SIASS Newsletter AUTUMN 2020 Welcome back. We hope you all had a nice break! The law on SEN, Disability, Health and Social Care Education, Health and Care plan assessment process Confidential, impartial information, advice and support to young people (aged 16+) Individual casework representation Support in preparing for and attending meetings Help filling in forms, writing letters and reports Support in resolving disagreements, including formal mediation and tribunals Signposting to other local or national sources of advice, information and support, including links to local parent support groups and forums Support with exclusions In spring and summer this year, SIASS had 120 new requests for support, information and advice. This involved SIASS making 2687 casework contacts from March to August. The information, advice and support we provided included: SIASS developments

  • SIASS has been working hard to bringawareness to the service and its remit,including reinforcing the message thatSIASS is an impartial service, committedto early resolution to issues faced byfamilies wherever possible.

    We now have a brand new SIASSwebsite - this will be a valuableresource for parent carers and youngpeople.

    We encourage parents and youngpeople to explore the site forinformation and resources to helpunderstand where they are at in theirjourney and what options are open tothem.

  • The return to school has beenchallenging for all concerned. TheGOV.UK website has very helpfulguidance which helps to set out what thelegal duties of schools and localauthorities will be in relation to childrenand young people with SEND as theyreturn.
