INSIDE THIS ISSUE:

Brother Knights, Catholic Gentlemen - Tibi Necesitas Es (You are needed)

I begin this message with a note of sorrow. We lost Brother Bill Schultz to cancer this

month. Bill was every bit the third leg to the stool. Without Bill and members like Bill

our Council would find it difficult to stand. I look around and see we are blessed to have many third legs. As Bill would expect me to do, I will challenge each of you to be

that third leg, or the first or second. But consider what we would be without the sup-

port we receive from each other; without each other we will fall. So in Bills name, rise

to the occasion and step up, make your mark on our Christian community and support

one another, raise your neighbor up, don’t tear him down. Do as Bill would do.

The Intellectual Disability (ID) Campaign is going strong at Good Shepherd. To date

our overall collections equal $1748.74. This consists of $1533.74 in donations and

$215.00 in direct sales of available tootsie rolls. We will continue with our Tailgate Par-

ties collecting donations at the door and our ID drive at St Josephs on the weekend of

10-11 Nov. Continue to do good work and support other councils in their drive to im-

prove the lives of those with intellectual disabilities.

We will be taking to assisting in an Eagle Scout project this month. I would hope that

some of you would find this type of support—up you alley. Working to build the char-

acter of our young men is a great opportunity to show the community who we are and

why we exist. Join us 17 Nov in the Good Shepherd Kitchen 8am - noon.

Tailgate Party - Special thanks to our party planners for coming up with the Football tailgate parties. Who would not want to eat food, drink a drink and watch football.

You all will have another opportunity Saturday 3 Nov, LSU vs. Alabama 7pm. $10 cov-

er charge for each family with all funds going to the ID Campaign. Special guest visits

will happens so don’t miss it. It’s a bring your own food tailgate, we will leave the grill

on for you.

Don’t forget the Council Christmas party 2 Dec from 2 –5PM. Located in the all pur-pose room, we will have a potluck smorgasbord of goodness. All family members are

invited to attend; especially if they bring something! Heard Santa is stopping by so

plan accordingly.

Lastly I say loud and clear - Get you and your loved ones out of the bed on Tuesday 6

November and VOTE. Make your wishes known and may the best man/woman win!

Prayer by Pope Benedict XVI

Lord Jesus Christ, eternal High Priest, you offered yourself to the Father on the altar of the cross and through the outpouring of the Holy Spirit gave your priestly people a share in your redeeming sacrifice.

Hear our prayer for the sanctification of our priests. Grant that all who are ordained to the ministerial priesthood may be ever more conformed to you, the Divine Master.

May they preach the Gospel with pure heart and clear conscience.

Let them be shepherds according to your own heart, single-minded in service to you and to the Church, and shining examples of a holy, simple, and joyful life.

Through the prayers of the Blessed Virgin Mary, your Mother and ours, draw all priests and the flocks en-trusted to their care to the fullness of eternal life where you live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

Amen.

It takes a Village

To build a really good looking wheel chair ramp

Building a wheel chair ramp can be hard work, even for the smallest of God’s flock. The Knights assembled a

ramp for Monsignor Luminais, living in Alabama, whom is also a Knight of Columbus. It was both a joy and a

blessing. We all thank Rudy for his leadership, planning , and tenacity to get it done ‘on time and on budget’

This event is a BYOM (Bring your own meat), and BYOB (Bring your own beverage) excluding soft drinks. A grill will be provided for cooking. Feel free to bring a shareable side dish (chips, salads …). We will also collect a $10 donation per fami-ly for the Intellectual Disabilities Campaign. Come by and enjoy the game and fellowship.

Business Meeting Raffle

At the end of the next Business Meeting on November 5th, we will conduct the meeting raffle. The

prizes this time are a knit cap and ice scraper. With the anticipation of cooler weather, it’s just good

to be prepared. Also, each participant will receive a 3” foil decal of the Emblem of the Order.

Dust off the cobwebs of our Faith

Our Catholic faith is central to the Knights of Columbus. Let us all remember what we learned about our faith from our fami-lies, religious education and RCIA classes, schools and churches as we grew up - the fundamentals our faith. With Advent coming up starting December 1st, let us remember the Precepts of the Church, and prepare ourselves during this time to receive God’s Grace.

Grace

Two kinds of grace:

Sanctifying grace makes us holy and pleasing to God.

Actual grace helps us to do good and avoid evil.

Precepts of the Church

To attend Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation. To contribute to the support of the Church.

To fast and abstain from meat on appointed days. To observe the laws of the Church concerning marriage.

To confess one’s sins at least once a year. To join in the missionary spirit and apostolate of the Church.

To receive Holy Eucharist during Easter time.

