Serving People in our Community
Welcome to Second Presbyterian Church
Visitors
Welcome! We are so glad you are here worshiping with us today! We would love to get to know you and to let you get to know us.
Please fill out the pew pad when it is passed, or scan this code or go to www.spcnewark.org/visitor-welcome to fill out an online info form.
Children
Children are welcome in our midst and are welcome to stay with you through the service. A Nursery is available for newborn to kindergarten-aged children. Our trained staff will care for and teach your children while you attend worship today. Please ask an usher or greeter for directions to the Nursery.
Elementary-aged children are invited to our Sunday School class following the Children’s Message. The Children will be led from the sanctuary by their teacher for the day and can be picked up after service in the Sunday School rooms. An Usher or Greeter can show you the way. Exception: The first Sunday of each month is Family Worship Sunday; all children remain in the sanctuary for the entire service on that day.
Middle and High School students are invited to a Sunday School class that is held on the second Sunday of the month; these students are also asked to join their teacher following the Children’s Message. The class is held either in the Sunday School rooms or in the youth center. An usher or greeter can show you the way. Will begin in September.
Youth Group (6-12th Grade) is held on the first Sunday of each month from 5:00-7:00 pm. The group gathers in the church dining hall. Each meeting consists of dinner, games, and a lesson. All youth are encouraged to attend.
Adults
Prayer Warriors: Join our prayer warriors in the Chapel each Sunday at 9:30 to pray for the needs of our congregation, community, country, and world.
Adult Sunday School Class: Join our Adult Sunday School Class at 11:30 in the Emmaus Room (on the first floor near the back door) for a time of learning and discussion.
Wired Word: This study meets on Wednesdays at 4:00 pm in the Parlor.
Men’s Prayer Breakfast/Study: All men are welcome to join the prayer breakfast at Daisy’s Downtown, Wednesdays at 8:00 am and/or a study group which meets on Saturdays at 8:00 am in the church Parlor.
Hearing Devices: If you are in need of a hearing device to help listen to the service, any Usher would be delighted to assist you with one.
Name Badges: Wearing your nametag is important so that we can welcome one another. If you don’t have name tags, please complete a blue pew card to order yours.

CALL TO WORSHIP The heavens are bursting forth with God’s glory!
God’s mighty acts of power and love are sung by God’s angels! From the darkness of our night, God has brought us salvation! We have not been forgotten! Thanks be to God who, in a little child, has again reminded us of God’s love. Praise be to God who comes to save and lead us. AMEN.
OPENING HYMN Angels, from the Realms of Glory 143
PRAYER OF CONFESSION We come to you this day, gracious Lord, exhausted from all the activities of the season. It seems that we spend so much energy, time, and resources in preparation, and then when it is over, we collapse. We wonder what happened to all the enthusiasm we had. Lord, forgive us for placing our energies in getting and gathering. Give us peace and strength to renew our commitment to you. Remind us again to look around at the many ways in which we can be of service to you by serving others. Help us move forward in our compassion and not collapse in our witness. Heal us, merciful Lord, for we ask this in Jesus’ Name. AMEN.
ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS ANTHEM Out of the East Harry Noble Vinny Schena, Violin PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION God of light, you have revealed your very self to us in your son Jesus Christ, your one Word made flesh, who lived among us, full of grace and truth. Open us to your revelation once again, that in the words of your holy scripture we might know your presence and follow in your light always. AMEN. CHILDREN’S MESSAGE Jo Nelson
