Primary Years Programme (PYP) - Year 6 Exhibition
In the final year of the Primary Years Programme, our Year 6 students carry out an
extended, in-depth, collaborative inquiry into real life issues or problems, known as the
PYP Exhibition. The central idea for this Exhibition was ‘Systems deny or promote equality’
and students have worked on a wide range of issues including human rights, animal rights
and gender equality.
Small groups of students were assigned a member of staff from the school to act as a
mentor. This week, our students from Foundation to Year 5 have had the opportunity to
visit the Exhibition, with the wider school community invited to a special evening on
Tuesday night. The Exhibition was an outstanding success and showcased the powerful
learning that has taken place at Balwyn North Primary School.
Students talked with passion about their chosen issue, with parents engaging with the
children to discuss their findings. Parent feedback from the evening was very positive,
noting that our students were extremely knowledgeable about their chosen issue.
The presentations also highlighted the significant development in critical thinking, problem
solving, and communication skills required for students to creatively present their chosen
issue in this manner. The Exhibition has certainly given our school something to be
extremely proud of and we thank our Year 6 students for their commitment to their
learning. Thank you also to Nicole McLean, our Year 6 Team (Rebekah Skipper,
Debra Murray and Matt Manuell), as well as staff who mentored our students and worked
so tirelessly to make the Exhibition a huge success.
