Executive Summary

Mr Simon Osborne is an achiever at the most senior levels in industry. A compelling and engaging man, who commands gravitas and enormous respect for simplifying the most complex and difficult business initiatives. Adopting a non conventional out of the box approach to getting matters back on track.

I am looking for the right permanent opportunity, within a number of dynamic organisations. I should equally be well considered for that of a Relationship Director to involve myself at the core of problems. Identification of the RIGHT organisation is key and I expect that the role will figure personnel at its heart / customer engagement and strong efficiency principles in delivering well thought through business planning. I am looking to work on a multi faceted project basis where the opportunity provides ongoing challenges and variety. I want to join an organisation that is likely to require someone to resolve problems and bring chaotic matters to order,I would best suit an organisation where I can really make a difference and where there is genuine career advancement allowing me to be at the helm of steering committees never losing sight of and revisiting the business vision regularly. If a company has no business vision then I am a key lead on creating an achievable landscape and executing of the same.

Titles are not everything but status and financial reward are important for a proven business leader.

Page 3: SIMON OSBORNE FINAL CB

Within my working life my roles have been to look at the overall business and to see how an organisation can improve the overall business potential with the resources they have had. I have dealt with managing high level relationships both internally and externally. The operational nature of the positions that I have previously worked within have required me to work across the company, and I believe that I should be working within an organisation that is not maximising its potential resource and profitability. My expertise is to solidify engagement across the company and with external customers, stakeholders and where appropriate VC investment and financial backers. Within my working life I have taken every organisation with whom I have worked from disorder and inefficiency, to organised, lean and exceptionally productive and highly profitable businesses. Straight talking and no nonsense, I simplify process and have a get on and do it attitude. Whilst I am great listener and fair with everyone, I will not tolerate fools gladly and will be a frank and hands on leader. Nothing overpowers my capability of problem solving and I do this with great passion, a wicked sense of humour, and above all an innate ability to secure great working relations across the entire business. I have progressed throughout my career as a result of always building a network of strong internal and external contacts, and by possessing a strong intellect which allows me to deal with initiatives that were out of the ordinary and that no-one else in the organisation could deal with. I want to join a company that demonstrates integrity and openness in all that it does. I am open to a number of different areas and want as much visibility on business matters that will allow me to consult for the good of the business vision.

I have international knowledge and would be a willing participant to engage with the international business

community. My style of management is one of an iron fist in a velvet glove rather than in an aggressive and confrontational approach. I am particularly capable of managing complex situations in calm and process orientated manner. When all others are losing their heads and the pressure is firmly on to deliver, I lead and steer calmly through turbulent waters to communicate clearly and concisely the instruction to ensure project / business vision is delivered upon.

I am an individual highly qualified to advise organisations through difficult times but equally when a business is succeeding to look at new markets and ensure the next phase of business development is identified and implemented, embracing economic change. I am a trusted advisor in many business functions, where I will make decisions based upon precise facts and knowledge. I am a calculated risk taker, and my behavioural characteristics displayed within that of my psychometric tests are true testimony of what I am like as a genuine person.

I am an individual that firmly engages across all business functions, from the board room through to the shop floor. I am at my happiest when involved in making an immediate difference. I am a dedicated individual who evaluates details internally and externally for the better good of the company. I am best described as someone that makes a real impact with immediate effect and is absolutely focussed on completing every task in a timely and professional manner.

Page 4: SIMON OSBORNE FINAL CB

My career success to date clearly demonstrates great capability in influencing relationship management, and I have great capability in winning the heart and minds of both internal staff and stakeholders across many cultures. I operate in a level headed manner. I can be a very serious character on many business issues, unafraid to be direct and to the point. I can equally bring about energy and inject humour into complex situations where issues may be painfully difficult. Calm and caring, I have a unique and confident character that manages risks and problems, never faltering and never swaying too far from the vision and purpose. I will deliver in all that I do with absolute professionalism and deliver on time and within budget. This can do attitude is infectious and I will affect positivity across a wide number of organisations because of my enthusiasm and drive to improve and turn organisations around. I do not need to be an expert within a vertical market place, a wheel is still round whatever the colour, bells or whistles it may possess. This simple and refreshing concept to management applies equally to his management principles whether it be restructuring a business, redesigning operational management to sorting out the PR issues, I simplify chaos and win the hearts and minds of even the most sceptical and disorganised businesses easily. Give me a problem and not only will I provide the resolution, I will always have a Plan B.

I have a proven track record of business development, implementing performance improvement, client and employee engagement, organisational design, and relationship management being some of my greatest strengths. Although I am quick to point out that I am not a Sales Director, I have a great awareness of all internal departments and external stakeholders

strategic needs in order to operate a business successfully and allowing it to flourish.

As my testimonials clearly demonstrate, I have proven drive, commercial acumen, vision and initiative. I am a competent communicator that should be called upon for well researched and honest advice to key Stakeholders/Clients and the Executive Management team. I am a loyal individual to the end and will tell it as it is.

Key Skills but not limited to:

* Board Management * Operations Management * Sales and Business Development Management * Financial Management * Acquisitions * People Development * Business Planning and continued improvement * Business Acumen / Strategy * Contract Management * Supply Chain Management * Restructuring & Consolidating * Lean Management * Supplier / Price Negotiations * Asset Purchasing & Management * P&L, Budgeting, Cash flow * Reducing Costs * HR Matters

Page 5: SIMON OSBORNE FINAL CB

I will expect to engage in a full on understanding and overview of individual departmental needs. I will want to deal directly with all external clients and internal departments. I have great leadership ability and will mentor and coach where necessary. I want to ensure the entire team buy in to the business/project vision, including that of the Executive Management team, all of whom are involved in the success of the overall business. I have all round communication skills and am capable of operating from board level right to the despatch door of the organisation and am easily able to transition from one environment to the next.

Within my career I have delivered unpopular messages, and am unafraid to make business critical decisions. I am compassionate and caring, but will take on the least popular business issues and turn matters around. I have great ability to communicate tasks clearly at all levels with external clients and potential clients to identify potential business blockers and identify solutions in a timely manner.

