Service providers often deploy network probes, protocol analyzers and reporting tools alongside their SBCs to capture and trace service flows passing through SBCs in their networks.

NETWORK VISIBILITY

Integrated session management software is a standard feature of Perimeta SBCs, which eliminates the cost and management headache of using external SIP probes and protocol analyzers. Every session and service flow that Perimeta processes is captured and recorded for analysis and reporting, which provides greater transparency of SIP traffic flows. This gives service providers full visibility into their networks so that they can troubleshoot problems more quickly.

Captured sessions can be viewed and decoded directly on the Perimeta SBC using the command line interface. Alternatively, they can be accessed using a GUI on the Service Assurance Server, with enhanced searching and reporting functions. Perimeta and Service Assurance Server capture and report on the following.

• SIP signaling sessions: SIP message flow details are visible even if sessions are encrypted between Perimeta and the SIP endpoint

• H.248 signaling between a Perimeta Signaling Session Controller (SSC) and Perimeta Media Session Controller (MSC) in a distributed deployment

• VQM statistics captured from RTCP traffic

The ability to access the Service Assurance Server in any standard web browser means that tech savvy network operators can monitor their networks from almost anywhere. Searching for events is simple and fast. This tool allows not only full visibility into the network but full accessibility anytime/anywhere.

ENHANCED SECURITY AND FRAUD INVESTIGATION

The Service Assurance Server helps in the battle for IP and SIP communication security. Spoofing (mimicking another user’s SIP ID), dial-around, and using voicemail and call control platforms to reroute calls overseas: all of these issues are real risks. The Service Assurance Server lets you see a week’s worth of call data so that you can look for suspicious patterns. Additionally, every IP address involved in a call is revealed, so it is easier to find suspicious IP addresses (off network, overseas, or used in multiple suspicious calls).

This can help you to determine if someone is spoofing another user’s SIP ID and racking up thousands of minutes of stolen calls. Armed with this information, you can block the suspicious activity by creating new security policies on Perimeta.

NETWORK PERFORMANCE & HIGH QUALITY CALLS

Before the Service Assurance Server, it was difficult to get information about what was happening inside an SBC. When you combine the Service Assurance Server with Perimeta, you can see detailed SIP flows, for external and internal interfaces, along with the policy and routing decisions being made inside Perimeta. This not only helps with troubleshooting, it allows your engineering staff to make sure the optimum network routing is being used. The Service Assurance Server also provides information about trunking and signaling so that you can determine whether your LCR solution is working, whether your trunks are assigned correctly, and whether your SBCs are located in good positions.
