Join us on Saturday February 13 for a program on
Slow Scan Television Wersquoll briefly cover the history
of Amateur Slow Scan Television and what improve-
ments have been made over the years At the pre-
sent time there are two types that are being used
on the Amateur bands Analog SSTV and Digital
SSTV Wersquoll demo them both with on-the-air videos
of what you can expect from each
Wersquoll then cover what equipment you need to get on
the air what it might cost you (hams are concerned
about that) and the basics you have to learn to
join in the fun
We look forward to seeing you on Saturday and ex-
changing photos with you on the Ham bands in the
future

Someone even gave up their ldquopride amp joyrdquo for the gift exchange If anyone left with a clunker gift do not lose it as it could be re-gifted at next yearrsquos event Therersquos a rumor on the street that some pink golf balls may again reappear next year It was perhaps fortunate Steve KAOslashOBI had chosen to sit in the front row near the gift table as he kept having to return to the table multiple times to select another gift because the choice gifts he was picking from the table kept getting stolen from him
The number of gifts on the table had dwin-dled considerably by the time Ray KDOslashLPY made his selection While Ray may not have realized the significance tied to that little guy there was a great sigh of relief from several of the long time SARA members as Ray ex-tracted the Flying Ham from the box that had been used to disguise its contents We hope to see that little flying porker at the party next year and hope that in the interim if Ray is not going to have it flying around his ham shack that he should remove the batteries

Hamfests in 2016 Winter is the quiet time for hamfests in and around Minnesota There are only a few events that I read about until spring melts the snow and ice again
Here is the updated list of hamfests in or near Minnesota in the coming months Ive put in minimum data but given you a web link to search for more info The hamfests on the bottom of the list have not been officially scheduled since their last date and will be updated as they draw near
Gas and travel is expensive these days Get on the air and talk it up that you are going to a hamfest and try to get a group to ride along and share the gas expense Youll save money on gas and avoid that long lonely ride in the car

Clean SWEEP
The annual SARA White Elephant Exchange Party (also known as the SWEEP) was a success once again at the monthly meeting on January 9 ldquoI havent seen one of those in yearsrdquo ldquoboy I could use thatrdquo ldquois it all thererdquo ldquowhat is itrdquo were some of the comments that were heard as various gifts were opened While there were some clunkers amongst the gift offering there were some genuine keepers
The SARA tradition of the Flying Ham is almost as well known but history not quite as well documented as the famous WOslashOXB Release to Listen Award I am fairly sure that Greg KOslashGW was the first person to have received the Flying Ham at the Decem-ber 2003 party and believe Mike WAOslashKKE was the person whom originally introduced the Flying Ham to the SARA club 73 Shel NOslashDRX
