July 6, 2014 at 10:00 a.m.Celebration of Holy Communion

Sacrament of Infant BaptismWelcome! Thank you for joining us today for worship.

This morning we celebrate the Eucharist (the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper, or Holy Communion). We celebrate the Eucharist by intinction (dipping the bread into the cup). We also provide a gluten-free alternative, so that all may freely partake. After receiving

the elements you may come to the railing to receive a blessing from the pastors.

Prayer of Preparation: A Prayer for our Country Almighty God, you have given us this good land as our heritage. Make us always remember your generosity and constantly do your will. Bless our land with industry, sound learning, and an honorable way of life. Save us from violence, discord and confusion; from pride and arrogance, and from every evil way. Make us who come from many nations with many different languages a united people. Defend our liberties and give those whom we have entrusted with authority the spirit of wisdom, that there might be justice in our land. When times are prosperous, let our hearts be thankful; and in troubled times, do not let our trust in you fail. We ask all this through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayers of the People

Lord’s PrayerOur father, who art in heaven, hallowed by thy name, Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors; And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

Youth NewsNext Sunday: Car wash! Come prepared at 8:30 am!

The LessonsToday’s Scripture: Matthew 11: 16-19, 25-30“But to what will I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in the marketplaces and calling to one another, ‘We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we wailed, and you did not mourn.’ For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, ‘He has a demon’; the Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Look, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ Yet wisdom is vindicated by her deeds.”

At that time Jesus said, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and the intelligent and have revealed them to infants; yes, Father, for such was your gracious will. All things have been handed over to me by my Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him. “Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

Next Sunday: Genesis 25: 19-34; Psalm 119: 105-112; Romans 8: 1-11; Matthew 13: 1-9, 18-23. As part of your daily devotions, read the lessons. What image or word catches your attention? How do they settle or challenge you? Keep notes of your observations in a journal.
