vicars, Father Eric and Father Anton, Deacon Keith, and our guest priest Father Gus. We thank the faculty, school and parish staff, students, parents, SJPS alumni, Knights of the Altar, parishioners, and so many oth-ers who have all contributed to this celebration. In my two visits to see Sr. Judith, in Cebu, she continually expressed her overwhelming appreciation for the prayers of many people, their love, generosity, and ongoing support of her mission while at St. Joseph and during her challenging health journey. She stated, “I fix my gaze on God who keeps me as His Beloved Daughter. My new mission, is to pray for those in the world, doing active work for the Lord." The Abique family of Sister Judith, are also forever grateful for your love and kindness to Sister Judith and to their family. We also thank the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Paul of Chartres, for accepting this foreign mission at St. Joseph and for sending Sr. Judith to be a Religious Education Director and Vice Principal for seven years.

At this time, please allow me to share some final thoughts. There are so many things one could share about Sr. Judith, but the one I chose to highlight is that Sister Judith was a true humble servant of God. From the moment Sister Judith arrived at St. Joseph, until her return to the Philippines, Sister modeled the quote from St. Francis:

“Preach the Gospel at all times, and if necessary use words.”

In everything Sister Judith did, it was evident that she was dedicated to living out the mission of Jesus Christ. Sister’s radiant smile no matter what the circumstances of each day, was evidence of her joyful heart in humbly serving God, with the love and passion to do everything for God’s glory and never for herself. That humility was part of who Sister Judith was. Whenever any-one complimented her work, she would always say, “It is not me, it is the grace of God, and it is He and the Holy Spirit at work.” Sister deepened our understanding of what it meant to be a missionary, to leave your home to accept a foreign mission and with faith, courage, and a deep love to serve God. She shared, we can have the knowledge of our faith and what we must do, but we must also have the heart and belief to do it, and the hands to willingly, lovingly, and prayerfully do God’s work. If you truly are Jesus’ disciples, you are never going to be alone in doing God’s mission, especially when you may not understand God’s will. I believe Sr. Judith would share with us the following: To my dearest family and friends, some things I’d like to say...

But first of all, to let you know that I arrived okay. I’m writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above. Here, there’s no more tears of sadness. Here is just eternal love. Please do not be unhappy, just because I am out of sight. Remember that I am with you every morning, noon and night. That day I had to leave you, when my life on earth was through, God picked me up and hugged me and He said, “I welcome you. It’s good to have you back again, you were missed while you were gone. I need you here badly, you’re part of my plan. There’s so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.” God gave me a list of things that he wished for me to do. And foremost on the list was to watch and care for you. And when you lie in bed at night, the day’s chores put to flight, God and I are closest to you in the middle of the night. When I think of my life on earth, and all those loving years because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears. But do not be afraid to cry, it does relieve pain. Remem-ber there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain. I wish I could tell you all that God had planned. If I were to tell you, you wouldn’t understand. But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is over, I’m closer to you now, than I ever was before. There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb. But together we can do it by taking one day at a time. It was always my philosophy and I’d like it for you too, that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you. If you can help somebody who’s in sorrow and pain then you can say to God at night, “My night was not in vain. ”And now I am contented that my life was worthwhile. Knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile. So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low, just lend a hand to pick him up as on your way you go. When you’re walking down the street and you’ve got me on your mind, I’m walking in your footsteps only half a step behind. And when it’s time for you to go from that body to be free, remember you’re not going, you’re coming here to me. (From Daily Blessings) We love you Sister Judith; We thank you and we thank God, for you will forever be a blessing, a gift, and an inspiration in our

lives. You will always have a special place in our prayers and in our hearts, until we meet again.

With love and gratitude in Jesus and Mary, Ms. Beverly Sandobal

Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship

Catholics Care. Catholics Vote.

"We need to participate for the common good. Sometimes we hear: a good Catholic is not inter-ested in politics. This is not true: good Catholics

immerse themselves in politics by offering the best of themselves so that the leader can govern."

- Pope Francis, 9/16/13

The Catholic bishops of the United States are pleased to offer once again to the

Catholic faithful Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship (en Español), our teaching document on the political

responsibility of Catholics. This statement represents our guidance for Catholics in the exercise of their rights

and duties as participants in our democracy. We urge our pastors, lay and religious faithful, and all people of good will to use this statement to help form

their consciences; to teach those entrusted to their care; to contribute to civil and respectful public dialogue; and to shape political choices in the coming

election in light of Catholic teaching. The statement lifts up our dual heritage as both faithful Catholics and American

citizens with rights and duties as participants in the civil order.
