IL1: Protect – (Working Draft) SIG Proposed Operational Groups & Membership November 2012 Context Membership of SIG has developed over time. Given changes to organisational structures and roles, it was timely to review this membership and the way that the Group operates to provide a more flexible and productive way of networking and working. SIG Executive A SIG Executive Group will meet on a 6 weekly basis to maintain an overview of work in progress by Task & Finish Groups and undertake planning to deliver events, draft a regular newsletter to the wider SIG community and maintain other communications to promote a thriving intelligence network. SIG Core Group The SIG Core Group is comprised of representatives from each organisation and thematic area with a specific interest in and responsibility for intelligence. The Core Group will be members of the SIG Virtual Network (described above), but additionally face to face meetings will be organised at least every 6 months. The aim of these meetings is to reinforce networking arrangements and relationships, with agendas focussed upon emerging/topical issues, work plan development and information sharing. SIG Task & Finish Groups Work groups will be brought together to deliver a particular programme of work which contributes to the SIG agenda. These groups may draw in expertise from outside of the SIG network for the particular purpose and short life timescale of the Task & Finish Group’s work stream. (The Demographic Change Task & Finish Group is one of the early groups established under these new SIG arrangements which will over time include various shortlife specific work streams). SIG Virtual Network It is important for those with specific interests and responsibility for intelligence to continuously network with each other to share topical information and identify opportunities to collaborate on certain pieces of work. The SIG Portal in Sandwell Trends will provide opportunities for information sharing and discussion in a ‘virtual network’’ style of working. Access to the SIG Portal is restricted to SIG and Policy Network members, who will need to log into Sandwell Trends through their own account (contact Research Sandwell for help in this respect).
