Current Regulations SMC 12.06.230

Adjacent owner/occupant is responsible. Snow/ice removal required within 48 hours

from end of precipitation event. City may abate and assess costs. Municipal court hearing and fines/jail are

allowed in addition to abatement.

Current Enforcement Measures Staff receives citizen requests. An investigation is conducted to determine

that a violation exists. A courtesy letter is sent to the responsible

party. An additional letter is sent if the problem

remains.

Enforcement Issues Most storm events are short lived. Most storm events deposit small amounts

of snow. Widespread non-compliance. Possible misinformation about liability. Enforcement Officers are snow plow

drivers.