I believe I am a true diplomat and a consensus builder where required. I have many qualities that allow me to gain the support and catalyse the input of all parties, I’m able to demonstrate the overall need to implement changes that will assist all and not penalise or overburden. I am a team player, but will equally work in isolation. I am a strong advocate of change resulting in success for the overall business. I am not a political animal that craves the limelight but I enjoy being recognised for doing a good job.

I will be looking to be the ambassador for the overall success of the project and carry the support and the strategic overview of

how success will look for the organisation. This overview should be understood by all that are involved. I enjoy being the key individual into associations and support organisations for the benefit of the overall company.

I fully recognise that all parts of the organisation are vital to the success of the business and its future. No individual part is overall responsible for the success and hence I am best situated into a role that allows me to fully deliver the best possible result from today’s limited resources. One of my many priority objectives is the necessity to recognise opportunity, to improve all parts of the business and ensure that the process to improve is bought into by all concerned.

I am willing to take on major stakeholder responsibility and am more than capable of managing key relationships across all departments. I have great across the board business appreciation and when things are wrong I will have no problem rolling my sleeves up and establishing what the problems are by talking to all department heads, and external parties. I have the ability to identify blockers throughout the business and propose solutions that are designed by the involved parties to improve overall performance. I am a capable presenter and will happily present key project analysis, data and broader strategic background to any party both internal and external.

I have proven successes in establishing new working relationships with partners and other organisations to enhance the business opportunity for the organisation. The purpose of my aim is not to point the finger but to identify, qualify and clarify the blockers and work to a conclusion to resolve and get every participant to sign up to the issue and subsequent solution

Page 6: SIMON OSBORNE FINAL CB

agreed. I am a patient and fair manager, spending time with individuals who are not as experienced as me. I believe I am an excellent mentor and providing the apprentice in question is able to take points on board and articulate effective response,I will stand up for my staff. I effect clarity and easy to understand instruction. I will become incredibly visual with stupidity and know when complete hogwash is being churned out for pointless chitchat. I am by no means a yes man even if it has resulted in me being the only one who disagreed with a negative plan.

I do have all round experience of working with areas of the corporate world dealing with every avenue; strategy, purchasing & procurement, sales & marketing, business development, research & development, administration, project & programme management. I have worked on diverse projects where engagement in many facets has been absolutely key to the successful delivery.

I have dealt with Department Heads to Executive Management level, these include:

MOD and Military Insurance Distribution Removals & Storage Retail Fine Art Shipping Unigroup Relocations Warehousing Logistics

Customer Service Business Development both UK and Worldwide Marketing VCT engagement Financial Planning

I have led virtual teams for company-wide strategic change initiatives of up to 100 people/partner engagement by way of managed services and collaboration with external clientele. I wish to continue on this path in a senior management capacity and with my cross fertilisation skill sets I bring some of the strongest foundations that any business will be able to build from.

Northern roots and heritage, where there is an engrained attitude

that nothing is achieved without working incredibly hard no matter

I have travelled globally including Europe and the Americas.

Page 12: SIMON OSBORNE FINAL CB

MOTIVATORS

I am a strong, principled and ethical person who often places the interest of others including the company, above my own, provided that in return I have the opportunity to develop myself.

I love to absorb and analyse complexity and envisage endless possibilities, particularly when I can get on with things within the general framework of the organisation.

I am a person who likes challenges and embraces change and uncertainty.

I like being surrounded by people who can intellectually challenge and support me in an environment that encourages open and honest discussion.

I like driving opportunity out of adversity. I relish the chance to learn, whether that be skills, knowledge

or processes. I look forward, rather than backward. I like being in a leadership position and having the ability to

influence and make positive change. I like having the opportunity to progress my career and thus as

a person. I like being valued, although not necessarily always in

monetary terms. I like being part of a team or network of people who get along; I like being in a position where I can explore opportunities,

within certain boundaries, without having the need for continued approval.

DEMOTIVATORS

I detest late, sloppy or incomplete work and corporate cultures where half-done work is applauded and are anathema to a forward way of thinking. I also have a dislike for people, who are ‘wet’, ‘woolly’ or ‘slippery’ as people gain my respect on the basis of their personality and competence.

Slow, backward thinking, narrow-minded and stifled people or corporate cultures.

Political games for the sake of playing them or for cheap victories.

People who place “me” over “us” or the department over the company.

Every day being the same. Tedious or repetitive tasks. People or corporate cultures that dislike change and fight it. Blinkered and opinionated people, especially if reason and

logic opposes them. I despise businesses where “lions are led by donkeys” “Jelly fish management” where the hierarchy lack strength and

backbone. Command-and-control type organisations that stifle creativity,

individual thinking and innovation. As I tend to be critical about myself and rather demanding of

myself, talking in positive terms about me does not come naturally. Nevertheless, after some soul-searching I have come to the conclusion that I possess a certain set of traits and strengths that have been beneficial in both my professional and personal lives.

Page 13: SIMON OSBORNE FINAL CB

SKILLS My skills cover a wide spectrum, ranging from ‘soft’ skills such as vision definition, inspiring people or opportunity creation to ‘hard’ skills such as programme management, research and solution delivery. At the flick of a switch I can change between these skills, thereby being able to confidently face any situation. Great judgement and intuitive understanding of complex issues.

Page 14: SIMON OSBORNE FINAL CB

Excellent relationship builder with all levels and functions, internally, at client site, with future clients and direct stakeholders.

Can analyse, present, convince and debate. Makes people want to work and believe they ‘can’. Takes people forward, people want to follow and people want

to learn from. I am an innovator who can create strategy, solutions and

structure from white space. I am an individual that will be 100% committed to the task and

business vision. I never give up half way, even if it’s a round of golf being played

in a river.

PERSONALITY

I have a personality that can be described as likeable, yet professional. My relaxed and jovial approach on occasions can sometimes be misread as not been focused but this is my way of reliving tensions. I am someone who understands process and technology intuitively but I also possess an impressive array of social skills to engage with people at all levels of an organisation.

