OUR BAR MITZVAH Daniel Schutzer My name is Daniel Schutzer and I will be called to the Torah as a bar mitzvah on February 8. I am a seventh grader
at Blind Brook Middle School. I am the son of Wendy and Jamie Schutzer and I have two older brothers, Jeremy and Zachary. I enjoy playing basketball and soccer. My Torah portion is Y itro from the Book of Exodus. In this
portion, Moses’ father-in-law, Jethro, teaches him an important lesson about being a good leader where it is necessary to seek out trustworthy people and delegate responsibilities to them. For my mitzvah project, I became
involved with the organization Feeding Westchester, whose mission is to end hunger in Westchester County. In September, I participated in the Miles for Meals 5K walk with my family. Then in November, I donated food to a food drive which supported Feeding Westchester. Also, in January I had the privilege to tour the Feeding
Westchester facility in Elmsford with the Executive Director. I learned a lot about the hunger issues facing many Westchester County residents. I plan to continue to donate my time and money to this great organization.
Every other month, CSR's Book Club facilitates
interesting discussions as we explore the layers of a
novel while connecting them to relevant and
relatable Jewish texts.

Using the humane, ethically responsible, spiritually
sensitive and inspiring Social Justice Commentary of
Pirke Avot, written by Rabbi Shmuly Yanklowitz, we
will explore how we might become better people
even as we repair a broken world. As Ruth
Messenger writes about it, “The author makes it clear
that we must care about and pay keen attention,
first, to knowing ourselves and, then, to developing
our relationships with others and with God, because
these are essential to our being able to make a
difference in the world.”
