Signing Up for Naver

Step 1- Home Page (http://www.naver.com) Click on this link.

Step 2- Register landing page Click on this link.

Step 3- Terms of Use Agreements Check the checkboxes and click the green button on the bottom.

Step 4- SMS Confirmation of Identity Click this button.



It will open this window (disable your popup blocker if it doesn’t appear).

Type in your mobile (cell) phone number in the second box.

Select your country from the drop down. Your country code should appear in the first box.

Alternatively, you can just type in your country code into the first box.

America is “미국”, should be the first on the list.

Canada is “캐나다”, about ¾ of the way down.

Australia is “오스트레일리아”, about 3/5 of the way down.

Click the button which says “확인”on the left, on the bottom of the popup.

The following popup will open.

You will receive an SMS on your phone. Type the code into the box and click button which says

“확인”on the left. Please be patient, sometimes it takes a little while (up to about 20 minutes). If you

don’t get it, please ensure you typed your phone number correctly, as a person from outside the



country would (minus the country code). For example, when dialling an Australian number from

outside the country one would drop the initial zero.

Enter the number in the box and click “확인”, then click the same button on the next message.

Step 5- User Information



You must use your real name, exactly as printed on your passport. Some features of Naver

(specifically, the social features) require a further identity check, requiring you to send a

picture of your passport ID page.

When you enter your log in name, you need to click on the button next to it (it’s an in-use

check). Make sure you pass the check. If your name is in use, a popup with your name in red

will appear. If it is not, your name is green. You need to click the button on the popup (and

not just close it.)

If a message box with “중복확인을 해주세요” appears, it means you haven’t completed the

username check.

The last selection on the “secret question” drop down (“직접입력”) will let you type a

custom question, which can be in English.

I’m not going to write a list of translated country names here, just type your country into

Google Translate (http://translate.google.com) and you can find out yourself.

Occasionally the CAPTCHA image in the email doesn’t quite work, just click the verify button

again to get another email.

If you see this after you click the green button:

It means that you didn’t enter the email verification code correctly, it’ll take you back to the

user details page with all the fields blanked and you have to start step 5 all over again.

Step 6- Confirm Details You will be brought to a page with your details in a table, just click the green button on the bottom.

Step 7 – Sign Up Complete You will be brought to a new page. Click the green button to go back to the Naver home page. You

also now have a [email protected] email that you can use if you want, click the link on the left

to go to your webmail.

Purchasing Music on Naver

Before you begin You need a credit card that works globally (i.e. Visa or MasterCard). American Express is not

accepted.

Use Internet Explorer. Do not use any IE Tab extensions on Firefox, or any browser other

than Internet Explorer. You will run into trouble.

At some point(s) you will be bombarded with ActiveX control installs, just accept them.

Step 1- Log in (http://music.naver.com)

Step 2- Purchase a music plan

Click on this link.



Select a payment plan or a once off option (click on the green button). If you do not get the

unlimited listening option, you can still preview the first minute of the track without buying it. I

recommend 150 MP3s + unlimited listening online, once off payment. It works out to be about $0.08

USD per track. Go figure.



Step 3- Payment Method

Select this radio button (you can’t use Naver Checkout if you’re not a resident) then click on the tick

button on the bottom.

Tick the checkbox, then click this.



Enter your credit card number. On the bottom two boxes, the first one is month (2 digits) and the

second is year (2 digits). Your CVC is not required. Click the tick button to proceed.

You now have your selected purchase added to your account. Music credits are valid for 1 month

and any left at the end of the period are not rolled over.

Downloading Music 1. Find your artist. You can browse the Top 100 charts, paste their name on the search box, etc.

Check the songs you want, then click on the big “MP3” button.



At this point you will be asked to install the Naver Music Manager (it’s the Mnet one with a different

skin).

Click Install.



After it installs, you’ll get this window. Few things you might want to do here:

Set the bitrate to 320kbps

Set your download location

When you are ready, click the arrow

You’ll see this. It is confirming that you will be using one MP3 credit (in my case). Click this to

confirm.
