School Improvement Partnership
Balwyn North Primary School has been selected as a lead school in the DET
Education State Initiative School Improvement Partnership (SIP). Our focus
school is Launching Place Primary School. Earlier in the year, the leadership
teams from both schools had the opportunity to meet and discuss our shared
goals and educational visions. During this time, we have had some productive
conversations regarding our two school contexts and arrived at a common body
of work. Our collective focus is improving student outcomes, by extending our
ability to facilitate effective teaching and learning conversations. Through this
project, which is fully funded by DET, there have been opportunities for
significant professional learning for staff from both schools. I have been privi-
leged to attend professional development sessions, where staff from both
schools have met to discuss teaching and learning in our respective schools. We
are particularly proud that our school has been recognised to lead this project
aimed at system-wide school improvement.
Professional Learning- Literacy and Maths
Throughout this term, staff have continued their work with educational
consultants, Julie Shepherd and Sue Fine, in the areas of Spelling and Number
and Algebra, respectively. Julie and Sue have worked to support teachers with
curriculum planning, as well as coaching in the classroom. Our school has worked
with Julie and Sue for some time now and as a result, we believe that strong
gains are being made across the school in the areas of literacy and numeracy.
Working Bee
Our Working Bee will be held this Sunday, 3rd June. Keeping a well maintained,
attractive and safe environment for our children is of utmost importance and we
appreciate all of the help that you can provide in this capacity. This generally
includes light gardening activities. This time, in addition to our regular Working
Bee, we will be busily painting and constructing props for our upcoming Senior
School Production of Aladdin Jr. If you would like to be involved, we will be work-
ing from 9-12 noon in the Senior School building. Please email Lisa
at [email protected] if you are available to support this. Even if
you can only drop in for half an hour due to other commitments, we would love
to see you there. As always, we will end with a sausage sizzle to feed our hungry
workers!
Year 3 Phillip Island Camp
Our Year 3 students will leave for the CYC Camp at Phillip Island on Monday. Our teachers have been working hard to
prepare for the camp and we hope that they have some reasonable weather! We are sure that everyone will have a
great time and will return to school on Wednesday at 3:00pm, with many stories to share.
Outdoor Learning
A big thank you to the Gan Family for their creative contribution of the chess pieces to our outdoor chess area. Next
time you are passing by please stop and have a look.