Social, communicative and participative in forming and

executing actions.

Strong process person but flexible on detail within process bounds.

Needs a balance between team working and private time.

Self judgemental (good and bad).

Good sense of humour.

Cannot leave things unfinished, but will recognise if something simply not working. I know when to change tact.

A ‘fixer’ by nature and someone who cannot not take control

Page 15: SIMON OSBORNE FINAL CB

PASSIONS I have a clear passion for collaborative management that drives the organisation forward, whilst acting in the best interests of those around me, including larger entities such as society and the world at large. I am a principled person and my personal values will guide my decision-making.

Looking ahead and defining and creating new avenues for future revenue.

Creating and managing complex and dynamic business environments.

Creating empowerment in others and having empowerment to deliver objectives.

Encouraging openness, honesty and integrity in all business dealings.

Winning at all reasonable costs and with the above driving ‘win’ principles.

Page 16: SIMON OSBORNE FINAL CB

RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT

I am a natural networker, although I tend to place more value on the quality of my relationships rather than the quantity of them. I am known for the depth of the relationships that I have with people based on the concept that they should be reinforcing and mutually beneficial. I feel confident in a room of strangers, and although I am not a person who aims to hug the limelight, I am more than comfortable in it and will happily present to a room full of high level executives.

Indeed, I am able to create relationships with people at the highest levels, as well as those that operate on the shop-floor. In fact, I am a firm believer that everyone should be treated equally and with respect and go out of my way to get to know as many people as humanely possible within an organisation in order to get a good perspective of what is happening and where the next opportunity for the organisation will materialise. Although friends and colleagues are not always the same, I am proud of the fact that many of my colleagues have come to see me as a friend on whom they can trust. As a result, many relations have come to see me as a trusted advisor, one in whom they can confide and who will give them impartial, confidential and well-grounded advice. Quite often they describe my personality as professional, yet likeable, and someone who understands technology and its impacts whilst also being able to empathise with people.

I still maintain good relationships, on both a personal and professional level with many individuals. I enjoy social down time functions with my colleagues, whether this be on the golf course or relaxing after work. Within this Career Biography, you will see what some have to say about me. I have maintained positive relationships throughout my career and as evidenced by my testimonials, these people are testament to my ability to build relationships with people at the highest levels and know me the best in a number of guises.

Greatest achievements in life Personal and General achievement I am proud of what I have achieved in life so far and am confident that more is to come. Often I have not chosen the easiest path to walk, which appears to be a recurring theme in my life, but it has shaped me into the person who I am today and I am convinced that it has bettered my character as every time I came out on top. Needless to say, this is also a testament to the people that I have around me and I am truly blessed to have met many wonderful people, mentors and friends who have contributed to these achievements. Marrying my soul mate, best friend and confidante who never tires of us. Having a beautiful daughter, who is starting out on her own and thriving at the prospect... Being a Father that is in touch with current affairs and that my daughter can come to and talk with me about any subject Excelling at everything professionally, personally or academically that has been thrown at me.

Academic record not the most conventional given life proved far more interesting than school. Am a firm believer in the University of life analogy Having experienced the highs and lows of life and always coming out smiling. Persisting with striving to leave a positive legacy to society and the world. Having many of the people I have worked for, with and reporting into me be willing to provide positive testimonials. Never looking back and being at ease with myself.

Page 23: SIMON OSBORNE FINAL CB

Greatest achievements within my career to date Because I possess specific knowledge, traits and characteristics I have always been involved throughout my career in initiatives or projects that were deemed out of the ordinary or particularly difficult to tackle. Part and parcel of most of my roles occupied was the necessity to exhibit strong leadership capability, particularly in the face of adversity. This went beyond just ‘walking the talk’ and also involved leading teams of internal and external stakeholders. STRATEGY Developing, leading and driving interconnected operational improvement initiatives, across entire business arena with whom thus far worked. An all-encompassing challenge, spread over some 20 years which sought to reduce direct costs and spend, increase quality and customer service KPI’s whilst increasing operational capacity and reducing marketing spend. By definition the project involved several interfacial departments which required liaison, collaboration and most importantly buy-in from all stakeholders. Devising a number of strategic initiatives to turn limited engagement with customer portfolio/stakeholders etc into regular communication and realization of business vision. Able

to define process strategy and sell concepts through to the Main Board.

Simplify analytics and overly complicated decisions into 10 words or thereabouts. COMMERCIAL Understanding client needs and wants, being so close to clients “you can see the colour of their underpants”. Engagement and education of development teams to improve sales engagement model and identify opportunities to bring about profitability and repeat business model, thus resulting in increased revenues, higher net value margin and extensive improvement programs associated with hierarchy Executive engagement and buy in. Being the “voice of the customer” internally. Driving margin improving initiatives, through strategic pricing, negotiation, cost remodelling, product quality and add on services. Assisting in the development of strong self-supporting commercial teams.

Page 24: SIMON OSBORNE FINAL CB

MY BELIEFS I am proud of my achievements as I believe that I often have succeeded where others failed before me. I think that my contributions have been considerable especially given that in most instances I provided a clarity and framework for future growth. I have consistently succeeded where others failed, in particular with vision definition, strategy development, organisational design, change management, proposition creation and process architecture. Changing my specialism from MD of removals distribution arena to Senior Relationship Management and Business Development Directorship delivering beyond expectations and exhibiting exponential growth in my career. Demonstrating an impressive array of skills: from vision definition to process improvement, from programme management to change management and from cultural change to organisational design. Establishing an external network of contacts, leading to joint ventures, product launches and market entries, whilst winning projects and creating client relationships where this was deemed to be near impossible.

Seen by many as a visionary and thought leader who is constantly looking for new avenues of growth or opportunity and universally regarded as a direct and non complex communicator.

