L’EROI una grandezza che misura quante unità di energia da fonti primarie si ottengono a fronte dell’investimento di una unità di energia.

Tanto maggiore è l’EROI tanto maggiore è il rendimento dei processi produttivi energetici e quindi l’energia che realmente risulta disponibile alla società.

Non essere a conoscenza dell’EROI di una fonte energetica non permette di valutarne appieno la sua affidabilità e sostenibilità.

Una civiltà in grado di prosperare anche con un basso EROI,ovvero a bassa intesità energetica, è una civiltà resiliente.
