Ask some-thing of me, God says to Solomon to-day, and I will give it to you. God gives Solo-mon an in-credible gift, the freedom to have ex-

actly what he asks for. And with that freedom, Solomon asks for something that pleases God: He asks for an under-standing heart. Solomon, who knows the ways of God and is faithful to him, is already wise in his own ways. Yet rather than increase his own stature, he seeks to honor God as the source of that wisdom. He gives glory to God by ac-knowledging his reliance upon him.

A similar expression of freedom is ex-hibited by the individuals in today’s Gospel parables. Here, the freedom is found in the desire to experience the kingdom of heaven. There’s a sort of irony present, though. In a certain sense, the person who digs for the

treasure already owned the treasure underneath his feet. Likewise, the mer-chant who buys the pearl of great price already had the wealth with which to purchase it. Both of these parables teach us that we desire the kingdom of heaven because we already know it. We find it in Jesus Christ, who is the way, and we seek more of it by follow-ing him.

The wise youth, in his wisdom, asks God for wisdom. A person uses treas-ure to purchase a different treasure. A pearl merchant sells pearls to buy a pearl. Christ’s parables are clearly not about making good business deals. Je-sus, rather, teaches that the kingdom of heaven is as much an encounter as it is a goal. The faithful experience God’s kingdom in the action of living our lives.

The rich young man asks Jesus, “Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eter-nal life?” “You lack one thing,” Jesus answered. “Go and sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come follow Me.” Sadly, we know the rich young man chose not to follow Jesus at that

time. What we don’t know is if the rich young man changed course later on and experienced conversion. Jesus also said “where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”

And so, the question for each one of us is, where is our treasure? What treasure do we seek and pursue in our lives? Do we seek all that we can in this world; or is our only pursuit eternal life in the presence of God? Our God has given us the freedom to choose. Our God has also given us a multitude of reasons why we should and must choose eter-nal life. We also have the freedom to change.

It takes wisdom to seek wisdom in the same way that it takes pearls to buy a pearl. God is present in all of this. For we who love God, all things, every day, work together for the good, as Saint Paul says. Each moment of our work and leisure, our joys and even in our sorrows, every moment is its own re-ward when we operate with the under-standing of the nearness of the King-dom. Jesus is the way to heaven, and he is here now.

You will be given payment instructions once it is confirmed that you have been accepted for the retreat. For more information, call the Parish Office, 232-4656.

ACTS is a parish-based retreat in which parishioners serve

parishioners. The ACTS Retreat, an acronym for Adoration, Com-munity, Theology and Service, began in the 1980’s in San Anto-nio, Texas. The retreat’s goals are to strengthen our faith and its application in our daily life, to renew ourselves spiritually, to

build strong, lasting friendships, and to grow in our rela-tionship with our Lord, our parish and one another.

The ACTS weekend is presented by lay Catholic women, with support provided by a Spiritual Director/companion or clergy. Parishioners who serve on ACTS retreats strive to provide the opportunity for our parish community to expe-rience, become, and share the Body of Christ. Once parish-ioners attend a St. Pius X Parish ACTS Retreat, they can help serve on the upcoming retreat. Please consider this wonder-ful gift to yourself or someone you love.

Prayer Quilt Fellowship Though we have been quarantined and kept from our nor-mal everyday routines, one of St. Pius X’s ministries has continued to conduct their operations from their own homes. Besides keeping busy with quilting and sewing prayer blankets, the members of this special outreach minis-try have also been busy making face masks for over 200 people in the healthcare community, and for Catholic chari-ties. With the intent of wrapping those who are suffering in prayer, the ministry’s members will continue to work from home to produce prayer blankets for those in need of com-fort. If you know of someone in need, please contact the parish office to request a prayer blanket.

Prayer to Overcome Racism Mary, friend and mother to all, through your Son, God has found a way to unite himself to every human being, called to be one people, sisters and brothers to each other. We ask for your help in calling on your Son, seeking for-giveness for the times when we have failed to love and re-spect one another. We ask for your help in obtaining from your Son the grace we need to overcome the evil of racism and to build a just society. We ask for your help in following your Son, so that preju-dice and animosity will no longer infect our minds or hearts but will be replaced with a love that respects the dignity of each person. Mother of the Church, the Spirit of your Son Jesus warms our hearts: pray for us. Amen.

St. Pius X Women’s Guild Mass in honor of current & Deceased members

Formally established in 1978, the Women’s Guild by-laws designates the 10:30 a.m. Mass on each first Sunday of the month as a Mass in honor of current and deceased Women’s Guild members. Please join them in prayer and liturgy every first Sunday of the month at the 9 a.m. Mass! Open to all women parishioners over the age of 18, the Women’s Guild promotes true Christian charity, the love of God and of our neighbor, and Christian family life. As an active service ministry, the Women’s Guild takes care of the immediate needs of the altar, sanctuary and sacristy; and hosts parish activities. Some of the activities include recep-tions after Sacramental Rites, RCIA, Passover Meal, monthly Coffee & Donuts, and others that arise during the year.

First Prayer to Our Lady O Mary, You shine continuously on our journey as a

sign of salvation and hope. We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick. At the foot of the cross, You partici-

pated in Jesus’ pain with steadfast faith. You, “Salvation of the Roman people,“ know what we need. We are cer-tain that you will provide, so that as you did at Cana of

Galilee, joy and feasting might return after this moment of trial. Help us, Mother of Divine Love, to conform our-selves to the Father’s will and to do what Jesus tells us. He who took our sufferings upon himself and bore our sorrows, to bring us through the cross, to the joy of the Resurrection. Amen. We seek refuge under your protec-tion, O Holy Mother of God; Do not despise our pleas - we, who are put to the test -and deliver us from every

danger, O Glorious and Blessed Virgin.

If you’d like to continue your generosity through your offertory giving, you may do so by using your envelopes, which can be mailed or dropped off in the night Drop Box outside of our office. Or, online through our website at https://stpiusxchurch.org/online-giving.