Page 25: SIMON OSBORNE FINAL CB

Worked across a wide range of client sectors. Gained valuable insight and genuine interest incorporating, MOD public sector global partnerships within global networks and connecting businesses and departments bringing about increased revenue and improved status for all parties. Driving complex business integration and bottom line improvement, M&A, within a challenging cultural environment. Leading business turn around to profitability after others had failed for consecutive years.

Page 26: SIMON OSBORNE FINAL CB
Page 27: SIMON OSBORNE FINAL CB

MY BUSINESS LIFE AND VIEWS With regards to corporate disciplines, I have experience in a wide variety of aspects throughout my career and in my personal exposure to: corporate strategy, strategic change management, project and programme management, client engagements, PR & marketing, research, communication, and so on. I firmly believe that I have now come to a stage of my career where I have figured out what I love doing and am in a position to do so. Looking over the horizon and finding new and innovative avenues of action comes naturally to me, but unlike many individuals that are exceptional strategists, I think I have the rare ability to take a very theoretical and ‘soft and woolly’ concept and translate this into something succinct, pragmatic and easy to understand, thereby allowing people to believe and buy into the concept. Strategy is the natural step following on from a well-defined vision and involves translating a high-level concept into actionable steps and strategic initiatives, bounded by a sensible framework for implementation. Sound programme management is crucial to the actual implementation and the combination of theory and action is of prime interest to me. Nevertheless, the prime reasons for failure in corporate change are often people, culture and structure and identifying the blockers to efficiency or effectiveness and subsequently establishing ways to remedy this is something that I have excelled at throughout my career.

My analytical mind and abilities to think outside of the box have and will allow me to work in a variety of market entry strategies, something that combines my skills of understanding market forces and client drivers and subsequently taking these through a structured process of thinking in order to define what the market opportunity is and how to go about capturing this. In this capacity I am able to target new industries and get to grips with the understanding of new business markets. I have and will continue to identify the market drivers, client needs and how to position a company in order to penetrate these markets. I have always been able to distil this down into the key messages and to target clients where it really mattered to them. In doing so, I have gained deep insights into a plethora of industries, such as Logistics, Military, Removals, VC financials, Business Planning and remodelling. In relation to Information technology, I completely understand the need and added value that technology brings into our world. Whilst in the past, technology was often created to meet certain needs nowadays there is a shift towards technology that positively impacts on people or society at large, something that I have always been a strong proponent of. I may not be an expert within this arena but I am competent and will always translate something complex into a simple and elegant message that gets to the root of the issue thus crucial to delivering the benefits.

Page 28: SIMON OSBORNE FINAL CB

WHERE AM I GOING THE RIGHT OPPORTUNITY FOR SIMON OSBORNE

As the next step in my career it is my desire to work for a company at Board level that is a leader in its chosen field with further ambitious plans that I can grow with as an individual and as a professional. The company may well be in a state of flux, in complete chaos or needs a visionary to create workable processes understood clearly by all. As an indication, outlined below are some of the characteristics that such a role could exhibit and require. Strategic Review: identify the specific levers that drive an organisation’s performance, develop and assess strategic options and help align the management team around a shared strategic intent. Operating Model Design: address cost challenges and position for lean growth by identifying the capabilities that are critical to translating strategy into action and aligning organisation structure, processes and investment plans around these capabilities. Shaping Transformation Programmes: translate strategic intent into a vision, business case and programme structure for large transformation programmes.

Page 29: SIMON OSBORNE FINAL CB

Manage and control strategic “lighthouse” projects to ensure that these are delivered on time and within budget and that perceived benefits are duly captured. Proactively contribute to the development of strategy by identifying key strategic issues, developing recommendations for strategic options and influencing key stakeholders to address them and contribute. Develop operational and longer term business strategy, influencing direction, strategic business and cultural change in consultation with stakeholders to ensure plans are in place. Research and identify M&A opportunities and contribute to the development of M&A strategy, due diligence and post acquisition integration. Contribute to the effective collaboration and development of the strategy team, linking with the business, clients and other stakeholder groups. Provide thought leadership in order to drive the organisation forward. Execute feasibility studies, business cases and product launches/market entry.

MY NEXT POSITION WILL REQUIRE THE FOLLOWING CAPABILITIES THAT I POSSESS Ability to assess complex problems to distil the key strategic insights, conclude insightful and practical solutions and convey these succinctly, clearly and confidently orally and in written form. Ability to influence and persuade clients and stakeholder to gain support for major changes and key decisions. Goal driven - focused on helping the organisation to understand issues and resolve key questions; ability to drive through to an outcome and to gain stakeholder support in circumstances of complexity and ambiguity. Experience of full project lifecycle from concept through to implementation. Outstanding communicator and excellent interpersonal skills with strong presentation and facilitation skills. Intellectual mobility, inquisitiveness and a pragmatic and logical approach to analysis, strategic thinking and problem solving. Ability to process complex information from a variety of sources. Embrace learning and growth in themsel

Page 30: SIMON OSBORNE FINAL CB

Engage key stakeholders around the business. Strong strategy, project and change management experience. Personal drive to deliver results within tight deadlines but without close supervision.

Key for me is that I have the ability to influence and contribute to the growth of an organisation through in-depth involvement at a corporate strategy, business transformation or strategic initiative/project level and that I have the opportunity to grow myself further within this organisation by engaging with like-minded, intelligent and skilled colleagues around me.

Given that I consider myself to be a global citizen I am willing to delve into international exposure and am willing to work globally..

Page 31: SIMON OSBORNE FINAL CB

My next role will involve extensive Relationship Management expertise. I am open to improvement process and relationship engagement both internally and externally bringing about greater business engagement and therefore business turn around. The role will inevitably require a business leader who simplifies process without preconceived ‘can’t do that attitude’. I will be unafraid to question the status quo and will calmly debate matters for the better good of the business. I will completely understand the goal and will aim higher than what is expected of me. I will deliver efficiently and with absolute commitment and complete focus. I’m trusted to deliver and will operate and make decisions based on thoroughly well researched facts. I will require authority, empowerment and clearly defined goals to then go away and deliver without constant deliberation. I will deliver without compromise, but will manage with excellence in all that I do, especially in the areas of Relationship Management and direction. I’m a natural competitor and failure is not an option in any capacity. I will be an executor of CHANGE. I haven’t got time to waste time, because time wasting is a waste of time!

