SHOP HERE TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE

The Green Trail - winds from Valby in west till Nørrebro in the north, and runs through Frederiksberg. On this 8-kilometer-route, no mopeds are allowed. You can drive

in your own tempo, and enjoy the city without any reeks from cars.

At Frederiksberg Garden and Søndermarken there are 64 green

hectares for you to romp on. In the garden you can take walks on the small whimsical paths, sit on the

grass and sail on the canals –or visit the Chinese Pavilion.

At Frederiksberg, there are a lot of events throughout the year.

Did you know that Frederiksberg Municipality has a group of recycling-guides that put a lot

of effort into helping us waste sorting and recycling?

You see them at flea markets and on the streets among other places. They share their knowledge on how we minimize wa-ste and how to sort correctly.

The recycling-guides also visit schools and institutions where they also teach this.

Frederiksberg Municipali-ty has partnered up with Copenhagen City Bee As-sociation, which means we rent bee-families that live in the municipality. Some of them live by the Nimbus refugee-housing and others near the soci-al institution Magneten. Urban bees mean lush na-ture with more greens and flowers. It also means that we support a labor market with room for everyone, also people that live on the edge of so-ciety.

E v e r y n e w bee-family requires 1 5 0 h o u r s of work for

each beekeeper. Besides taking care of the bees, the bee-master teaches children and adults, spin-ning, tapping and packing the honey. In the summer of 2016 the bees produced a total sum of 271 kilos of honey. The urban bees live in Frederiksberg Garden and on Solbjerg Cemetery among other places.

The organic hairdresser, Zenz Organic Hair, have had a department in Fre-deriksberg for more than 10 years.

The Capital Region of Denmark thrives at having a green and si-

lent climate with more bicycles, electric cars and a public transportation sy-stem that works.

Did you know that the electric cars can cover more than 90% of the Danes’ road trips?

The University Gardens at Frederiksberg and the Faculty of Nature – and Bioscience were establis-hed in 1858.

From spring till early autumn you can enjoy many beautiful flowers, exotic trees and exciting medicinal-plants. Bülow-svej numbers 17-19. Open

every day all year (except for Christmas and New Year’s Eve) from sunrise till sunset.

We collect about 45% of the water that we use in Frederiksberg, at the Carlsberg fault that runs th-rough the underground. Before it runs through the tap, it is treated at our local treatment plant. The rest of the water comes from wa-ter wells around Zealand.

Above the drinking water

Frederiksberg Municipality will establish climate-ro-ads, where a special type of pavement will make

sure that the water leaks into the underg-round. This will divert great masses of

water and avoid larger damages. Hele-nevej and Ærøvej are some of the first climate-roads in Denmark.

Always a tree in sightYou will be well taken care of if you use the Super-bicy-cle-trail-network. It is a big network of connected bicyc-le-commuting-routes in the Capital region.

nects Amager and Østerbro through Frederiksberg.

Our dietary habits also af-fect the environment. More people are aware that green is better than red, because the conventional producti-on of food has great con-sequences for the environ-ment, our health, animal welfare, and the economy.

The numbers speak for themselves: More than 800 million people starve while more than half of the world’s crops are used to feed farm animals, and the animal nutrition acreage increa-ses (source: Danish Vege-tarian Associ-ation).

Are you a bicycle-commuter? Ready to change old habits? Sense the silence

The Promenade-trail runs parallel to one of the ol-dest streets in Frederiks-berg namely Allégade. Start at Georg Carsten-sens Plads that marks the beginning of the walk.

Walk by Lorry and Ridder-salen that has functioned as the theatre of Jytte Abildstrøm (a Danish ac-tress) since 1970, but the establishment was foun-ded in 1896 by the restau-rateur Lorry Feilberg.

Walk across Frederiks-berg Runddel and th-rough the gates of The Royal Danish Horticul-tural Society’s Garden that received its current location in 1880. Sin-ce then, many different

landscape architects have contributed to the gardens appearance. You can visit the garden every day of the week between sunrise and sunset.

End your stroll in the La-byrinth on Pile Allé that has the shape of the etiquette of a Tuborg bottle. The “walls” are made of beautiful beech hedges.

1 Quality and design last longer. And often fit your body better. Make your clothing long-lasting and check your need on a scale from 1-10 before you make any impulse buys. You can also do a research on the materials that the clothes are made of. Check www.made-by.org.

2 Recycle and swap: Look in the back of your closet, go hunting in your mother or grandmother’s closet, in second-hand stores and at flea markets. There

you can find new favourite things. Or swap and share with your friends - they all face the

same challenge as you.

3 Save money: Hang your clo-thes in fresh air instead of was-hing them and hand wash your favourites. The wind blows out any smell and steam in the clo-thes and saves you around 750 DKK a year.

4 Materials and environment: Get familiar with the environmental labels or look for organic and na-tural materials. Check if the clothes were produced under proper condi-tions and ask where it comes from. Check #whomademyclothes.

