2 New process architecture

The following architecture diagram shows the new process using the unified consumption experience and the Landscape Planner tool.

Figure 2: Flow of Landscape Planner and UCE.

1. You can use the Landscape Planner to simulate and generate a landscape plan. This can be validated and installed anytime later. For more information, see Planning Landscape Changes - a Best Practice Guide and SCN Documentation

2. The landscape plan number is imported to Maintenance Optimizer in SAP Solution Manager, to be used for the generation of the stack.xml and for relevant media download.

3. The stack.xml generated in Maintenance Optimizer and the media files are consumed by the tools of the Software Logistics Toolset, such as the Software Provisioning Manager (SWPM) and Software Update Manager (SUM).

4. SWPM consumes the generated stack.xml. SWPM in turn only shows the product version for which the new installation has been planned.

5. Standard post-installation activities need to be completed before you use SUM. For more information, see Post-Installation.

6. SUM consumes the same stack.xml to update the system with the selected service packs (SPs) or add-ons.

3 Planning installation of add-ons

Example

You plan to install SAP Liquidity Risk Management 1.1

Perform the following steps:

1. Go to the Product Availability Matrix at https://service.sap.com/pam

2. Search for the Product Version SAP Liquidity Risk Management 1.1

3. Check the required Product version for SAP Liquidity Risk Management 1.1, which is SAP NetWeaver 7.4

4. In Landscape Planner, plan a new installation by selecting the base product version (SAP NetWeaver 7.4) and then installing an add-on over it. You can find the add-on in the SAP Service Marketplace

3.1 Use Case: Planning an installation

You, as an IT architect / administrator want to use Landscape Planner to plan a new installation.

Landscape Planner provides the advantage of planning new installations before the actual implementation to the system. A simulation of planned changes could be performed and validated in the SAP backend system before the plan is released for further consumption.

The installation simulation process helps you define the target software level.

1. In the left panel, click the New Installation icon

Result: A pop up box is displayed, where you can choose your target installation.

2. Click Add a system under Target System

Result: The changes are now saved with landscape plan number, for later use.

The saved landscape plan is processed for finalization, wherein the plan is validated in the backend for further processing.

Once the landscape plan is validated, a confirmation message appears in the status bar indicating that you can proceed with the planned landscape changes. The landscape plan can now be downloaded and circulated for the approval process.

The landscape plan is generated in pdf format and has a unique number. It also includes information on the user who created the plan, planned activities, tools to be used, and the link to SAP Service Market Place to download the related media files. The download of this initial media is currently manual.

Note

The download link calculated for the initial media is not applicable for NW BW 7.30 and NW BW EHP1 for 7.30 running on SAP HANA

1. Go to the Change Management work center in SAP Solution Manager.

2. Based on the landscape ID, choose a landscape plan from the list.

3. Click Import from Landscape Plan button.

Result: The selected landscape plan is imported to the Maintenance Optimizer

With the imported landscape plan, the first steps of Maintenance Optimizer can be completed automatically. You can now generate the stack.xml file.

3.3 Consuming generated stack.xml and media files

Using the link provided in the Landscape Plan, download the installation media files and trigger the SWPM.

1. Download and extract the SWPM version from the Download Basket and follow the recommendations of SAP Note 1680045.

2. Start SWPM through the command sapinst SAPINST_INSTALL_STACK=<absolute path>