ECONOMICAL CLIMATE AND THE FUTURE

In my view, a recession is a terrible thing to waste. Faced with identical circumstances, some companies rise to the challenge, tapping into the "best" in themselves and achieve what others cannot even imagine, whilst others dwell on the past and lament the good years. Those who recognise and act on the opportunity are the ones that will prevail, especially now that there is once more light at the end of the tunnel.

The first hurdle that many companies face is that, quite simply, they stop being able to see the forest for the trees and start their path downwards on a slippery slope. An evocative, clear and inspiring vision that is believed in by all stakeholders is paramount in stopping this, but this is not a mean feat to achieve. It requires insight, stamina and exceptional relationship and engagement skills, traits that I have demonstrated on numerous occasions throughout my career.

Once the direction has been set and a “true north” for the organisation has been established, I believe that there are various key strategies for a recessionary environment that set the winners apart from the losers: balance sheet flexibility, operating flexibility and new product offerings. This involves leapfrogging the competition by continuing to invest and grow organically, but also inorganically by buying cheaper assets from distressed sellers, whilst focussing on reducing costs without damaging the long-term health of the business and creating diversified and value-added product offerings and a greater geographic presence.

Page 32: SIMON OSBORNE FINAL CB

Nevertheless, the most important thing to keep in mind about tough times is that this too shall pass and will be replaced by better times. What is more, even during a global recession there remain pockets of hope that are less affected by the downturn, something which is absolutely true for Asia Pacific. This is exacerbated by macro-economic and societal trends such as the continuing growth of GDP and accelerating growth in urbanisation of many of its economies. For example, it is predicted that in 20 years time, China's cities will have added 350 million people—more than the entire population of the United States today. This opens up new avenues for growth, even more so for technology-based companies as these countries are less burdened by legacy infrastructures and therefore may be in a position to leapfrog their Western counterparts. Furthermore, as time progresses, these countries will instigate a shift in focus from solely driving GDP growth to an agenda of boosting urban productivity: achieving the same or better economic results with fewer resources. This is not only an opportunity for them but a necessity.

Page 33: SIMON OSBORNE FINAL CB

What this requires, however, is a keen eye for opportunity and the ability to translate often conflicting and confusing client needs into either powerful solutions or clear strategic initiatives, which can subsequently be delivered within pressing financial, time and quality constraints. It also demands a strong understanding of how technology impacts on people, the built environment and society at large and how it can be used to boost efficiency and effectiveness for all involved. Delivering such “grand concepts” for the benefit of both clients and the company is what I am able to explain simply. Indeed, I believe that I can help any business turn disorder into efficiency through a combination of strategic thinking and engagement with stakeholders. I can also turn these strategies into commercially sound programmes and projects to achieve tactical success, thereby creating a way for continuing profitable growth, no matter what demands the external circumstances may place on the organisation.

As technology and information feed on themselves, the pace of change is ever increasing, resulting in more uncertainty, disorientation and challenges for organisations. Indeed, the future will no longer be a continuation of the past, but instead a series of discontinuities driven by technological advances of which I have selected six which will have a dramatic impact on the short to medium term. THE INTERNET OF THINGS With recent technologies maturing, we have now reached a stage that everything can be connected, which could be

beneficial to organisations and societies alike. With the number of people living in urban areas growing from 3 billion today to 5 billion by 2030, urbanisation is a global trend impacting citizens, governments, and industries. This trend will also significantly impact the environment - the 20 most populous cities alone are responsible for 75 percent of the planet's energy consumption. The internet of things encompasses elements such as the often talked about machine-to-machine (M2M) communication, but also much more. Indeed, the internet of things is the precursor to intelligence: once you can sense, you can make intelligent decisions. In fact, some observers say that the internet analogy is misleading because this largely undefined market is bound to surpass everything that we understood about the internet. Indeed, this element of chaos signals that this space is still up for grabs. CLOUD COMPUTING The next decade will see a dramatic centralisation of the world’s computing power as cloud computing delivers new economies of scale now that it has started to gain an unstoppable momentum. Any layer of the computer stack – from computing power to services – can be sourced from the cloud and three generic models have been defined: software-as-a-service (SaaS), platform-as-a-service (PaaS) and infrastructure-as-a-service (Iaas). These will make it much easier for organisations to manage issues of cost, scale and agility and will give rise to a whole new raft of business models.

Page 34: SIMON OSBORNE FINAL CB

MOBILE BROADBAND

Bandwidth usage will grow exponentially globally, driven largely by video consumption but also by P2P and social networking traffic, thereby necessitating a constant upgrading of not only fixed networks, but also mobile networks as the fast uptake of smart devices creates an ever increasing demand for mobile broadband access.

It is predicted that by 2020 most cities in the global north and many in the global south will be blanketed by 4G wireless networks offering 100+ Mbps mobile broadband, thereby creating a whole new user experience. DEVICES AS DOORWAYS

If trends continue, by 2020 most of the world’s population will have access to basic mobile voice communications and more than half will have to a smart phone or an inexpensive tablet computer. These devices will not only drive productivity improvements and changes in work practices, they will also impact on the lifestyles of many people. We are all familiar by now with using public social networks to catch up with friends and family or even to find a job, but would it not be nice if your city had a social network where you could keep abreast of local developments and weigh in on neighbourhood issues? What is more, many of these sophisticated personal devices will become important sources of sensory data about their owners and their urban surroundings, thereby feeding back into the internet of things.