5 Repairing and upcycling: Slits, holes, stains, too big, too small. Give yourself a challenge or send the clo-thes to a tailor and transform old into new.

6 Recycle, share, trade or sell the clothes you don’t use so that others can benefit from them.

7 Long-lasting clothes are best for your money and the environment. We discard around 89.000 tons of textiles every year, of which 24.000 tons are thrown in the trash. Without being worn out. Make a difference and avoid (some of) your impulse buys. Invest in good quality and use the clothes longer.

Few people know that the clothing industry is one of the most polluting industries in the world. It is also one of the few industries where children under the age of 14 work 12 hours a day to produce cheap clothes for the Western world. This is why sustainable fashion is important. How to get started:

Frederiksberg Municipa-lity has created special silence-areas, made so that you can get the sense of peace and quiet despite living in a big city.

Enjoy the silence at Sol-bjerg Cemetery which has been converted into a park with different theme gardens. You can

enter the Scent Garden, Bible Garden, Butterfly Garden, Dahlia Garden, and the Water Garden.

The trees have a big influence on the wildli-fe and the biodiversity of the city. The trees function as trails for the birds and insects, so that they easily can travel between the

green parks of the city. The trees are

also beautiful to look at and that is why Frederiks-berg Municipality

aims at having views of trees available for all its residents. Today you need a permit from the town council, to cut down a tree that is older than 25 years.

At least 60 heron couples have settled down in Fre-deriksberg Garden, which makes the garden one of the largest heron co-lonies in Denmark. The heron became protected in 1980 and are merely one of many protected species in the nature around Frederiks-berg. The heron are in-stinctively shy birds, but some, due to the city life, have become so trust-worthy that they can be fed by hand.

When walking through Frederiksberg Garden you price yourself lucky if you meet Erik Andersen. He has a special 18-year-old bond with the Herons in the garden. When he uses

a special calling signal, the herons gather around and wait patiently to feed on the herring fillets that Erik brought. Also when the penguins are fed I the Zoo, particular one heron

knows the fe-eding hours, and patiently waits until it is his turn.

Daily 200 environmental ambassadors monitor the energy – and resour-ce utilities in all public

properties and in-stitutions. The

ambassadors have great

know-ledge of how the many buil-

dings and places can be adjusted and optimized so that they use the least electricity, water, and heat as possible. They also make sure that the waste is sorted correct-ly, and inspire the other public employees to think sustainability into their everyday life.

If the products or ingredients are not certified by a 3. part (Danish or European Eco-label) it is documented in other ways that they are produced without harmful chemicals.

Climate and environment friendly foodThe focus is on plant based food, local ingredients or food waste. Businesses where 100% of the products are foods that would otherwise been discarded. Restaurants that serve 100% plant based food or local ingredients (in a radius of maximum 100 km). Requirement of minimum 25% ecology.

Redesign and recycling A minimum of 60% of the pro-ducts (measured in numbers) in shops with clothes, everyd-ay articles, and furniture are designed with materials that has been used before, or are in surplus: Redesign, upcycling, repairs, recycling, second hand, vintage, retro, trade, and share.

Environment and Climate Businesses that reduce CO2-emission through ope-ration (light, heat, water), transport, waste-sorting, or have procurement that accom-modate energy-purchases. Is the business not certified by a 3. Part (e.g. Ecolabelling Denmark, Green Key, Green Sa-lon) the actions of the given business will be proved by GoGreen through a checklist, that is developed in collabo-ration with “Grønne Erhverv” (Copenhagen Municipality) and the Climate Secretariat in Elsingore Municipality among others.

People in the centerBusinesses that help the vul-nerable in society, e.g. by in-cluding people with a mental/physical handicap and ensure proper working conditions in countries outside Europa as well, or send their profit to charity. Shops that deal with minimum 60% Fairtrade products (measured on part numbers).

Did you know that the ”best before” date is not the same as the “expiry date”? Every year Danes throw out around 700.000 tons of good food.

Green choices and actions don’t happen overnight. But there are plenty of things you can do, if you want to, and here are some ideas to help you get started. Take small steps and remember: Everything counts.

7 habits to get you started

1 Buy from and give to sec-ond hand shops as much as possible – clothes, furniture, toys and everything in be-tween.

2 Beware of your usage of aluminum foil, plastic freez-er bags and cling film. Use glass, stainless steel, cloths, reuseable Bee’s Wrap or bio-plastic instead.

3 Become good at sorting and recycling. Plastic, met-al, glass, paper, electronics. Recycling means less CO2, less energy and saves the processing of raw materials.

4 Buy organic and ecolabe-led products where it makes sense. Look out for the dates in grocery stores and make great eco-bargains.

5 Avoid waste of food. Leftovers should be eaten, not thrown out. Use it next day or put it in the freezer. Get inspired on www.stopspildafmad.dk

6 Switch some of your car rides for bike rides and con-sider making your next car an electric one.

7 Eat more green and less red. Plant-based food is eco-friendly because it elim-inates the need to produce feed, amongst other things. If you eat local ingredients in season the CO2 used for transport is saved.
