Technical Support — 800.523.9466

OverviewThis document describes the process to update firmware in Sivoia QED Roller 100 and Roller 225 drives to Rev 6D. The wiring and set up process described in this document can also be used to implement the Intelligent Hembar Alignment (IHA) field adjustment process.

Firmware Upgrade

This firmware update process is utilized to enhance drive performance, resolving issues found in some drives produced prior to the Rev 6D firmware implementation. This process will not affect the previous user programming; device addresses, open and close limits, device assignments or presets.

The process requires a software application available online at myLutron Software and Support page. A SerialGear USB to Optical isolated RS-422/485 Industrial Adapter (p/n: USB-COMi-SI-M) is also required to communicate and transfer the update from a laptop to the Roller 100/225 drive. This is available from online suppliers such as serialgear.com and amazon.com.

Intelligent Hembar Alignment (IHA)

This hardware and wiring set up using the USB-COMi-SI-M used for the upgrade process is also used to implement the Intelligent Hembar Alignment (IHA) field adjustment process for Sivoia QED drives, in lieu of the SVQ-IHA-KIT described in step 1.2 in IHA user guide (045-327) that can be found on myLutron on the Software and Support page website at the following link:

http://www.lutron.com/PasswordProtectedDocumentLibrary/IHA user guide instructions.pdf

Even though the hardware and set up is the same, the software for the IHA process is different than the software used for the firmware upgrade. The IHA software is available at myLutron.com

USB-COMi-SI-M - SerialGear USB to Optical isolated RS-422/485 Industrial Adapter (available from online suppliers such as serialgear.com and amazon.com)

 USB Cable - A-Male to B-Male (Included with USB-COMi-SI-M)

 PC Laptop

2 Software Installationa. Click the "Download QED R100 Flash Tool" link at the location indicated in section 1.1. to download and install

the QED R100 Flash tool software.

b. Install the appropriate drivers for the USB-COMi-SI-M adapter from the included CD or from the location indicated in section 1.1.

3 Connecting the USB-COMi-SI-M Adapter and LaptopFor the laptop to communicate with Sivoia QED drives, it must be connected to the adapter via the USB cable. The adapter must be connected to the Sivoia QED communication link via three conductors. The USB cable provides the power to the adapter from the USB port of the laptop.

There are two wiring topologies described in this document; one in which a SVQ-10-PNL 10-output power panel is used (see the diagram on page 3), and one with individual transformers (see the diagram on page 4).

Before wiring the adapter into the system, verify the following:

a. All shades are properly wired and addressed

b. Any/all of the following interfaces on the communication link are UNPLUGGED

› HWI-SV

› SG-SVC

› SO-SVC

› RA-SVC

c. The DIP switches on the USB-COMi-SI-M adapter are in the following positions

› 1 and 2 - Off (Down position)

› 3 and 4 - On (Up position)

6 Firmware Upgrade Using the QED R100 Flash Tool Softwarea. With the laptop connected as indicated in wiring diagrams in section 4 or 5 , launch Windows Device Manager

[Start > Control Panel > Device Manager].

b. Expand the Ports (COM &LPT) list and identify the COM port to which the USB-COMi-SI-M USB adapter has been assigned. In the example below, the adapter, identified as "USB Serial Port" is assigned to COM4:

c. Verify the correct port by unplugging the USB cable from the laptop. If USB port is no longer listed after unplugging and then is listed again after plugging back in, this is the port number that will be used in the flash tool software. If USB port is not listed, install or re0install USB-COMi-SI-M USB adapter driver as indicated in section 3 .

6 Firmware Upgrade Using the QED R100 Flash Tool Software (continued)d. Launch the QED R100 Flash Tool software installed in section 3 .

e. Enter or choose the port number identified in the previous steps in the COMM Port: field under Connect to PC.

f. Click the Connect button.

g. Click on the Run Test button. The system will be queried to find all the devices on the network and will return the quantity of each found. In the example below 2 Roller 100/225s and 2 Keypads/CCIs were found:

› If the number returned does not match the number of units expected, check the communication and power wiring to those devices. Click Run Test again.

› If number still doesn’t match, proceed to step 5 of this section. The flashing process will send the update to all drives communicating on the link. The lack of LED feedback on the drives during this process will indicate which drives are not receiving the update. Those can then be inspected more closely for wiring and communication issues.

6 Firmware Upgrade Using the QED R100 Flash Tool Software (continued)h. Click on the Flash Roller 100/225s With Code Rev 6D button and confirm you want to proceed with the flash

process

› The LED’s on the Sivoia QED Roller 100/225’s drives will begin to blink orange for several seconds then turns on to steady orange. This condition will continue for several minutes. The LED’s will blink orange a few times as the process is completing. Progress can be monitored on the blue progress status bar under the Flash Roller 100/225s With Code Rev 6D button.

› The LED’s on the drive will turn off when the process is complete. At which time you will be prompted to click the OK button in the pop up window, acknowledging Flashing is Complete.

NOTE: The Keypads, CCI’s, Roller 64’s or Draperies on the communication link will not be affected by the update process

› If the orange LED on a drive is blinking or on steady after the process is complete on the rest of the drives, power cycle the drive to reset the LED status to off.

› This firmware update process will not affect the limits, assignments or addresses of the drives

7 Using the Shade Adjust FeaturesThe Shade Adjust features are not required for the firmware update process. They provide a convenient way to identify, control, verify, and set limits on all the shades on the communication link. To use these functions, you must be connected and have the ability to communicate with the shades. This process is the same as the wiring and connection process described in sections 4 and 5 .

The top menu under Shade Adjust provides the option to select individual shades or all shades. Once the shade(s) are selected, the following functions can be applied:

8 Using the IHA Tool Software for Intelligent Hembar Alignment (IHA) on Sivoia QEDThe USB-COMi-SI-M adapter and wiring diagrams shown in sections 4 and 5 are also used in the process of making field IHA adjustments on Sivoia QED drives. This may be necessary to make minor adjustments to the rotational speed of the drive so the shades move at the same linear speed. In addition to the hardware set-up, the IHA Tool Software is required, and available by clicking on the "Download Custom IHA Software" link at the Technical Documentation and Support page at myLutron.com.

For guidance and troubleshooting support for the IHA software, refer to steps 4 and 5 in the IHA User guide. The User Guide is available by clicking on the "Download Custom IHA Tool Instructions (PDF)" link on the Technical Documentation and Support page at myLutron.com.

Select an individual shade, or all shades.

Positions the selected shade(s) at fully open (100%)Positions the selected shade(s) at the midpoint (50%)

Set the Open and Close limits of the selected shade. (Limit can be set on only one shade at a time.)

Initiates a repetitive up/down motion as a method of identifying the selected shade(s).

Used to position an individual shade within the boundaries of its current limits. NOTE: The direction of shade movement may be opposite the direction shown on the button, depending on which side the shade's drive is located.

Used to position an individual shade without the constraints of its current limits. NOTE: The direction of shade movement may be opposite the direction shown on the button, depending on which side the shade's drive is located.

CAUTION: This feature allows the shade drive to be run past the fabric panel's physical limits, which could permanently damage the shade.

Positions the selected shade(s) at fully closed (0%)