WEBIFICATION New tools and applications are becoming available that make it less expensive, easier, and more effective than ever to coordinate collective action among people that can promote sustainable development and behaviour. Often referred to as Web 2.0, these technologies allow easier knowledge and information sharing, both crucial to the development of connected sustainable cities and competitive organisations. For many organisational entities this will be complemented with a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) that facilitates a fully shared environment that results in higher efficiencies, cost savings and more collaboration. DATA ANALYTICS We created more data in the last year than in the previous 5,000 years and we keep 92% of all the data that we come across even if only a marginal amount we ever consult again. However, this torrent of information is a double-edged sword: we generate massive amount of data but data doesn’t equate to knowledge, so how do we mine this data to take smart decisions? The combination of advanced analytics, ever-increasing storage and computing power can turn the mountains of data generated into intelligence to create insight as a basis for action. Key in this is collecting and managing the right kinds of data, analyzing patterns in it and then optimizing system behaviours based on that analysis – as well as the policies that enable them.

Page 35: SIMON OSBORNE FINAL CB

FORMULA FOR SUCCESS If I had to select ten critical elements of my philosophy in order to amalgamate these into a formula for success, then I would choose the following. Needless to say, these are not exhaustive and, furthermore, it should be understood that there is no magic bullet and that each situation should be appraised on its specifics and approached accordingly. Satisfy. First and foremost, place your customers at the heart of everything that you do and deliver products and services that consistently meet or exceed their expectations. Balance. At all times ensure that congruence exists between the external opportunities for adding value, the effective concentration of internal resources and the culture and values that make the organisation tick. Focus. Remain true to your core business, but relentlessly pursue disruptive technologies to develop new innovative services and products and do not hesitate to cannibalise existing offerings if needed. Simplify. Make your organisation easy to work in and work with, remove organisational barriers and blockers, and leverage best practise where possible.

Page 36: SIMON OSBORNE FINAL CB

Empower. Put your best people closest to the action and give decision-making authority to front-line staff so they can quickly react to changing conditions.

Challenge. Question existing assumptions and act decisively, focussing on the key drivers of value and the key risks across the business.

Inspire. Encourage management to strengthen its connection with people at all levels of the company, lead by example and inspire them to give their best.

Communicate. Develop a strategy around a clear value proposition for the customer and ensure that it is sharply defined, clearly communicated and well understood by all employees, customers, partners and investors.

Share. Promote cooperation and the exchange of information across the whole company and establish systems for the seamless sharing of knowledge.

Execute. Develop and maintain flawless operational execution through sound programme management and constantly strive to eliminate all forms of waste.

Page 37: SIMON OSBORNE FINAL CB
Page 38: SIMON OSBORNE FINAL CB

I possess the rare ability to synchronise the left and right hand sides of my brain and use this to draw complete yet detailed conclusions and work in a variety of manners, dependent on what is most suitable to the task at hand. Whilst I have the power to process information in an analytical, logical, sequential way, concurrently I am able to function by recognising relationships, integrating and synthesising information, and arriving at intuitive insights. I am a builder of the new dawn, working with imagination, insight and boldness. I present a challenge that calls forth the best in people and brings them together around a shared sense of purpose. Indeed, seeing the forest for the trees, disseminating this into easily understandable pieces and creating innovative opportunities on the basis of this insightful understanding is what I live for. I can compete with the most strategic minds, but I also have to live to implement solutions to problems, and bring about change in a positive manner by reviewing the bottom line profitability, new product introduction, company efficiency and excellent relationship management. Communication and inspiration of staff across all levels of the organisation is key in this and as a leader of men, I am keen that they understand the role they can play in achieving the corporate goals. Strategic thinking and planning are vital, but they are sterile without tactical implementation to prove the validity of a concept. It is vital that a complete solution is defined, as well as a clear vision and business plan. This has been demonstrated many times before where I have proved that successful solutions

are built in a modular fashion, achieving intermediate milestones to progress towards the complete solution.

In many instances, I have become a trusted advisor to clients, board members and executive directors, providing valuable, insightful and impartial advice to them. The business solutions that I have implemented were usable in practice, and certain organisations have saved hundreds of thousands in revenue and payback initiatives.

It is this combination of imaginative thinking, strategic formulation and detailed implementation skills that allow me to stand out as a visionary and excellent Relationship Manager.

Page 39: SIMON OSBORNE FINAL CB

YOUR BUSINESS IN A SAFE PAIR OF HANDS I don’t fail. Part of my personality is to deliver more than other people expect of me and it is this self imposed pressure that drives my continuing desire to succeed and deliver. It is probably the reason why I don’t look to run another business of my own despite great success. I need the weight of expectation from the stakeholders I work for (staff, shareholders and clients) and their dependence on my performance for me to be at my best. It is the same in my personal life, whether it be the remodelling of a cherished home, combining innovation and high tech design with character and style, to being the provider for my family and friends. I am naturally inquisitive and have a strong and continuing desire to learn new things and know as much as I can about things which are natural extensions of where I am now. I have followed a logical path throughout my career, all aimed to making me an all round competent business professional and an excellent Relationship Director. I am probably more determined, ambitious and energetic now than at any other time in my working life. Perhaps this is because I feel that I have reached a point where I now have the experience, capabilities and broad enough background to really drive businesses forward and make a personal impact on them and people.

There is a broad enough mix of Strategy, Sales, Operational Management and Resource Management to leave me confident that whatever is thrown at me, I can deliver what is required.

I continue to live in awe of what other people know and do irrespective of job or position. I strongly believe that there are no unimportant jobs in any organisation or business and all must be made to feel that their contribution plays a part in success. I don’t think therefore I would ever become an arrogant person who ‘always knows best’. It is up to others to assess my ability to add value to them but I have great friends from all walks and periods of my working life. Team building for me and getting the right people into the right roles is a core competence.

I have been part of acquiring organisations, I have seen what works and what does not work. I deplore poor management or incorrect cultural imposition without regard for existing and working culture. I am equally vocal to decision makers when things are wrong as I am committed to delivering tough decisions into organisations. I continue to believe that integrity must never be sacrificed no matter how difficult the circumstance.

I am the safe hands for your business and will help ensure the achievement of its objectives.

