+ My dear parishioners and friends: I am glad that so many of you enjoyed my homily from last weekend. As always, I thank you for sharing your feedback. It is helpful to know what you think. I hope by the time you read this that each one of us has reached out to a stranger to have the opportunity to share the joy, love, and peace in our hearts. As I mentioned in my homily, I am grateful for the loving support and the warm hospitality you show to all of us priests here. It truly feels like a family every time we gather to pray with you. Thank you for opening your minds and hearts to us; thank you for opening your homes in such welcoming ways! I want to take this moment to give you an update on the latest news regarding the Daily Mass Chapel. A few weeks ago, I mentioned that we had a slight delay for the ground breaking since Wyckoff Avenue is a county road. Bergen County officials had to get involved, which not only added to the cost of the project due to the county’s request for additional surveys and fees, but also created at least a two-month delay. Thankfully, we did receive their approval, and now we are filing with the state. I know it sounds kind of crazy that such a small construction project has to go through so much bureaucracy, but this is the world we live in. I am confident that as we have obtained permission from the town and the county we will from the state as well. It just means that we can’t start as soon as we would like. Currently, we do not have a timetable for when they will get back to us, but my great hope is that it will be sooner rather than later. The good thing is that we have worked hard to make the most of this down time. During this waiting period, we have put the project out to bid among eight different construction companies. Four of the eight got back with competitive bids. We’ve had meetings with archdiocesan representatives and our architects, and we are now in the process of select-ing the construction company. I would appreciate if you would all continue to pray for us to be able to break ground soon. I wanted to accomplish this while our school children were away so as not to disrupt their recess periods. Sadly, it’s out of my control at the moment. On another note, many of you saw the article last Sunday in the Bergen Record about our film, Trinity’s Triumph. You can imagine how happy I am that the screenplay Kathe Carson and I wrote so many years ago is finally coming to frui-tion. Our director, Michael Wickham, has taken all the footage back to Los Angeles, where he is currently editing it to-gether. We hope to have the trailer in just a few weeks. The minute we have something to share, we will let you know! (Bishop Flesey and I were joking that I should write a book about making the movie. Kathe and I are considering it. The title could be Holywood!) One last update. Several of you heard that I had another flare up of diverticulitis. Those of you who suffer with this con-dition know how painful it is. It happened the first night of my vacation with Father Jerry and Father Pat. I felt very sad to cut short everyone’s vacation, but the pain was too great. Not to worry, if I have to eat applesauce and mashed pota-toes for the rest of my life to avoid surgery, I will! I pray that all of you will get some time away this summer to relax, recharge, and restore. In Christ’s Peace,

P.S. Did you find the little image of Jesus in this bulletin? We thought it would be fun to include this.

R.C.I.A. - Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults:

What did RCIA mean to me? By Jenn Ragucci

“Honestly, RCIA was life changing for me. For months before I joined my family was go-ing through a difficult time. I was in a very dark place and was angry at God. There were days I even doubted His existence. I lacked faith, a faith which I desperately wanted.

My husband is Catholic and my daughters were registered for CCD, so when Jonathan mentioned RCIA, I thought it would be nice for us as a family to be able to worship to-gether. RCIA was definitely out of my comfort zone. I figured I would go once and never again - sorry Father Vincent!

I went to the first meeting and was welcomed by amazing people! I met new friends whom I now can’t imagine not being in my life. I loved going to every meeting. I talked about it so much my husband starting coming too.

After a few weeks, things started changing in my life. I started talking to God more, pray-ing, and slowly started coming out of this dark place I was in. I didn’t cry every night be-cause I was angry and wishing things could be different. I thanked God for my beautiful family and my wonderful life. I was grateful. I was blessed. At every mass I attended, it was like the homily was written just for me. God was speaking to me and I could finally hear him.

Not only has RCIA has given me all this but it was a fun year too! Parties, dinners and fun filled meetings, trips to a breathtaking cathedral, being welcomed into our church community, and receiving sacraments for the first time are moments I will never forget.

I still have my days when I slip a little, as any mother, woman, human being does. But when I feel it overcoming me, I take a deep breath and just ask God for help. He always answers me in one way or another. I truly believe if it wasn’t for Father Vincent and RCIA, I wouldn’t have these answers, this peace.”

Now is a great time to get information and find out more about becoming Catholic or completing your sacraments of initiation through RCIA! Father Vincent looks for-ward to hearing from you if you have questions or are interested at 201-891-1122 ext. 209 or [email protected].

Hosting Our Lady of Fatima Pilgrim Statue: St. Elizabeth's Parish has 5 traveling statues of Our Lady of Fatima. For over 20 years, Our Blessed Mother's statues have been traveling from home to home visiting with our families. Although this ministry began with a sin-gle statue, it has grown to 5 statues. Hosting families have found strength and comfort through Our Lady’s presence. How pleased Our Blessed Mother must be to be welcomed into our homes and to bestow her many blessings upon her children! If you are not currently a host and would like to have an Our Lady of Fatima Pilgrim Statue visit your home in 2020, please contact Kathy Marsico at 201-485-7052 or [email protected]. The 2020 itineraries for Our Blessed Mother statues visitations are currently being devel-oped, so please call as soon as you can to book your week with Our Lady.
