The Department of Athletics coordinates nine NCAA Division III varsity intercollegiate teams and one club team. At Simmons, women athletes are the top—and only—priority in the department, and our “Sharks” come first. Simmons belongs to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC), the North Atlantic Conference (NAC), and the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC). Title: Sports Information Graduate Assistant Reports to: Ali Kantor, Director of Athletics/Graduate Assistant Supervisor Naomi Rudov, Sports Information Director/ Graduate Assistant Supervisor Dates of Employment: September 2010 – May, 2011 (start/end dates negotiable) Education Required: Must be pursuing a graduate degree at an accredited college or university. Experience Desired: At least 1 year of experience in the following areas: varsity athlete at the collegiate level, team manager, game manager, sport-specific statistics, student leadership, or comparable work experience. A self-motivator with good writing, research, public speaking and organizational skills is preferred. The Graduate Assistant(s) must have the ability to interact effectively with staff, students and fans from diverse backgrounds and have an understanding of the value of a women’s college experience, and the role varsity athletics plays in the undergraduate experience. Description of Assistantship: The Sports Information Graduate Assistant (GA) is an integral member of the Athletics team. This position requires significant commitment to an assigned set of dates for game coverage. The GA’s responsibilities will usually occur during evening and weekend game coverage, and will include statistics, writing, campus-wide event marketing, and website content management. Job Status Part Time, 10-20 hours/week, non-stipend position. The Graduate Assistant(s) will work on Department of Athletics initiatives including, but not limited, to the following projects: Attend home games and compile game statistics in statcrew software program. Maintain timely communication with staff members from Simmons, GNAC conference, and visiting teams. Write press releases and distribute to various media outlets. Assist in planning/running special events, including Senior Days, Awards Banquet and others as assigned. Other duties as assigned and discussed based on Athletics needs and GA goals/skills. The Department of Athletics coordinates nine NCAA Division III varsity intercollegiate teams and one club team.