REFERENCE FOR SIMON OSBORNE Context

I have known Simon for around 10 years. He is now married to

one of my best friends, Vivienne, and it was through his

relationship with Vivienne that we first met. Whilst clearly my

contact with Simon has been in a social setting as opposed to a

work setting, I believe that I am well placed to provide this

reference. I have been a senior manager in the legal profession

for 20 years before becoming a full time Judge in March of this

year. In my time as a senior manager I have appointed many

people and I therefore believe that I understand what qualities and

skills are required of a senior member of staff and indeed of a good

leader. I believe that Simon possesses these qualities and skills

and would be an asset to any company, whether as an executive

or indeed non-executive director.

Character and Skills

When I first met Simon he was Managing Director of a removals

company. He became Group MD a couple of years after first

meeting him. He has always been interested in change

management and is not afraid of change; indeed he embraces it.

When he bought his first company in 2007 I never doubted that it

would be a success. He had this company for five years before

selling it and then working briefly for another removals company.

Throughout these ten years that I have known him he has shown

me what a resilient character he is. No matter what stresses he

may have faced in his work life, he has never let that become

obvious to me or those around me. He embraces change and this

is where his skills I believe would be best put to use.

Simon is an honest, straight-talking, enthusiastic and loyal

person. He is incredibly trust worthy and fun to be around. He

presents as a confident and capable individual and indeed he is.

One immediately feels comfortable in his presence. Despite his

senior roles within various companies he has never appeared

aloof nor had an air of superiority about him. I have noticed from

our first meeting that he was as happy talking to my young

daughter as he was talking to me and my husband (who is a

Head teacher). His communication skills are superb.

I believe that Simon’s leadership qualities stem from the fact that

he is authentic; what you see with Simon is what you get. I

believe that people respond to authentic leaders and he is one of

only a handful of people that I have met in my life who I believe

has the authenticity, drive and confidence to truly inspire a team

and create real energy that is needed to develop and grow a

company.

Summary

I am very happy to recommend Simon to you. Please don’t

hesitate to contact me should you require any further information.

Simon Osborne

I have known Simon Osborne for approximately 12 years, and within that time, I have worked on a number of training and coaching initiatives primarily around sales training and customer services coaching.

I have always found Simon to be incredibly likeable. he is a strong and confident leader, and has always struck me a someone who has great emotional intelligence. Simon regards situations differently to many others and constantly thinks outside of the box. he is very practical, and is a provider of solutions then faced with problem and challenge. he expects straightforward and clear outcomes when dealing with any issues.

What I find refreshing is he is a very compassionate man and is able to steer through difficulty with absolute focus, consistency, and calmness when all others are enduring chaos.

Simon is a charming and sensitive person on the one hand that belies the initial impression of a strong and clearly tall individual that could be regarded as steely and unemotional. Simon has a great personality and possesses great perception. He has fantastic ability to motivate himself and others in so many ways. He is a great advocate of praise and appreciation, and provides clear and well understood instruction that draws people in.

I would not hesitate to work with Simon again and am convinced of his senior management capabilities to resolve major issues.

Really enjoyed working with him and hold him in high regard.

Yours faithfully

Simon Osborne To whom it may concern I have had the pleasure of knowing Simon for almost 10 years as a business colleague and good friend. Simon is someone that is absolutely honest in everything that he does. He is one of the most straightforward and direct individuals that someone could ever work with but will inject humour and fun into the equation where required to lighten a situation. He is forthright in his opinions that will be carefully considered prior to voicing. He is a capable and fearless leader, with the ability to liaise at every level. He is a great planner that does not shy away from problems, and when he sets his mind on something, nothing will deter him from the objective. he applies educated process to all situations and will revisit the business plan constantly to ensure everything is on track to succeed. Simon is incredibly fair, he does not operate with any hidden agenda, and I would most definitely work for him again. the only weakness that Simon has is his golfing abilities, and that comes from someone who is a friend hopefully for many more years. Simon Osborne It is a pleasure to provide a reference for Simon Osborne whom I have known for about 8 years now. I would regard him as a firm friend with whom I have a trusted relationship with. I have seen him succeed in his own business and am able to talk openly with him on any subject. Simon is a charismatic guy that I would regard as constantly being himself, he does not perform for others sake and can always be relied upon to provide complete honesty even if what he has to say is not what you would always want to hear. Simon does not pay lip service to anyone and does not beat around the bush. As a business owner myself I recognise why Simon has been successful in business, he is an individual that is dynamic and knows what he wants as an outcome. there is no arrogance associated with Simon, although some may misinterpret his directness sometimes. Simon is never afraid to challenge the status quo, and will never go along with something that he believes to be wrong or failing, despite the fact that he may be alone in his views. He is unable to tolerate fools stupidity or lies, and will speak up against any of these traits.

He is an avid advocate for change and constant improvement where realistic and practical workable solutions are put into place. He is someone that will help and laugh with an old lady to managing boards with an iron fist. he has worked in my coffee shop as a waiter helping out and has a great ability to talk to anyone and everyone no matter their background. We are involved at a tennis club where Simons competitive nature comes to the forefront and he rarely loses but does so with grace and humour.

I have great admiration for Simon as a man and a friend on whom I can wholeheartedly rely and completely trust without question.

Please do not hesitate to contact me for anything further,

Best wishes

Simon Osborne I am able to provide a reference for Simon Osborne in the capacity as someone that I have known as a good friend for well over 10 years. I met Simon and his wife Vivienne as a neighbour many years ago, and our relationship has grown closer over time. As a police officer for many many years people figure prominently in my work and I can categorically state that Simon Osborne is one of the most honest individuals that I know with unquestionable integrity in all that he does. I can without hesitation state that Simon would have made an outstanding officer in the police force environment as he is astute and has an uncanny way of seeing people for who they truly are. He is someone that is not very demonstrative and gives very little away as to what he is thinking, a trait that is unique and a foundation to great detective work. I have always found Simon to be supportive, kind, and generous. For his height he never gets angry or flustered. He is someone that remains composed and has great coping strategies with any stressful situation. Simon is a finisher in all that he does, he has no need to sing from the rooftops regarding his accomplishments in life, and in many respects is a modest and organically grown individual. He is someone that focuses on success and making a true difference to be better in all that he touches and does.