FAMILY

Family of the Month October

The Knights of Columbus, October 2018 Family of the Month, is the Brian, Kelly, Aidan, and Brady Mo-ran family. An Army Officer taking opportunity by the horns, DGK Moran stepped up in October taking the load of the work as the Grand Knight fled the country. Brian was instrumental in the continued smooth sailing of the council dealing with all sched-uled activities and events including the Knights Breakfast, Tootsie Roll Drive, Officer’s Meeting and Tailgate Party. A born leader, Brian ensured the

Council didn’t miss a beat during one of the busiest months of the year. Assisting Brian and keeping the family grounded Kelly saw to it that the schedule was kept and Aidan and Brady were where they were supposed to be when they were supposed to be there to include collecting donations for the Intel-lectual Disabilities campaign. A strong family sup-ported by their faith, the Moran Family is our Oct 2018 Family of the Month.

Knight of the Month October

The Knights of Columbus, Council 11672, October 2018 Knight of the Month, Mike Rose. Past Grand Knight, Past Faithful Navigator, Mike Rose has shifted to support the patriotic arm of the Knights as an ambassador for all the good the Knights do. Mike travels the country speaking to Soldiers and civilians about sacrifice. Only a year since receiving the Medal of Honor, Mike has set his sights and schedule to support those unable to support themselves. He is in a unique position to help those that can’t help themselves and following in the steps of his predecessors, Mike makes thing happen for all around him. We appreci-ate when he is in our midst and always look forward to his return to the council. Mike is a hero and a Knight, and who says you can’t be both. Our Knight of the Month – Mike Rose for October 2018.

reaching Honorary Life Membership and thanking him for his

years of service on the front lines of Charity, Unity, and Fraternity.

Bill Schultz Received his Honorary Life Membership after 29 years of giving and paying it forward.

It was not hard to decide to reprint these photos of Bill from the September Council meeting where Bill received an Honorary Life

Certificate and membership Card. Bill was a strong component of the Alabama Knights of Columbus and a devout supporter of

our Catholic Church. If you want to honor Bills legacy, step up and support the Knights, the missions we address and be a mem-

ber of an exemplification team. The outward signs are what Bill was best at. Bill, we will always miss you. You sacrificed so

much for us. Bill died Saturday 27 Oct 2018 after a long fight with cancer. Services scheduled for 6 / 7 Nov 2018.

COMMUNITY

Organize Councils to Help with Distribution

Brother Knights,

In the aftermath of Hurricane Michael, I have had people

asking me what we Brother knights can do to help. My

initial response is always to donate to Catholic Relief Ser-

vices and to the Knights of Columbus Charity appeals.

Now we are getting word that there are opportunities for

we Brother Knights to help distribute supplies to those

who need it.

There is great need in Northwest Florida for aid and assis-

tance. We have been asked by the Diocese of Pensacola-

Tallahassee to assist in a specific way by providing man-

power to help receive and redistribute goods that are

being trucked to the area. Currently, the volunteers on-

hand cannot keep up with the massive demand, and so

aid is being delayed. If you can help, or to learn more

about what is being requested of us, please vis-

it: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60b0d4da5aa28a

Alabama State Council

Dear Archdiocese for the Military Services (AMS) USA, Faithful,

On All Souls’ Day we remember all

those who have passed away and pray

for the repose of their souls. The pain of

losing a loved one is always difficult;

however, we never cease to find com-

fort in knowing that death is not the

end, but only the beginning of ever-

lasting life. Similarly, we find comfort in

remembering the memories we shared

during their lifetime and the many ways they touched our hearts.

.

Saint John Vianney reminds us that “The eyes of the world see no fur-

ther than this life, but the eyes of the Christian see deep into eterni-

ty.” With this in mind, I ask you to use the link below to submit an

intention that may be in your heart or the name of whom you’d like to

have remembered at the altar. Also, you can always vis-

it www.milarch.org/intentions and submit all intentions you wish to

have remembered in prayer.

ALL ARE WELLCOME

Mr. Weist Good Evening, this is Jake McFetridge on our Family email. You will remember that I briefly discussed with you my Boy Scout Eagle Project along with Knight Involvement in this project. I have received all approvals needed to begin this project. I am scheduled with the Church to begin this project on Satur-day, 17 Nov 2018 at 0800. The basic project consists of moving refrigerators (they are on wheels) and movable tables to the parish hall, degreasing the walls, painting doors and trim along with the window’s trim, and then painting the ceiling. Please provide if any Knights are available for any part of this project. I plan on about 7 scouts attending on the first scheduled weekend and am in need of about 3 adults to handle some of the painting - the more the merrier. Lunch will be provided. My goal for this weekend is to complete everything except the painting of the ceiling. Work will be from 0800 to 1400 on this first weekend. I do plan on a second weekend to complete the ceiling Kindest Regards. Jake McFetridge, Life Scout, Troop 343 26 Veridian Way SE Huntsville, AL. 35803 256-945-7445

Knights, let us get together and support another fine young man as he strives