Simon is someone who needs a challenge, requires constant improvement strategy objectives that he can own and deliver against. He is a fair and patient individual that has a great warmth about him and he cares passionately about his staff (Aylesbury scenario proved).

Simon has a great work life balance and is a genuine and loving husband and father. He is also a treasured and good friend with more fun and good times to be had by all.

I hope this provides an insight into his character and will be more than happy to elaborate further if required,

Kind regards

Simon Osborne I met Simon Osborne approximately 3 and half years ago when working within insurance at Clockwork. I worked with Clockwork prior to Simon joining the business and he had used our competitor for near on 12 years previously. despite this Simon gave a fair chance to prove our capabilities and within this time I witnessed a capable and very honest man take command. Simon is incredibly straightforward and puts things clearly so that everyone understands the agenda. He follows exactly what he says unlike many business leaders who deviate along the way forgetting to communicate change to others. Simon sticks to his guns in all matters, he is a details person but simplifies complexity. He is a great listener and ensures reliable reasoning and rationale is at the core of all thought processes. He will drill into details and check facts. He articulates clearly and efficiently. Simon's key strengths are most definitely Relationship Management from the Board room through to external stakeholders and customers at every level. As a business that worked for Simon we were monitored on a performance basis where Simon expectations were demanding. he was constantly driven in all that he did, and expects nothing less from all of those who work with him and for him or the company he heads up. He is incredibly hands on. Is a competent and unique person that I would love to work with again. He possesses a rare talent for fantastic relationship building across every element of the the business and subsequently people gravitate towards him and endeavour to do their best.

Simon is a calculated risk taker based upon well researched facts and I know he will succeed in anything that he commits to no matter what the problem or challenge.

A highly qualified and competent man.

Yours sincerely

Simon Osborne I provide this reference for Simon Osborne in the capacity of a Boss some 4 and half to 5 years ago and as I believe I am a good judge of character I provide this honest account of what I saw in Simon. I met Simon at Baxters and he struck me as someone that was very enthusiastic, had great capability in listening and executing action without delay. he provided, showed and created great vision and was able to sit down and work in a collaborative fashion to create processes that proved invaluable and worked effectively. Simon has a great analytical mind and has great skill in financials, strategy, customer service, and problem solving. He has a fabulous talent in asking and providing input from many areas to achieve goals and exceed expectations. He is a great team player but will work solely to achieve a result. He will think things through thoroughly investigating all angles and deliberate over consequence taking full responsibility for actions. Simon really uses people's talents and plays their strengths to the greater good of the business. he is open minded in everything that is thrown at him, but will examine all angles before execution. His personality is one of a strong leader, who will tell people how it truly is. He is not a yes person unless he agrees, and does not state things for effect. He is very upfront, honest and straightforward. he never assumes, is clear and concise, he fishes for information and does not operate on assumption. If something needs fixing Simon is the man and never fails to deliver.

Simon is not an advocate for micromanagement tactics, he prefers to direct clearly and expects effective response. he would never ask of others something that he would not be prepared to do himself. He is direct sometimes too direct but this may have changed somewhat as he has got older. He is very visual and you know when he is bored, disbelieving or unhappy, he will also voice these feelings without hesitation. Simon is a quick learner and able to change tact quickly. He is adept at new processes and making operational improvement and manages to steer people effectively through change with minimal ripples. he has an excellent eye for detail and structure and will encourage team work from the warehouse floor to the Executive Management team. I would happily work with Simon again and feel confident that he could work in new areas of business without any concerns. Simon does not fail and has the business capability to turn all negative situations into a positive and long lasting solution. Please come back to me if anything further is required Kind regards John Payne Director

Simon To provide a reference for my brother would be easy for me as not only is Simon my brother but is also my best friend. it is fair to say that we are very close and I look up to him on many levels. he is a very structured and well organised man, that processes everything efficiently. He makes an excellent boss as he is approachable on any subject and will not react for reactions sake. he does not micro manage anyone but will debate intelligently and agree a plan or solution that is both workable and practical in equal measure. he will ensure that everyone understands and will ask " do you understand, and are we all happy to go forward". Simon is the type of person that entrusts people to get on and do, he hates to be constantly on at someone once a plan has been agreed, but is unafraid to revisit matters if things do not move forward positively. Simon is a very clever thinker, and annoyingly is almost always right especially about people. he is a great identifier of people and abilities, he rarely misreads a situation and has a great perception about him often saying and predicting situations well in advance of them happening. Simon is an exceptionally loyal person throughout all of his relationships in life. he can be occasionally withdrawn and work in isolation but is a great contributor to success. he never leaves a trail of mess or anything undone. He will investigate matters thoroughly and present fact not fiction but does it in a way that is silent and not obvious. He will cut out time consuming waffle, and cuts to the chase with exact well understood precision. something that takes an hour to explain Simon will sum up in 5 minutes.

When Simon leaves this earth on his head stone will read the following " I don't have time to waste time" and I believe this sums him up entirely. he is someone who does not waste time. he listens intently and is able to process complex situations with an articulate and clever mind. He is fearless in business, he keeps things relevant and on course, he commits fully and would have made a great spy! he has no need to over elaborate when things can be made and kept simple. Simon is a great researcher and background worker, he will stand at the frontline knowing fully what is going on in the background, and will come armed with plan A, B and C. what you see on the surface with Simon is not always what is going on underneath. he is an excellent strategist with fantastic perception, and matters always manage to fall back in his favour. He can be a crafty fox when required and will generally always make things work out despite mess and chaos. He is a believer in Unity, Loyalty and when he makes a promise he always keeps it. If I asked Simon to keep something secret he would without question Simon is an inspiration. He is great fun, and he is much loved across many avenues of life. His weakness is being the centre of attention and he hates speaking positively about him because he is just himself. He never gives up, is competitive and will see things through to the end even if it is pouring with rain in the middle of a golf course his spirit rises above and he finishes things. This applies in both his work and family life. A much loved brother and husband. Kind regards David Osborne
